Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi! I'm Ludo, a big and beautiful Great Pyrenees. Currently, I share my home with a Dachshund, a Cocker Spaniel, and a kitty in Minneapolis. After slow introductions, I have learned to be gentle with the little animals I’m sharing a home with. I get along with dogs of all sizes and breeds with proper and slow introductions. I would love a companion more my size to play with, but I would also be fine as an only dog. I don’t have a lot of energy, but I love to go for leisurely walks. I walk beautifully on a leash. I do not pull. I’m patient. I wait nicely when we need to stop, and I’m very polite to other people and dogs walking.  My favorite hobbies are laying outside in the snow and cooling off after a long day of chewing on bones and, lounging on my dog bed in the sunspot, looking into the backyard. I enjoy playing alone in the backyard by throwing toys up in the air and catching them. I’ve learned that car rides take me to fun places, and I love to sit in the back and look out the window. I love to snuggle! Mom won’t let me on the furniture. She says I’m too big. But that doesn’t stop me from snuggling as close as possible at all times. I love to be around people. True to my breed, I love to patrol the backyard and guard from any possible threats. I have a big warning woof if I think someone or something may look suspicious. Occasionally, I startle while I’m sleeping and give off a big woof out of nowhere, but I think the bad dreams will stop once I’m comfortable and feel safe. I’m a big boy! 70 pounds of pure floof. I’m a perfect gentleman in the house. I don’t have accidents and can be left out to roam at night from 9 pm to 6 am with no trouble at all. I’m working on kennel training. It’s a little scary for me, but I now go in there nicely and even have dinner in my kennel now! I’m quickly learning that is my safe space. I would do well in a home that will continue to work with my training. I’m only 1 year old, and have lots of potential and love to learn!    When Ludo first arrived in rescue we noticed a slight limp. After seeing a specialist and having a physical exam and diagnostics performed, Ludo was confirmed to have bilateral hip dysplasia with a left femoral head luxation. In addition, his right femur has previously been fractured. Surgery is not recommended at this time but Ludo will likely need to be on pain medication and joint supplements as needed/ lifelong. It would be best for Ludo to be in a home with not too many stairs. Adopter should discuss with primary vet on proceeding with surgery if needed in the future.   If you are interested in getting to know Ludo better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.   Ludo is from a local impound. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Pizza is a beautiful, affectionate dog who loves attention and being close to his people. He’s incredibly sweet and loyal, often seeking your approval when outdoors—it’s truly heartwarming! He enjoys cuddling, belly rubs, and will even use his nose to nudge your hand onto him for some extra comfort. Pizza also loves to snuggle up in bed with our kids and is always looking to be near someone he trusts. While Pizza is very loving, he can be shy and reserved when first meeting new people, especially men. He needs some time and space to feel safe. A patient family who understands his need to retreat and adjust at his own pace would be a great match for him. Having a confident dog sibling will really help boost his confidence. Right now, he’s scared of cats, but that might change over time with a slow introduction. Pizza is a wonderful companion who will thrive in a calm, understanding home that gives him the time he needs to feel comfortable. Once he feels secure, his loving and cuddly personality will really shine. Click here to see a cute video of Pizza enjoying some time outside! Pizza is from a local reservation. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Noah was born on the mean streets of Houston, TX.  His mother, an abandoned stray, gave birth to a litter of 7 puppies under an abandoned house, Thankfully, a kind woman took them in when they were just days old, so they were able to grow up safe and sound, a roof over their heads and full little bellies. Noah loves to play, especially outside, and his playful nature will win you over in no time. He has a lot of energy and a big heart, often wiggling his way into your heart with his adorable antics. Noah is used to the constant company of his siblings, so he would do well in a home with another friendly resident dog to keep him company and teach him the ropes. While he’s still a puppy, Noah is growing fast and will be a larger dog when he’s fully grown. He’s an active guy who would love a home with a family that enjoys outdoor activities. Noah would likely do best in a home with older kids, just until he’s fully trained and can learn to control his excitement and mouthy play around little ones. Noah is not yet potty trained, but what puppy is?  The key to potty training a puppy is to feed them, then about 20-30 minutes later, take them outside and give them a good 20 minutes to take care of their business.  this type of consistent schedule is critical to potty training any dog.  Noah is not currently cate trained, but crate training is also very easy as long as you are consistent.  Feed him all his meals in his kennel, leaving the door open, as well as any high value treats.  when you kennel him for the nighty, cover his kennel with a sturdy blanket, and that will help him get over his puppy FOMO. Kenneling your dog is the best way to save them from themselves.. keeping them out of mischief. Noah is looking for an active family that just wants to make him a part of their lives.  If you’re looking for a loving, active puppy who’s eager to play and cuddle, Noah might just be the perfect addition to your family!  Please fill out an adoption application today, he honestly can't wait to meet you! Noah is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 12/14/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Novalee is a confident, smart, and energetic puppy who’s ready to join an active family! Novalee was part of a litter of six puppies rescued from a tough situation. Her mama had been dumped in the country in Texas, but luckily a kind woman took them in and gave them the chance to grow up safe and loved. Novalee is a playful and assertive little girl who loves attention and enjoys playing outside. She thrives in environments where she can get plenty of exercise and stimulation, so she’d be a great fit for a family that enjoys outdoor activities. She would also do well with a playful, older dog to show her the ropes and help burn off some of her boundless energy. Because she’s still a puppy, Novalee will need some training, including house training and crate training, and she’ll benefit from having a yard to play and explore. While she’s been around kids and gets along well with them, Novalee is still learning how to manage her excitement and may accidentally knock over younger children. Older kids who can keep up with her playful nature would be a great fit! Novalee is a loving, active puppy with loads of potential, and she’s looking for a home that can give her the time, attention, and training she needs to grow into the wonderful dog she’s meant to be. If you’re looking for a playful companion, Novalee might just be the one for you! Novalee is from Texas. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $300 plus tax Friendly! Not treat motivated  No accidents No separation anxiety  Dwight would do best in an active home (His foster believes a home without younger children or another resident dog would be ideal) Loves to be outside  Goes on errands with his Foster like Home Depot runs and Petco visits One time Dwight saw a mannequin and nuzzled it's hand so it would 'pet' him - Cute!! Dwight would like everyone who sees him to say hi  Dwight is a handsome Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix! He loves dog parks and playing outside, rolling in the grass. He will do well in a fenced property or farm. He is leash trained, muzzle trained, and crate trained, however, the door often remains open. He’s a quick learner. He’s a little over 2 years old and shy of 100 pounds. He knows no, wait, down, paw, gentle, bed, belly, “get it” to eat, and sit with many more things he’s still perfecting. He loves the butt scratches but when he is sleeping her prefers to be left alone. He can sometimes be a little protective of his chew bones or food. He doesn’t play fetch but he loves chasing a laser like a cat. He prefers humans to chase him as a way of playing. He came from a home with two adults and should not go to a home with children. He’s used to a more quiet space and doesn’t do very well with loud noises. He did a great job outside watching his previous owner in his work shop. He does a great job being an outside guard dog, that’s definitely the Great Pyrenees in him. He loves to work and play. He has a ton of energy.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
Kit has been in rescue for over one year & celebrated her 2nd birthday (9/29) by showing foster mom a new trick. She is almost always the first one to come in when called. This is a huge milestone because she was so skittish when arriving into rescue that she would run away anytime she was approached or called to come in. She now has a perfect routine after 18 months, but it has been slow progress.  She loves getting pets & has been enjoying belly rubs as of recent. Kit loves other dogs but tends to be very dominant and a little snappy when meeting new dogs for the first time. She would be fine with a dog that is less dominant or with a patient alpha, who will gently show her who’s in charge. She would also be fine as an only dog. She absolutely loves puppies & is very gentle, so the perfect scenario may be that she is the first dog & another is added at some point. She cannot be around small animals, such as birds, cats, or chickens, as her prey drive is HIGH. We have chickens & she’s gotten into them this summer with unfortunate outcomes for the chickens. She definitely needs a fenced yard because her absolute favorite thing to do is run! She will frolic & play for as long as she can. She loves long walks, soft toys & sleeping on the couch or in bed. She doesn’t need to be kenneled although when she is in new places, she may chew on things she is not supposed to, such as socks, pillows, and cushions. She has not done this in a very long time but it is a nervous response for her. She would love a home where she could have more one on one attention as she doesn’t ask for much.  Due to her cautious nature, older, respectful kids would be best. She will take time and patience to adjust to a new environment but when she does the little things will reward you tenfold. She's been in rescue long enough and would love a home of her own!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:33 pm
