Roxy girl is ready to rock your world with her amazingness!! This is a petite girl, who we believe to be a german shepherd mix... Of course with rescue, age and breed are just a guess. But we think she's still a young girl at around 18 months. She may be young, but shes not bringing that crazy puppy energy-- which we love. So, do you want a young girl who is gentle, calm, and ready to be yours? Well Roxy the little old soul is here waiting for you. Roxy is an absolute queen on leash. She is very tolerant too, letting us touch her cute little feets and big ole ears. This is important because it shows us how she will be at future veterinary appointments. And we were right-- shes completely calm at the vet, laying down patiently at her moms feet. Want to see it for yourself? Well click right here to meet her! https://youtu.be/R_4xnPyN_Fw?si=KgBGuLN_gNkPKzb6 She is polite and gentle when meeting new friends, never rushing into it. She is more aloof and prefers to go on to do her own thing, like sniffing around the yard. She is amazing at "going to bed" in her crate. Roxy goes on walks two times a day with her foster mom. She tandem walks well with her foster siblings too! Her favorite toy is her hot pink dinosaur stuffy, she wont destroy it at all! If her foster siblings are playing she wont try to steal either. We believe this girl could fit in with a pack or be perfectly content being your one and only pretty princess. As far as manners go, this girl has plenty. She will not get on the couch unless shes invited, even though she loves it. HEr foster mom says she is "absolute love" and just aims to please. Roxy is super kid friendly, living with a 5 and a 12 year old. She will even let them walk and train her! Go Roxy! Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
Meet River Skye 🌊 a two-year-old rescue mystery (possibly German Shepherd/Lab, possibly a whimsical forest creature) who is equal parts calm, cute, and completely enchanting. First, we must discuss the teefers. River Skye’s adorable little underbite means her tiny teeth are always peeking out, giving her the sweetest, slightly goofy smile that could melt even the coldest heart. Add in her stunning golden eyes and perfectly floppy, mismatched ears, and she’s an absolute showstopper. She’s the kind of dog people stop mid-sentence to admire. At home, River Skye is a total angel baby. Her fosters describe her as calm, easygoing, and wonderfully relaxed. She loves long naps, cozy lounging, and being near her people, she’s not demanding, just happily existing by your side. She’s crate trained, settles beautifully, and is an excellent car rider who sleeps through the entire ride, making her an ideal adventure buddy for errands, road trips, and low-key outings. Watch River’s video here to fall in love! https://youtu.be/WIhvzZZrXL0?si=exWW7-lLnnWY8Onb When it’s time to play, River Skye has a silly side that shines. She loves playing with other dogs and especially enjoys romping with her foster siblings, including her best friend, a big ol’ Great Pyrenees. Her play style is goofy and animated, complete with adorable grumbles and funny little noises that turn playtime into pure entertainment. She’s treat-motivated, enjoys learning, and her foster family is helping her polish her leash skills at her own thoughtful pace. River Skye currently lives with cats in her foster home and has done well. She is respectful and calm with them, though once she’s comfortable she may show a little playful curiosity. Because of this, calm, avoidant, or dog-savvy cats would be the best match for her. She also passed a cat test with another house cat, where they exchanged polite sniffs and then went about their business. To make sure everyone is happy, we’d love to do an in-home or overnight cat trial for any potential feline siblings. River Skye absolutely adores her people. She’s affectionate, loyal, and deeply bonded to her humans. She can be perfectly happy as an only pup soaking up all the love, or she’d enjoy having a dog friend to nap and play with. As a final note, River Skye does appreciate a little extra time to decompress when settling into a new environment. Once things feel calm and predictable, she truly thrives. Because of this, we recommend older, respectful kiddos who understand giving her space and letting her warm up at her own pace. River Skye is calm, loving, hilarious, and impossibly cute. She’s the kind of dog who slides effortlessly into your life, steals your couch, your car seat, and eventually your whole heart — teefers and all. 💛 Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? Story
Take a second to sit back & relax, meet Molly Mae! Molly went on an exciting road trip with her foster brother last year in hopes to find her forever family. Although she hasn’t found them just yet, we know they are out there somewhere! On her trip, Molly traveled over 3,600 miles in a car. Woah!! Not only is she totally interesting and ready to share all of her world traveling stories with you, but she’s most of all looking for love. The first thing you will notice about this girl is how intelligent she is. Molly is also nothing short of an impressive performance dog with her sit, down, and touch skills. She also has amazing recall, and has mastered “heel” and “leave it” when she passes by other dogs on her daily walks. She loves being brushed too. One of our volunteers loves her so much, he comes multiple times a week to sit with her and brush her. She sits perfectly for him for 45 minutes straight, never leaving his side even when new doggies walk by. It melted my heart, and it surely will melt yours too. Molly is a big fan of her daily routine, and she hopes you will help her create a new one in her new home. The girl knows what she likes! Molly also loves a good game of fetch— she will bring the ball back and drop it! Calling all shepherd lovers, because this girls personality will need someone familiar with this breed! Is that you? Meet Molly girl here! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yR7D5PYFxhU&feature=youtu.be Molly has so many good qualities to her. She is great in her crate, and best of all she is quiet in there too! She is calm and relaxed when you take her out. When you want her to go back in she just walks right in! She is very food motivated and loves a good treat (don’t we all!). She even let a 4 year old train her! She sat for him, and waited patiently for him to share some of his yummy cheese stick. Molly is not the jumping around ball of energy type, she is respectful of her surroundings and the people in it! Little tiny kids can be a little overwhelming with all of the bouncing and kid friendly chaos, so we believe Molly would do better with kids 7 years and up. Or children that will be able to understand her boundaries. Family coming over to visit with younger kids should not be a problem for her, this is just something she prefers! Mollys interest in treats would make for a super fun training session! Molly is the perfect example of a dog that is just happy to be with you, no matter where you are. Molly really likes to bond with her people. She is so loyal and loving, when her forever family comes to get her I have no doubt it will be the happiest day of her life! She would be happy to stay home and put around the backyard too! Speaking of homes and yards, this girl needs one! Having a structured area for her to play and mosey around in would be her dream. Molly does not need another dog in the home, but if she were to have one she prefers to be with more submissive, medium energy males that will participate in her similar play style. Molly can be a little rowdy with her best friend sometimes, but it’s all fun and games. Molly would be perfectly content being your one and only too! No kitty cats for this queen, they are just way too fun to chase and bark at. Her ideal family would be those that love some good quality time. We could totally see her hanging out at the backyard barbecue hoping you’ll slip her a little something under the table. When this girl falls for you, she falls hard. If only we could all be so lucky to have a best friend like her. Are you ready to add the perfect loyal companion to your life? Apply for her today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/680a6339fe589ad4230a2f7b Questions? We travel to WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT and Canada (Canadian adopters will need to pick up in Bellingham, WA or Brattleboro, VT for the eastern Canadian border)! Our pups travel in comfort with 24/7 care on our USDA licensed vehicles, including buses and cargo vans. You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience! The adoption fee is $900 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship! We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission! Story
If you like your dogs on the big side, with the potential for even bigger? Fluffy on the outside and soft-souled on the inside, River is here for you! River is the kind of dog who makes everyone stop in their tracks, not because he’s loud or chaotic, but because he’s eye-catching, handsome, and oh-so gentle and welcoming for his size. When he was brought to our main rescue office it was all oooohhhs and ahhhhhs, followed by, “Can we approach and touch?”. The team was so excited and proud to say, YES!! He is as loving, soft, and affectionate as he looks! Take a look at his mellowness in motion, then come back to read more: https://youtu.be/bBnetZgN-WE River is estimated to be about a year old, currently weighs 87 lbs, and may be a German Shepherd/Husky mix—maybe even some Anatolian sprinkled in. As with all rescues, age and breed are our best guesses. Sometimes that’s the best part about rescue, finding all the fun breeds your pup has! What we can guarantee is that he is a lot of loving fluff and incredibly affectionate, though never in a pushy way. He leans into you, rests that giant head near your lap, and soaks up love like a pro. You can even hold his paws and let him “dance” with you—standing up, he’ll likely be as tall as you. It’s like slow dancing with a gentle, oversized stuffed animal. Please don’t mistake “big” for “difficult.” River has that magical gentle-giant quality where the look is powerhouse and the personality is marshmallow. He walks well on leash and is very manageable for such a large dog. Being young, he’ll benefit from continued structure, but his calm, observant, unbothered nature makes him an absolute joy. He brings chill vibes all day. Truly the definition of big dog, easy spirit. River currently lives in a loving foster home with multiple dogs out in the country of Texas and does wonderfully! Even his foster says he’s just an easygoing boy—no trouble, no chaos, just peaceful dog energy. We are just now going to quote some of things his fosters have to say about him, they are seasoned fosters and know a great dog when they meet one. River takes treats sooo gently River snuggles on the couch with our big pack of misfit dogs! Great at sharing! River is completely house trained River is the perfect mix of mellow and playful. Except the playful is more prancing with dogs. On the rare occasion he wants to play with the dogs, he does a prancing “dance” to invite! Great car rider and fantastic on the leash Loves the rope toy and playing tug-o-war with other dogs and us. Goes after the ball! River is great around other dogs and he loves being a pack animal. He doesn’t need a home with other dogs but he clearly does well with them! Some of the different dog temperament and personalities of the dogs he is fostered with include the queen bee- senior pittie female- she has no reservations correcting dogs if they get too rowdy. River is such a sweet gentleman, he makes sure to not react or bother her. She loves River because he is very relaxed and finds his spot on the floor or on the couch. You will find the assertive male dog and boy does love River! River is mindful and respectful of him. River has also accepted corrections from him and too if ever warranted! There are some aloof females and males that he will play with. He gets bouts of the zoomies in the back yard and mostly romps around with the dogs. He likes to be that awkward 3rd, 4th, or even 5th wheel! If you watched his video, then you also saw how incredibly gentle and tolerant he is with his favorite buddy! A 7 month old foster puppy named. Lily. He clearly is so unbothered by her climbing all over him, sharing toys, kissing, nibbling, invading his space while he is trying to relax, messing with his tail, or any of the things puppies like to do.His foster mom says they are like two peas in a pod and that it is almost like he has taken it upon himself to assume the "big brother" or "fun uncle" role. Seeing how gentle he is, even with a puppy, is simply who is to his core. A gentle giant. With cats, he was politely aloof—“Huh. A cat. Okay.” He went on an overnight stay with a cat for further testing and did initially bark at the cat. Once the cat hissed at him, he did not mind her the rest of the time. One thing to note is that his cat is not a very active cat. She does not run or play around. Every cat has different personalities. Please inquire to get further cat testing. River’s long legs would like a nice long yard. He doesn’t need constant exercise or intense stimulation, just love, gentle structure, space to stretch out, and a comfy place to nap. He’s gorgeous, calm, sweet, and big—but somehow still tiptoes through life like he doesn’t want to bother anyone. If your heart is set on a truly huggable best friend who brings peace, steadiness, gentle companionship and who would love having a dog buddy at home; River is ready for the role. Story
Rocky the name can easily give you the vision of tough guy but that is not the case here. This Rocky is bringing more rocky road vibes. A sweet, handsome, family guy who also happens to be smart, playful, and so affectionate. It didn’t take long for all of us to see he is good company!. My favorite thing about Rocky was just how easy it is to see his playful side. From the way he lit up around kids to his love of a tennis ball, he has a contagious sort of happiness. Rocky is estimated to be 1.5 years old, weighs 49 lbs, and we believe he is a Shepherd/kelpie mix but given he is a rescue we cannot guarantee either detail with 100% certainty. We do see signs of his youthful side in his playful approach to life and his perceived breed in both looks and mannerisms. Rocky is so fortunate and is currently in a foster home while he waits for his adoption day. He lives with a variety of dogs, which changes often as his foster welcomes in new dogs. From big to small and all energy levels- Rocky is welcoming and ready to play if they are. If meeting on leash his excitement spills out just a little with a bit of whining and a little bounciness. It can be cute but understandably is not always ideal so he is working on this with his foster. It feels silly to expect him to keep his happiness wrapped up but once that is over he can move on to his favorite part- play. This is a boy that would thrive in a home with at least one playful dog to bounce around with. If he has a playmate he will be so happy and he can read other dogs well so if older, less playful dogs are around, he will respect that. Rocky also loves a tennis ball! Something I personally discovered too late to actually see if he knows fetch, but he has all the makings of it so if he doesn’t, he will with a little encouragement. While he is chasing the ball you will get a great view of his adorably perfect, Dorito shaped triangle ears! I was personally a little obsessed with them. On top of his friendly and affectionate nature, Rocky knows a few basic commands and is treat motivated, meaning he is ready to learn more. He knows, sit, down, and I’m almost positive shake- as well as responds to his name, coming when called. Being in a foster home has allowed him to learn and practice all the best manners and skills a house dog needs. This also gives us a true, front row seat, to his personality. His foster family has nothing but praise for him, sharing how fun he is and how friendly he is meeting new people, from little kids to older folks. They also shared that he is great in the car, able to load up on his own and typically happy to just soak up the sights once you hit the road.. On top of all that, he is both house and crate trained! Hello dream boy! Rocky’s ideal home would be a semi-active one, where hikes and adventures are a regular occurrence. Kids who love to play and want a tag-along pal will love Rocky and he will be in heaven with them. I was spending time with Rocky one afternoon and he could hear kids outside and it was easy to see he really wanted to be out there with them, so we invited them in and my goodness, it was magic! He lit up and everyone had so much fun together. He met two four year olds and an 11 year old. H definitely gravitated to the 11 year old but this may have had something to do with him throwing the ball for him. I do think his love of play would be a perfect fit for kids 7+. A house with a yard would be best given his love of play and budding fetch skills. We have heard him use his voice a little during play and the occasional whine in his crate, apartment life may not be the best fit. With a treat offered he will go right into focused-mode with an automatic sit and his full attention on you. That quality typically translates into a dog who trains with ease. The fact that he knows several commands and is consistent no matter who is asking tells us he is incredibly smart and highly trainable. We have not introduced Rocky to any feline friends, and he does not live with one in his foster home, but if you are interested we can happily arrange a cat-introduction to get a clear read on his compatibility with cats. This boy is easy-company and full of so much loyal, playful love! And even though he is playful he settles easily and contains his energy to play sessions. He is lovey but not overly pushy about it, loyal but not too “velcro,” this boy is just the best of ALL worlds! He is 100% good dog, beautiful and ready for a life of love! If he sounds like your boy, apply today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6843000d691fa20ad70045b5 Questions? Story
This cutie is Rice Krispie Cereal. She is currently 3 months old. We think they may be a German Shepherd mix, but with rescue it’s a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from us, it saves their life as well as the life of another in its place. Watch Rice Krispie's playful personality here: https://youtu.be/WqW3Kxl6uvw?si=J27d65pd7hMvGmWO Rice Krispie is playful, sweet, curious, and cuddly. She loves to play with her siblings and take lots of naps. Eat, sleep, play, repeat- such is puppy life! We pride ourselves in being able to give you good personality and behavioral information to help ensure this baby is the right fit for you. You are also welcome to do a Facetime call to meet your new baby before signing paperwork! Rice Krispie is still very young and will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. A puppy is discovering new things that shape their personalities with each passing day. Implementing routine, structure, setting boundaries, and proper socialization is key from the start. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy starting immediately when arriving at their new home, which will help with potty training, energy management, and the overall development of a well-rounded adult dog. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
