Story
We are looking to rehome our lovely Murphy due to realizing that he needs more space (farm or large yard with a fence) and (preferably) to be in a home with another big dog that he can play with. Murphy is a year old and 72lbs. He is a very sweet boy who wants to be outside and playing and/or to be around his people. He is very smart. We have been working on commands such as sit, stay, come, place and kennel. He's still trying to get a hang of "come" but otherwise is learning quite well. He is getting more comfortable with his kennel and sleeps there at night and will often go in and lay down when we are around. He cannot yet be off leash as he will run. He gets several walks a day and does quite well on a leash. He does really well with our other 4lb dog but sad because she won't play. Our cat will not come out of the basement, as he is too scared, and therefore we don't know how well the two of them would do. Murphy is a great dog and just needs a more fitting space/home.

Story
This is Kit, she’s a Doberman/Great Pyrenees mix born approximately 9/29/22.  Kit has fully acclimated to our home, as a foster, after about 10 months here. She has done well at adoption events, curiously sniffing people & enjoying pets. She will always be timid with new people, but is definitely settling in more quickly now that she is gaining confidence. She will cautiously sniff new people & approach, but it will take her a bit to truly invite attention.  She also is responding to the “come” command to get her leash or harness on, where a few months ago, she would run away from the leash the minute it came out.  We moved her kennel, so had a bit of challenge re-orienting her to it, but she still goes in easily & is quiet when there.  If Kit had her way, she would be outside all the time, she LOVES running outside & would do amazing with a dog or two to run around with and a fenced in yard-preferably a privacy fence. She is very dog friendly, but does give cues when she is tired or has a favorite toy/bone. She does have a high prey drive so no cats, birds, rabbits or other small pets. We have chickens and she's VERY interested in them. She comes when called "inside" & knows the "kennel" command. She eats in her kennel & has never made a peep when in it during my work hours. She does bark at most of the passerby's outside on the busy sidewalk, as we live just down from a school, so there is lots of foot traffic. She REALLY likes sleeping in bed with us, but that is a rare occasion. She is getting more snuggly on the couch too & really loves attention, when she is ready for it.  After 10 months, she finally rolled over for belly rubs & took a few treats from my hand! Due to her cautious nature, older, respectful kids would be best. She will take time an patience to adjust in a new environment but when she does the little things will reward you tenfold. She's been in rescue long enough and would love a home of her own.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $550.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 19, 2024, 3:35 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $350 plus tax Friendly! Not treat motivated  No accidents No separation anxiety  Dwight would do best in an active home (His foster believes a home without younger children would be ideal) Loves to be outside  Goes on errands with his Foster like Home Depot runs and Petco visits One time Dwight saw a mannequin and nuzzled it's hand so it would 'pet' him - Cute!! Dwight would like everyone who sees him to say hi  Dwight is a handsome Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix! He loves dog parks and playing outside, rolling in the grass. He will do well in a fenced property or farm. He is leash trained, muzzle trained, and crate trained, however, the door often remains open. He’s a quick learner. He’s a little over 2 years old and shy of 100 pounds. He knows no, wait, down, paw, gentle, bed, belly, “get it” to eat, and sit with many more things he’s still perfecting. He loves the butt scratches but when he is sleeping her prefers to be left alone. He can sometimes be a little protective of his chew bones or food. He doesn’t play fetch but he loves chasing a laser like a cat. He prefers humans to chase him as a way of playing. He came from a home with two adults and should not go to a home with children. He’s used to a more quiet space and doesn’t do very well with loud noises. He did a great job outside watching his previous owner in his work shop. He does a great job being an outside guard dog, that’s definitely the Great Pyrenees in him. He loves to work and play. He has a ton of energy.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Story
Olaf is a Great Pyrenees who is estimated to be about 3-4 years old. He gets along with everyone - dogs, cats, and kids. Olaf would like slow introductions to men as he finds them a little scary at first but he has no issues coexisting with them.   Olaf kennels perfectly and can be expected to be nearly potty trained in his new home. He has only had one accident in his foster mom's home.   This big guy is going to need a special home because he has a neurological disability that has caused severe weakness in his back legs. This doesn't slow him down except when it comes to stairs. Olaf can only handle 2-3 stairs on his own before he needs assistance. For this reason, Olaf should be adopted by a family with very little stairs that Olaf would need to navigate, especially between inside & outside. Rest assured, Olaf can still walk, run and play as long as his back paws are looked after as they do occasionally bend at an odd angle. He also has no issues going to the bathroom by himself.   Olaf is a very social dog who would do best in a home that also has another dog. He especially like big dogs.   His new family should also know that Olaf is true to his breed - Great Pyrenees do tend to bark a bit more than other breeds but it is very manageable and frankly, we think Olaf's bark is pretty cool - deep & rumbly. This means Olaf will thrive in a single family home that does not share walls with other families.   To recap, Olaf will need:   - A home with very little stairs, especially between inside & outside - At least one doggy brother or sister - A home without shared walls - And most importantly, a home that has LOTS of love to give and receive   If your home fits the bill, please consider giving Olaf a chance. You won't regret it! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $450 plus taxHello, my name is Bob! I’m an 85 pound, 1 yr 3-month old Great Pyrenees x Saint Bernard mix. I love going to stores like Fleet Farm and Home Depot for visiting and training. While I’m out and about I love meeting new people and children especially if they give me treats! I'm a huge fan of couch cuddles, paw rubs, and looking out the window at squirrels.  I’m fully potted trained and proud to say I passed puppy and basic obedience class with flying colors.   I’m looking for an active family that has a fenced backyard so I can roam and spend lots of time in the sunshine.  I’m used to walking 1.5 to 3 miles daily and would love to continue that routine. I would also like a family that is home a lot and not gone for 7+ hours a day. I’m learning kennel training now and doing very well. I would prefer to be with a family that has a medium to large adult dog that is calm, or to be an only child. High-energy dogs make me nervous, and I don’t like that kind of high level of stimulation. I’m not a fan of cats even though I think they look like toys to play with. I may have a loud bark when I see a dog or bike rider outside my window, but I am very loyal and want to protect my family and let them know what I see. Even though I am very gentle with people and little children, I would like someone who has experience with my breed and is a good pack leader for me to follow. If you think I would be a great fit for your family I would love to meet you! Story
Frannie is a very sweet, gentle girl who's favorite thing is to play with other pups. She loves to run around outside with friends. She is good with other dogs and hasn't met cats yet so that is an unknown. Frannie is doing great with houstraining and if kept on a schedule does her business outside. Frannie's foster family is still getting to know her so updates will be coming soon but if her picture caught your eye, please fill out an application to learn more about her!        Frannie is estimated to be 5 months old and 30 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at http://www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!
