Story
Meet Mister Mustache – A Distinguished Gentleman with a Big Heart Mister Mustache is a truly special soul—a dapper, long-haired gentleman with a one-of-a-kind look and personality to match. With his striking mustache markings, charming meow, and impressive resilience, he’s sure to steal your heart. This sophisticated tripod has adapted beautifully to life with three legs. Despite his front-left amputation, Mister Mustache navigates his world with confidence and grace. He’s also FIV+, but remains in great health and continues to thrive in his loving foster home. Mister Mustache is a cat who values trust and connection. Once you've earned a place in his heart, expect tender interactions, soft meows of conversation, and gentle nudges asking for chin rubs and ear scratches. He even enjoys having his luxurious fur brushed—turning grooming time into bonding time. He’s also blossoming into a furniture companion, often lounging nearby and occasionally testing the waters of lap life. His communication is crystal clear: when he's had enough pets or play, he might give a gentle warning nip to let you know. For that reason, he’s best suited to an experienced cat guardian who understands feline body language and boundaries. Mister Mustache prefers the quiet life—he’s not looking for feline roommates and would do best as the only cat. A calm dog might be a fit, but what he truly wants is a home where he can feel safe, understood, and adored. His favorite treats? Freeze-dried minnows and duck! His favorite habit? Hiding when nervous—but meowing for permission to rejoin you, tail swishing with curiosity. If you’re ready to open your home to a cat with depth, dignity, and a whole lot of love to give, Mister Mustache is waiting to meet his person. Let him charm you—with one paw, three legs, and an unforgettable heart. Mister Mustache is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting him, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $155 for a single cat or kitten, $195 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

Story
Meet Gus – A Gentle Soul with a Heart Ready to Heal Gus is a calm and quiet sweetheart with the softest spirit. Rescued from a hoarding situation, he’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place—but with patience and kindness, he’s already come such a long way. This chill guy is a pro at lounging in cozy spots, especially by a window where he can peacefully watch the world go by. He loves neck scratches, gentle brushing sessions, and curling up beside you on top of the covers—his way of showing trust and affection. Cat-Loving Companion – He adores other cats and would thrive in a home with a feline friend to help him feel safe. Cuddle Buddy – He may be shy, but when it’s time to rest, Gus is right there snuggling beside you. Quiet Home Preferred – A serene, patient environment will help Gus continue to blossom. Gus doesn’t ask for much—just time, understanding, and a soft place to land. In return, he’ll offer you quiet companionship, gentle affection, and the joy of watching a once-shy cat learn to love and trust again. If you’re looking for a laid-back, loving buddy and have a calm home with a welcoming heart, Gus may be the perfect match. Gus is currently in a foster home If you are interested in meeting him, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Story
Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is one of the most common diseases of cats around the world. Here is more info about FIV How do cats get the feline immunodeficiency virus? The most common route of infection is a deep bite wound from an FIV-positive cat to another cat. It can also be transmitted via blood, in utero and from the milk of an infected mother cat. Many FIV-positive cats and FIV-negative cats live together in the same home for years without spreading the virus to the non-infected cats. FIV is NOT able to infect any other animals or humans - it is a cat-only virus. Can FIV be treated? There are no proven treatments to rid a cat of FIV. Most FIV-positive cats handle the disease well, but it is important to concentrate on treating the secondary illnesses. Can cats with the virus have a good and long life? Yes, FIV-positive cats can live normal lives, both in quality and duration. They just need to be monitored for infections and dental issues. But if they're well cared for, they can be healthy, happy, wonderful pets. Can FIV-negative and FIV-positive cats live together? Yes, as long as the cats get along and do not fight. The risk of an FIV-positive cat spreading the virus to an FIV-negative cat can be minimized by putting both cats in separate rooms until you are confident that they will not fight with each other. If you are interested in adopting me, we strongly encourage you to fill out an adoption app beforehand. ADOPTION APPLICATION .
