Story
Welcome Cheeto. He is a 8- month old Great Dane mix. He is 83 pounds right now and may be 100 pounds full grown. Cheeto is a great dog. He knows sit and shake a paw. He is decent on a leash. He loves treats and will sit when asked to with a treat. He loves the lady kennel workers. He is timid which is common in this breed but he is very friendly and affectionate. He would be great with someone that knows and understands this wonderful breed. He was found on the streets of Texas and was taken in by a good Samaritan. He can go with children. We like them to 8 or older. He would love to be a companion for the right family. He will love being a house dog and he is energetic but not for too much time and he settles down nicely. If you have a fenced back yard, he can get enough exercise exploring it. He could also go on walks. He does pull some but he really wants to do what you are asking so consistency with him will work wonders. He is currently neutered, vaccinated, healthy and ready for his forever home. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is 400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Brutus is a 12-year-old senior gentleman who has recently joined rescue and is settling into his foster home after a major life change. His beloved owner sadly passed away, which landed Brutus at the impound through no fault of his own. Despite everything he’s been through, Brutus remains a loving, resilient boy with so much affection left to give. Though he’s a senior, Brutus still has some zest for life and a little pep in his step. He absolutely adores being around his people and soaking up attention. Whether it’s curling up beside you on the couch or gently plopping his head in your lap, Brutus is happiest when he’s close and snuggling. Brutus enjoys sniffing around the yard and going for leisurely walks, taking in the world at his own pace. Brutus can be trusted to free roam the house. While he will go into a kennel if needed, he much prefers having the freedom to move between his favorite spots, usually the couch and a cozy dog bed. He does well with other dogs, cats, and children. While he’s not one for rowdy play, Brutus enjoys their company and fits in easily with a loving household. Incredibly affectionate and fully potty trained, Brutus is an easy, low-maintenance addition to any home. All he wants is a soft place to rest, plenty of pets, and a family to share his golden years with. If you’re looking for a calm, loving senior who will happily keep you company and still surprise you with a little pep from time to time, Brutus may be your perfect match and is so ready to be someone’s best friend.  Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Brutus is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals. Story
History: Gru is a handsome boy who is our largest dog in rescue at this time. He is so kind and sweet and was released by a commercial breeding program. He hopes to find his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: My name is Gru, and I love love. Like, really love. My favorite thing is scratches, I could get them all day long. But, that might interfere with my nap schedule…I’ll have to think more about that. When my foster parents don’t pet me enough, I lean on them and direct their hands with my gentle mouth (it’s a Dane thing). Speaking of naps, I sleep many hours each day and love my kennel. I prefer to eat and play with other dogs (it’s a social Dane thing). I’m learning to play with toys, especially cozy couch blankets and towels to make my kennel feel more at home (it’s a comfort Dane thing). My foster mom tells me that my heart, ears, lips, and brain are the same size…who am I kidding? She thinks my brain is the smallest part of me but she doesn’t realize that I’m just being me (it’s a Dane thing). Time to be serious. I am the silliest dog you may meet, taught my foster dad a game where he acts like a dog, and prefer to do things on my time. I am learning to go potty outside and walk on a leash. I’m still adjusting to a life where I have freedom and fun, and

Story
History: Poe FKA Blanc was recently returned to rescue when she was no longer a fit for her adopted home. She is in need of a cherry eye surgery that is scheduled for December. She has not been spayed yet due to holding until she is 2 years old and full grown. Her adopter will sign a spay contract and will need to commit to the potential ongoing care she as a Great Dane will require. She hopes to find her forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: Poe is a fun-loving, energetic, and incredibly cuddly gal who doesn’t let a little cherry eye dull her sparkle. She adores toys of all kinds—rope, stuffies, sticks, bones are all her jam! She also loves neighborhood walks and soaking up every bit of affection she can get. Poe is potty-trained with regular outdoor breaks and a bit of encouragement to “go potty.” She’s also crate-trained and settles down nicely after a few moments of barking. While Poe is a sweetheart with people and other dogs, she’s developing a prey drive toward her current foster’s cat, so a cat-free home would be best. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog or as the center of someone’s world. After playtime, Poe is happiest curling up next to you, gently resting her head in your lap, and snoozing the day away. She’s ready to bring joy, energy, and snuggles to her forever family!

Story
Meet Misty! She's a smart lady who is smart as a whip! She's crate trained, mastered many commands (sit, down, off, mat, enough, go to your room, here, all done- more than most kids :). She loves to run, play fetch and be wherever you are! She's a year and a half old, and was lucky enough to have professional training donated to help her find her forever home. Whoever adopts her will receive at least one free hand off session from her trainer to help her transition go perfectly! Her ideal family would be somewhat active (she needs to run around a yard at least a few times per day). She gets along well with other dogs, but calmer dogs are best. Misty loves to play, but she can get very excited if the other dog is too energetic! She would do well with older children. Younger children and cats would require a lot of supervision. Her trainer thinks she would be a great agility dog, but she is smart enough to do anything you want to train her to do! She will require some active parenting to teach her the rules of your house, because she is so smart, she may try to make her own activities if nothing fun is provided! She's potty trained now (we had some overnight accidents until she started going in her crate at night). She's a great dog with a good head on her shoulders, and she wants to know if you are the one for her! $200 In State Adoption Fee (in Texas) $400 Out of State Fee (includes Transportation to your area) $50 Temporary fuel surcharge.
