Story
Adult (estimated between 2 and 7 years, exact age unknown) Neutered male Active, affectionate, and sensitive Looking for a home with children over 12 years Has done well with other dogs No known experience with cats Housetrained I'm a smart and loyal boy who can't wait to become your new best friend. I already know sit, paw, and down, I walk well on a leash, and I'm house trained. I'm a total cuddle bug who loves to lay at your feet and soak up all the affection you can give—I'll even give you kisses in return! I'm active and love to play fetch, and I've gotten along well with the other dogs I've met. Because I'm a sensitive guy, I'm looking for a home with older children. If you're looking for a loving and devoted companion, I'm your perfect match! Thanks to a generous sponsor I have a reduced adoption fee! The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.July 25, 2024, 6:10 pm

Story
Marcus is such a sweet, loving, gentle boy. He is only a year or two old. He was found as a stray and was unclaimed at the shelter where we rescued him just before he was going to be euthanized. Someone must have loved him because he trusts people and already knows “sit” and “stay”—and “shake hands”! He came to us from a shelter in Texas, and—not too surprisingly (coming from the deep south)—he has tested positive for heartworms. He seems to be healthy, though, and our vet thinks that he must just have just recently been infected, so she is quite certain no harm has been done. We are starting his treatment and will continue with (and will pay for) his treatment during the summer months, but are hoping to find a foster/adopter in our area (near Madison, Wi.) who would like to take him in during this time with an eye to adopting him once his heartworm treatment is complete. Marcus has been neutered, microchipped, tested (negative) for intestinal parasites, and he is updated on his distemper and rabies shots. So….he just needs a few months more to treat him for his heartworms. In the meantime, we are hoping to find a foster/adopter in the Madison, Wi area who could provide him with the love and attention he needs and deserves, we would be willing to waive his adoption fee. Marcus walks well on a leash and is good with other dogs. He would enjoy a safely fenced yard (no "invisible" fencing) and an adopter who is home much of the time. If you feel you would be a good match for Marcus (and vice versa) please e-mail his foster “mom” at: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell her about yourself—your daily schedule, your other family members and pets, if you have a safely fenced yard, etc. Then, if she feels you and Marcus would be a good match for each other, she will e-mail you an adoption application and once you have filled it out and returned it, a meet-and-greet can be scheduled.

Story
Hello, my name is Ozone and I find myself in a circumstance where I need a new home. I lived with a person my whole life but unfortunately their health took a turn for the worse and they could no longer take care of me so I came to WCHS. Since I am an optimistic lad, I am making the best of my situation and spending my time romping in playgroups, taking wonderful walks with volunteers and keeping my brain busy with enrichment. I am a strong boy who is a bit strong-willed; some have even called me stubborn. In my defense sometimes I lock onto a fabulous smell and feel I must insist upon pulling towards it. I suppose one of the things I should work on is being a little more polite when on a leash; I tend to pull towards things of interest. I have a wanderlust spirit and must confess that if I am off-leash I have been known to run off in search of adventure. I do thoroughly enjoy going on walks because I have a great nose and there are so many wonderful odors to explore. I like to run and have sort of a digital method of walking; zero or one. I stop to soak in a smell, then run off to the next scent where I stop again and then repeat the process. In my previous home I lived with children from newborn to teenagers; I have lots of energy so running with kids was a good way to burn some energy. I used to play with some neighborhood dogs which also kept me active and was able to get exercise running around in my fenced yard playing fetch. In my previous home I was comfortable in a crate. It was my own private little den with comfy cozy blankets and fun toys where I could relax when I was alone in the house or snooze at bedtime. I am a smart boy and already know the cues for ‘sit', ‘down' and ‘shake/paw'; with your patient and positive training I am sure I could learn many more human words. I understand the concept of house-training and would ask to go outside by whining and pacing. When I get to my new home it would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities for potty breaks until we learn each other's signals and routines. I am a firm believer in daily exercise, both physical and mental, and would love to play brain teaser games or using a foraging mat at mealtime. I am friendly and affectionate; I would love to have long snuggle sessions in the evenings after a day filled with fun. I am a cheerful pup who is sure to bring sunshine and laughter to your home; I know we can have a magnificent life together. I hope you come by to make my acquaintance because I think it will be love at first sight.#2

Story
Adira was found running at large in Memphis and was subsequently brought to a veterinary clinic by a kind MPD Officer. She was severely emaciated and scared. “Addie” as she has come to be known, quickly made herself at home at her Foster’s farm while she gained weight and recuperated. She is now around 65 pounds and estimated to be 2-3 years old. Addie loves to play ball, go on long walks through the woods, run, ride in cars, and snuggle. She is wonderful for baths, tolerates nail trims, and more than anything, just wants to be anywhere her human is. Although she is high energy when the opportunity presents itself, Addie would make a suitable apartment dog for someone who works from home. Her foster family works from home and she spends the entire workday snuggled on her bed beside her foster mom while she works. Addie is kennel trained, but she is a large dog and would not be suited for kenneling all day while family or individual works. Addie will do best with an active lifestyle and plenty of time for play. She does need to be the only dog as she is an alpha female and does not share her humans or her territory. Addie is deeply loyal and very protective. She is friendly to new people if her person is friendly to them. Once adopted she will travel via private transport Rescue Vet (transport cost is $160.00) to a location closest to you. Story
THIS GUY! Wow! He has come a LONG away since he's been in our care. He was scheduled for euthanasia simply because they were out of room. He and his brother Happy. So a Good Samaritan pulled them both and spared them from certain death. They have been amazing, becoming very social because they have been attending doggy daycare everyday and receiving hands in one on one professional training! Captain is approx 7-8 months old. He's shy at first around new things but warms up quickly. He is kennel trained and house trained and it goes without saying he's dog friendly since he attends doggy daycare! He's super easy to get along with just needs a patient family because he is a bit shy at first around new things. He's with Kip and Michele in their home in Memphis, Tn. Once an application has been submitted and approved Kip, who has been working with Captain one on one for several months, will speak to you and tell you all about him. Transport cost is an additional $185. If you would like to make Captain a part of your family Please follow the link below to our adoption application . https://forms.gle/APKvbgFJcaRvgKgk9
