Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Brutus is a 12-year-old senior gentleman who has just joined rescue and is settling into his foster home after experiencing a big life change, his beloved owner passed away, which sadly landed Brutus at the impound through no fault of his own. While everything is still new to him, one thing is already very clear: Brutus is ready for a cozy bed, a comfy couch, and a loving home where he can enjoy his golden years. Despite being a senior, Brutus still has plenty of zest for life and a nice little spark of energy in him. He enjoys moving around, being part of the action, and reminding everyone that age is truly just a number. In his foster home, Brutus is living peacefully with other dogs, cats, and children (ages 8 and 13), and he’s doing wonderfully with everyone. He isn’t phased by cats at all and has shown himself to be an easygoing, sweet companion. Brutus is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than gently placing his big head in your lap for some love. He’s also fully potty trained, which makes him an easy addition to any home. If you’re looking for a calm, loving senior pup who will happily keep you company, while still having some pep left in his step, Brutus may be your perfect match and is so ready to be someone’s best friend  Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Brutus is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals. Story
History: Gru is a handsome boy who is our largest dog in rescue at this time. He is so kind and sweet and was released by a commercial breeding program. He hopes to find his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: My name is Gru, and I love love. Like, really love. My favorite thing is scratches, I could get them all day long. But, that might interfere with my nap schedule…I’ll have to think more about that. When my foster parents don’t pet me enough, I lean on them and direct their hands with my gentle mouth (it’s a Dane thing). Speaking of naps, I sleep many hours each day and love my kennel. I prefer to eat and play with other dogs (it’s a social Dane thing). I’m learning to play with toys, especially cozy couch blankets and towels to make my kennel feel more at home (it’s a comfort Dane thing). My foster mom tells me that my heart, ears, lips, and brain are the same size…who am I kidding? She thinks my brain is the smallest part of me but she doesn’t realize that I’m just being me (it’s a Dane thing). Time to be serious. I am the silliest dog you may meet, taught my foster dad a game where he acts like a dog, and prefer to do things on my time. I am learning to go potty outside and walk on a leash. I’m still adjusting to a life where I have freedom and fun, and

Story
History: Poe FKA Blanc was recently returned to rescue when she was no longer a fit for her adopted home. She is in need of a cherry eye surgery that is scheduled for December. She has not been spayed yet due to holding until she is 2 years old and full grown. Her adopter will sign a spay contract and will need to commit to the potential ongoing care she as a Great Dane will require. She hopes to find her forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: Poe is a fun-loving, energetic, and incredibly cuddly gal who doesn’t let a little cherry eye dull her sparkle. She adores toys of all kinds—rope, stuffies, sticks, bones are all her jam! She also loves neighborhood walks and soaking up every bit of affection she can get. Poe is potty-trained with regular outdoor breaks and a bit of encouragement to “go potty.” She’s also crate-trained and settles down nicely after a few moments of barking. While Poe is a sweetheart with people and other dogs, she’s developing a prey drive toward her current foster’s cat, so a cat-free home would be best. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog or as the center of someone’s world. After playtime, Poe is happiest curling up next to you, gently resting her head in your lap, and snoozing the day away. She’s ready to bring joy, energy, and snuggles to her forever family!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $ 500 plus tax Meet Wally — a sweet, calm, snuggly boy whose gentle, friendly nature always shines through. Everyone who meets him immediately falls in love with this special dog. Wally has overcome so much in his few years. After losing his front leg following an attack by another dog, he has bounced right back to his happy, playful self. As he adjusts to tripawd life, he does well with stairs and prefers carpeted surfaces. He loves to go outside to sniff and explore in the backyard. Despite everything he’s been through, Wally gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He politely invites them to play, always respects their boundaries, and takes corrections from both humans and dogs very well. He’s even won over our cranky resident dog and would benefit from another confident dog playmate in the home. Wally is fully house-trained and trusted with free rein in our home, as he is not a fan of the crate. He is very quiet and hardly barks, even when our resident dog is on security patrol. He’s still working on commands, but his calm, eager-to-please nature makes him easy to live with. Wally has proven to be great with babies and young kids thanks to his calm, sweet temperament. He spends his days playing with chewies, napping, and happily cuddling up on the couch. He is happiest and most comfortable right by his people. Wally would thrive in a loving home where he can continue to be close to his humans as he settles into this new way of life — surrounded by the care, comfort, and affection he so deeply deserves. Story
About Lola Lola is a joyful, playful girl who brings equal parts fun and heart to every day. She loves zooming around the yard, fetching her favorite toys, and showing off her silly personality. Once she’s decided fetch time is over, she’s back to her signature zoomies, they’re her favorite way to celebrate life! When it’s time to wind down, Lola enjoys cozying up in her room on her dog bed. She sleeps in a gated space with her foster’s other dogs and loves being tucked in with a blanket at bedtime (especially since her foster likes to keep the room chilly). Home Life Lola is crate-trained and walks right in when it’s time, though she’ll give one gentle whine to share her opinion before settling quietly. She does best when crated for up to about four hours at a time and has shown no barking or destructive behavior while crated. She’ll give a friendly bark when the doorbell rings but is easily redirected to a calm “sit” and “stay.” Lola enjoys watching the world go by from the front window or through the yard gate, and she’s impressively quiet while doing it, zero barking at passersby or neighborhood noise! Out & About Lola is a dream travel companion! She rides calmly in the back of the SUV and doesn’t bark or fuss at drive-thrus or people nearby. On walks, she’s made incredible progress, remaining non-reactive to other dogs, people, and squirrels, and learning to relax and enjoy sniffing at her foster’s side. Vet & Social Skills Lola is a star at the vet! She’s had full exams, ear cleanings, and even her anal glands expressed with ease. The staff loves her calm, friendly demeanor. She’s also had a successful playdate with a male Great Dane, showing that she can enjoy canine companionship with the right match. Personality Sweet, smart, and affectionate, Lola is the perfect balance of playful and gentle. She’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh during the day and melt your heart at night. Whoever adopts Lola will be incredibly lucky to welcome this loving, loyal girl into their family. ##2570322##

Story
Meet Mocha – A Gentle Soul with Special Needs Mocha is a 5-year-old spayed blue Great Dane with the softest heart and one of the most trusting, gentle temperaments you’ll ever meet. She truly adores people; whether you’re family or a brand-new friend, she greets everyone with quiet affection and complete trust. If you’re looking for a calm, loving companion who bonds deeply with her humans, Mocha is your girl. Mocha is incredibly sweet, mild-mannered, and emotionally tender. She enjoys gentle play, short games of tug or chasing a stuffy for a few minutes at a time, but she’s not overly energetic. She is happiest being near her people and soaking up love. While Mocha is wonderful with humans, she does not enjoy high-energy, in-your-face dogs. Calm, respectful dogs with slow, structured introductions, especially senior or low-energy companions are welcomed. She gains confidence once she knows a dog.  Special Feeding Needs Mocha has a history of intestinal struggles, so her diet is extremely important. She does not need expensive prescription food, but she must remain on a very low-fat diet (5% fat or less).• She does best on soaked low-fat kibble (“mush”) paired with low-fat canned food• Food must be fully soaked for several hours or overnight• She currently eats 4–5 small meals per day• Most canned foods are too high in fat for her—only specific low-fat formulas are safe Because of her condition, Mocha will need an adopter who is committed to:• Careful food selection• Multiple daily feedings• Consistency and monitoring Home & Lifestyle NeedsMocha requires a home where someone is present most of the day to maintain her feeding and potty schedule.• She needs to go outside every 3–4 hours• While she is now housebroken and understands not to go inside, she physically cannot hold it too long• With proper water management and frequent potty breaks, she can stay accident-free Mocha is incredibly smart and resourceful, especially when food is involved, so secure food storage is a must!  The Ideal Home Mocha will thrive in a home that offers:• A calm environment• Low-energy or possibly no other dogs• A structured feeding routine• A flexible schedule for frequent potty breaks• A family that understands medical management and is ready to continue her care The Heart of It All Mocha is truly one of a kind—a soft, soulful, deeply trusting dog who just wants to love and be loved. Her needs are unique, but so is the bond she offers in return. For the right home, Mocha will be an extraordinarily loyal, gentle, and devoted companion. If you have the time, patience, and heart to give this special girl what she needs, Mocha will give you everything she has in return.  ##2627397##
