Story
Meet Steve!   This sweet Retriever Mix boy was found running as a stray with his siblings in Chester, SC, back in June 2025. They were just puppies and were likely abandoned. With patience and kindness, their finders earned their trust and brought them to safety in their backyard. After six months living mostly outdoors, they reached out to our rescue for help finding loving homes for Steve and his sister, Henrietta. The siblings are now in separate foster homes, learning all about life indoors, and both are truly flourishing. Steve has been in his foster home for almost three weeks. At first, he was shy and shut down - home life, everyday noises, collars, and leash walks were all completely new to him. The backyard he lived in for those six months was the only home he had ever known. He is fortunate to be fostered by seasoned foster mom Cindy, who has helped many dogs successfully transition to home life. We are happy to share that Steve already has good house manners, has mastered the doggy door, and has solid leash skills. With practice and exposure, he’s grown more confident on leash and is comfortable walking in neighborhoods as well as on trails. He does well meeting new people and dogs and is a naturally sweet boy. Cindy shared this update: “Steve has really come a long way in a short time. He’s great with our grandkids and lets them pet him when they visit. He doesn’t run from them as he did in the beginning. He’ll come up to me for affection and is still building confidence, but you can tell he wants to connect and really wants to be petted and sit with you on the couch. I think after a few months with a family, he’ll be a completely different dog. He may not be the dog who immediately falls all over you when you first meet him, but once he builds trust, he chooses to be near you. He even waits for me when I come home and gets so excited to see me. For the most part, Steve is a calm, easygoing boy in the home. He truly lights up when he has another dog to play with; outside, he loves to run and play chase. He needs a confident, playful dog to follow and learn from. There isn’t an aggressive bone in his body; you can take away toys, treats, and he’s gentle with the kids.” Steve is a gentle, sweet, submissive soul with a medium energy level. He’s done well with the senior dog in his foster home and visiting family dogs. Because he learns by watching and following other dogs, we believe he would do best in a home with another social, established dog as a role model. Preference will be given to families with another dog in the home. This handsome boy is blossoming more each day and will make a wonderful family dog and loyal companion. Coming to the DC metro area in February, and would prefer he go directly home. Open to foster-to-adopt. Preference will be given to families with another dog in the home.  BREED ESTIMATE: Retriever/Terrier mix  GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 55 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~1 year old COAT TYPE:  Scruffy, wiry, medium coat - lower shed  ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Ft. Story
Meet Henrietta!  This sweet, doodle girl was spotted running as a stray with her siblings in Chester, SC, in June 2025. They were just puppies at the time, and we believe they had been abandoned there. With patience and time, their finders earned their trust, and once they did, the pups followed them home and into the yard for safety. For the next few months, Henrietta lived primarily outdoors in the finders’ backyard, coming inside during inclement weather. The family found a home for one of her siblings and reached out to rescue to ensure Henrietta and her brother, Steve, would also find safe, loving homes. While they are good buddies, Henrietta and Steve are now in separate foster homes, learning about home life and building their confidence, and both are doing well.  Henrietta has been in her foster home for almost a month and is learning to trust and come out of her shell. At first, she was shy and shut down; home life, everyday noises, collars, and leash walks were all completely new to her. The backyard she lived in for those six months was the only home she had ever known. She is fortunate to be fostered by seasoned fosters Laine and Gary, along with their pack of three dogs, who have helped many fosters successfully transition to family dog. Henrietta is very submissive and quickly found her place in the pack, learning by watching and following the older dogs. Because of this, we believe she would do best in a home with another social. established dog who can be a role model. In return, she will make an excellent pack member. While she’s still shy around sudden loud noises and quick movements, Henrietta has started to engage with Laine and Gary and is not fearful of people, just shy. She is a very sweet soul with a gentle nature and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, but she does need time to trust and get comfortable with new things.  She has a medium energy level, with the occasional zoomies, but overall is quite moderate for a young pup. She crates well and has already shown good house manners. Henrietta has started going on pack walks now, and while her tail was tucked initially, she gets more confident with every exposure. Henrietta loves soft, comfy beds and toys and feels most confident when she’s part of a pack. This sweet girl continues to blossom each day and is going to make a wonderful family dog and loyal companion. Coming to the DC metro area in February and would prefer she go directly home Open to foster-to-adopt. Preference will be given to families with another dog in the home.  Apply today! Story
Meet Liberty — a beautiful little soul learning how wonderful life can be.  At 4.5 months old and 26 pounds, Liberty is a Golden Doodle/Beagle mix with the softest coat and the gentlest heart. But her story didn’t start gently. Born outside in late October, she spent her earliest months exposed to unpredictable weather and very little stability. Because of that rough beginning, Liberty is still building her confidence — and as of 2/10/26, we’d say she’s making steady, beautiful progress every single day. In just 10 days in foster care, we’ve watched her begin to blossom. She may still be a little shy at first, but look into her eyes and you’ll see it immediately — this girl wants love. She wants connection. She wants to belong. Liberty will quietly sit next to you on the couch, gently leaning in. She’ll snuggle close wherever you are. And when you come home? She lights up — dancing with excitement and offering sweet kisses as her welcome-home celebration.   Liberty is also incredibly smart. With a Goldendoodle dad and a Heeler/Beagle mix mom, she inherited both brains and beauty. She has her dad’s soft, low-shedding coat, making her likely to be a non-shedder. Her fur is silky and stunning — naturally highlighted like she’s just stepped out of a salon. Her coloring is truly unique and eye-catching. In her foster home, Liberty plays beautifully with other dogs. She is submissive and will roll over on her back, showing her gentle, respectful nature. She has also been around children and does well with them. Her temperament is balanced — she enjoys running and playing outside, but she’s equally content curled up beside her people.   One of the most special things about Liberty is her sensitivity to those she loves. When her foster mom recently had a migraine, Liberty quietly snuggled up beside her, offering comfort without being asked. She has that intuitive, caring spirit that makes certain dogs truly unforgettable.   Liberty is expected to grow to around 40 pounds when fully grown. With a loving, patient, and supportive family, she is going to fully bloom into an incredible companion — loyal, affectionate, and deeply bonded to her people. She may have had a shaky start, but her future is bright. If you’re ready to give Liberty the forever home she deserves, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com. Liberty is ready to write her next chapter — this time filled with love.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comFebruary 11, 2026, 11:18 am

Story
Meet McCoy – the sweetest little sidekick you didn’t know you were missing. At just 4.5 months old and 24 pounds, McCoy is a delightful mix of silly, snuggly, and smart. He may be a tiny bit shy at first, but give him a little patience and you’ll quickly discover his playful personality and affectionate heart. McCoy comes from a pretty interesting family tree! His mom is a Heeler/Beagle mix and his dad is a cream-colored Goldendoodle, which resulted in one very unique and adorable pup. He has the coloring of his siblings but favors his Beagle-mix mama in looks — with short little legs, a loooong Basset-style body, and a thick, medium-length coat that’s perfect for cuddling. Though he was born outside and spent his early weeks living outdoors with his parents and littermates, McCoy is now thriving inside a loving foster home. He’s learning all about family life — from the excitement of greeting you at the door (he gives the best welcome-home kisses!) to living with young boys ages 6 and 10. Every day he grows braver and more confident. At first, the big dogs in his foster home made him a little nervous — but now? He’s happily part of the crew. He absolutely loves to run and play outside, and fetch with tennis balls is quickly becoming one of his favorite games. And yes… he is SMART. You can just see those wheels turning. One of the most special things about McCoy is how deeply he bonds with his people. When his foster mom recently had a terrible migraine, McCoy instinctively curled up beside her and stayed close, offering quiet comfort. He’s not just cute — he truly cares. His activity level is beautifully balanced. He enjoys playtime and adventures, but he’s just as happy snuggled up right next to you. With a loving, supportive family, McCoy is going to absolutely bloom into the best kind of companion — loyal, joyful, and full of heart. He is expected to grow to around 45–50 pounds when fully grown. If you’re looking for a special boy who is adorable inside and out, McCoy may be your perfect match. To learn more about McCoy, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com. We transport from our rescue base in Nashville up the northeastern corridor of states to approved adopters. McCoy is ready to find his forever family — maybe it’s you. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.February 12, 2026, 9:03 pm
