Story
·Intake Reason: Surrendered due to having too many animals·Weight: 64 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Lived with 5 and did well ·Dogs: Lived with 3 and did well; Played rough ·Kids: Lived with a 1 year old and did well ·Personality: Initially shy but warms up quickly; PlayfulHello, my name is Athena. The same as the goddess of wisdom in Greek mythology, which is fitting because I am a shepherd mix and am very bright. My brother and I lived with a family almost my whole life and there were all sorts of other dogs and even kitties there; a very active place. Apparently, it was a bit too active because my people felt there were too many fur-kids to look after. So, I came to WCHS to find a new family who would have more time for me. I am a young and active gal who is amazingly sweet but I do need more training and would benefit from experiencing new things and places. I must confess that I am a tad discombobulated since coming to the shelter because everything is so strange to me. I am a little bashful when I meet someone new, so I appreciate when someone gives me some time to relax and get comfortable. I am a fun-loving and playful girl and my true colors come out once I am more at ease. I do enjoy car rides because they often lead to going someplace fun; I had the opportunity to take a field trip since being at WCHS where I got to walk around fun trails and smells all sorts of interesting things. Although I am comfortable in a crate, in my previous home I was trustworthy enough to roam freely when I was alone. I have been known to chew on a shoe or two, so it would be wise to keep those fun ‘toys' out of my reach. They say I am about 75% house-trained and have been doing very well on a regular schedule. It would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities to get outside to use the facilities until we are familiar with each other's signals and routines. In my last home I was able to sleep with my person on their bed at night and that was fabulous; I am quite the snuggle bug when I bond to a human. I know the cue for ‘sit' and do enjoy learning, so it would be lovely to take some classes with you and learn more human words and social skills. Not only would that be an excellent socialization opportunity for me but we could spend real quality time together during our training sessions. I am still growing a bit, so before I get full size it would be good for me to know my manners. I am the kind of girl who likes to stay busy and think it would be grand to have a job or two; canine sports, nose work, rally, carrying a backpack on hikes or playing mentally challenging games would be a great way to keep both my mind and body active. I have been described as friendly, active, intelligent, quiet and affectionate with a smidge of a stubborn streak. I am really a spectacular dog in the making; with your patient and positive guidance I am sure to make you proud and be a loving companion forever. Stop by to meet me in person and discover my dynamic personality for yourself.#2

But in order to help me out of here to catch the ride to WI on September 22nd and arrive on September 23rd, I need *both* a sponsor, and a WI foster home *or* a WI adopter! I have a place for now, but I can't stay here forever and I am worried. The rescue has put a hold on me to save my spot on the trip up north to WI, but now they need YOUR help to get me there - don't wait!!!
