Story
Oonagh was adopted as a puppy from a rescue that no longer exists. She has been described as a mini Great Dane and that is very much her personality. She is about 70lbs and is 5 years old. She is loyal and affectionate. The reward she craves is your affection and attention but is also very food motivated. She is potty trained and crate trained. Her favorite place is next to you on the couch. She gets along with most other dogs but not all. She has some anxiety and takes medication to help her with that. She would be suited for a home that has no children and preferably no other dogs (or a low energy dog) as she does want to be the center of your attention and does well with routine. She walks well on a leash by herself but pulls if she is walking with other dogs. If you want a big loving companion who will gladly go for a walk/run or lounge on the she may be the dog for you.

Story
Hi Friends! My name is Magnolia but everyone calls me Maggie. I am a spayed, female Great Dane that is 1.5 years old. If you are looking for a funny girl who is well trained and has a willingness to please her family, then I am your girl. I am a cute petite lady that loves attention and playing. My interests are eating water biscuits, wiggling my butt, and playing with all the toys at once. I am well trained and listen to commands; however, being consistent will keep me out of mischief. I am fully potty trained, and crate trained, but I am vocal during the day while in the crate. I sleep in my crate at night and I am so worn out from my busy day that you won’t hear me make a sound. I would like to find a forever home that will continue being consistent with my training and take me on walks. While I've been able to do ok with other doggos, I'm not predictable and therefore need to be the only pet in my forever home. If there are family member doggos that might come by, I'll need to be muzzled at all times with them, even if it seems like we are getting along nicely. I love my muzzle, as I know I get to have a good time when I'm wearing itl!  Sometimes I can get overwhelmed with chaos and get too excited so a Great Dane savvy family is what I’m looking for.  I can’t wait to find my very own home because I am a lover that appreciates attention. ##2319866##

Story
Hey there, I am Gordy aka Gordon (when I’m not listening) and Gordito Crunch (when my foster mama is playing with me)! I am a 5 year old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix. That just means I’m extra great of course! I have the Great Dane height and body but a Great Pyrenees head with the Pyrenees shedding.  I was originally surrendered as a puppy due to having special back legs. I was adopted to a wonderful family but returned back to rescue because of my sensitivity to frequent visitors. I get that from the Great Pyrenees side - I feel the need to protect my home and yard.  I love hard and love attention from my humans but don’t enjoy people I don’t know initially when they enter my home. I take my job of protecting the home seriously and need my humans to prove to me that they can control and protect the house so I don’t have to worry about it. I really respect boundaries and expectations that are presented to me by my humans!  I  graduated a 5 week board and train program  in 2023. I have strong obedience skills and am looking for a home who can hold me accountable to those skills. I know how to walk well on leash, the place command, heel, come and all of the other skills I need to be a well mannered boy. I am trained with an eCollar and a prong collar for walking. My future family should be comfortable with those training tools.  I really love to play with toys and other dog friends. I’m a total goofball but have shown resource guarding over food with other dogs. I prefer to eat my food and bones in my kennel or in a separate room from other dogs however, as I get older I am much more relaxed. I am also good with cats though have never lived with one.  I really love my kennel. I will sleep there at night, when my foster parents are gone or when there are visitors at the house. I can also be left out to free roam at night though I prefer to sleep next to my foster parents bed or in the hallway so I can keep a watchful eye on my humans.  Remember how I was surrendered as a puppy due to having special legs? Well, I still have special back legs. I was born with slightly twisted femurs so I walk a bit differently and have arthritis in my back knees. I love to run and play but can be sore after playing all day long so I occasionally take gabapentin to help. I also require daily joint supplements to help my bones stay healthy. I have a pet insurance policy that will be transferred to a potential adopter - they will be expected to continue to keep that in place after adopting me.  Foster Mama Here:Gordy is the bestest boy. We fostered him when he was a puppy as well. We do not let him greet new visitors at our house and require him to stay on his bed in a “place” while visitors are here or in his kennel. He does like to meet people slowly and at a good pace. We would walk his adoptive family through the intro process that he is successful with. Once he knows and trusts you he will forever welcome you as a family member of his.  Gordy has so much potential and loves so hard. But he will require owners who can set strict boundaries in the home and hold him accountable. His breed and genetics make him want to protect his home and people but if you a set boundaries he is such a great listener. We walk him on a prong collar and he is eCollar trained. His adopters will need to commit to continued use of these training tools and also meeting with his board and train trainer to learn about everything he knows. Gordy is muzzle trained. He is great at the groomer! Gordy loves the snow and playing outside. His favorite is his doggy pool in the summer. We have 4 other dogs in our home and he plays with all of them.  Gordy lived with kids in his first home. He was very protective over them so we do not recommend he go to a home with children under the age of 12. He could thrive in the country as he will bark when he sees humans and dogs walking by the home. ##954057##

Story
Introducing Max! Playful Curious Shy Snuggly Hi, I’m Max! I’m a playful, curious, and sweet Great Dane who loves being part of the family. While I might be a little shy at first—especially around men with hats—once I feel comfortable, I’ll become your loyal and loving companion. My zoomies are pretty legendary, and I promise to fill your days with joy and laughter! I thrive on being included in everything my family does, whether it’s playtime, snuggles, or adventures. I’ve lived with children before and did great with them, though I’m not currently in a home with kids. I get along well with other dogs and tend to be submissive and curious around them. Cats? Well, I’ve been a little scared of them in the past, so I’d need careful introductions if my forever home has feline friends. What I Love: Playtime and running around (zoomies included!). Snuggling with my people—it’s the best! Car rides and exploring new places. Elk antlers and playing with balls. Being involved in all family activities. What I Dislike: Rushed introductions. I need a little time to feel comfortable, especially around men with hats. I’m housebroken and crate-trained. I have handled being crated for 8+ hours as needed while my foster family is at work. In my previous home, I did well with free roam too. I already know commands like sit, come, and down, and I’m working on learning shake. I’m also improving my leash manners and getting used to having my legs and paws touched. With positive reinforcement and some patience, I’ll continue to shine. I’m in great health with no concerns—ready to join my forever family! My Forever Home Wish List: Yard: A midsize to large yard where I can play and zoom around would be amazing. A physical fence isn’t required but would help keep me safe. Companionship: I’d love a home with another dog as a companion and playmate. Family: A family willing to continue my training and be patient during introductions would be the perfect fit. If you’re looking for a fun, loving, and adventurous addition to your family, I’m your guy. Let’s make some amazing memories together—I can’t wait to meet you! Max has a playful spirit and a knack for zoomies that will leave you laughing! When he's not running around, he loves to snuggle and soak up all the attention from his family. If you think Max will be a great addition to your family please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Max’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about her. 2. Story
Introducing Patch! Happy  Active  Social  Affectionate Personality: Patch is a playful and joyful Great Dane whose antics light up every room he enters. Despite his deafness and partial blindness, he exudes happiness and energy that are truly contagious. Submissive yet full of life, Patch thrives on companionship and play. Socialness: Patch loves the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with one or two canine companions to share in his playful escapades. His interactions with cats are unknown, so slow and structured introductions would be necessary. While Patch enjoys being around people of all ages, a home without young children is ideal due to his size and exuberance. Likes: Playing with his canine friends. Snuggling with his family. Playing outside and enjoying the fresh air. Ice cream treats (his favorite indulgence!). Hogging the bed or couch for his naps. Dislikes: Being left alone for extended periods. Training: Patch is housebroken and crate-trained. He does well with hand signals and touch for communication of commands. He has been trusted with free roam for short periods of time while his foster family is away but may get a bit rambunctious if left for longer periods of time while having free roam. He does do well being crated during a standard workday. Health: Patch is on a generic form of Prozac to help manage his anxiety. He also has "happy tail," a result of his wagging enthusiasm, which occasionally causes minor injuries. Otherwise, Patch is in good health and ready to share his love and joy with his forever family. Forever Home Requirements: A physical fence of at least 6 feet is required to ensure his safety due to his deafness and partial blindness. He would love a mid-size to large yard to play in. A home with one or two playful and gentle canine companions is ideal. No young children; older children or adults are best suited to match his size and energy. Fun Fact: Patch’s tail wags with so much enthusiasm that it sometimes causes his "happy tail" to break open—a testament to just how thrilled he is to be around his loved ones! His vibrant personality shines through his expressive eyes, inviting you to embark on a journey of love and companionship. Patch is eager to become your loyal friend. If you are the friend Patch is waiting for, please contact us by following one of the steps below. 1.
