Story
Benson is a big boy – he is a 1 yr old great Pyrenees/lab mix that weighs 92#. He presented to Second Chance as an unclaimed stray, and is an easy dog to have around. His foster says that Benson is “pure love” – he loves everybody, especially children. Enjoys the company and interactions with other dogs, and is a hit at the dog park. Benson is amazingly perceptive to the welfare of people – one day at the park he was jogging alongside a young girl to make sure she was safe from the other dogs, and when the girl’s mother was knocked over by another dog, Benson ran over to check to be sure she was OK. He seems to be protective, concerned, and a caretaker – I don’t know how dogs are evaluated for therapy dog training, but Benson might be a candidate. But he is quite sensitive to raised voices or a correction of any kind, and acts like his feelings have been hurt and he is devastated. He wants so much to please. Any children in his home should be mature enough to not raise their voice at him, or spank him if he doesn’t do what they want - perhaps 8-10 yr and up. No cat experience. Very quiet – foster hasn’t heard him bark yet. Benson is housebroken – he doesn’t ask to go out, and is able to be left for an 8 hr. workday. At night, he sleeps on his big dog bed which is right next to your bed. Rides well in the car – always ready to jump in and go with you – EXCEPT if you want to take him home from the dog park because he doesn’t want to leave. He usually walks well on a leash, but if you hook him to a leash to take him out of the dog park, his stubborn streak kicks in and he lays down. So the foster waits a couple minutes, then says “let’s go now” – Benson will get up and come along. Thankfully he is well behaved when left home, and not destructive, because you really can’t get him into a kennel. He should have a bone to chew on and a couple chew toys to entertain himself with; he hasn’t gotten into any mischief. Benson loves attention, pets, body rubs, and being told he is a good boy. He has selective hearing – if he is doing something enjoyable he might ignore being called. Benson would benefit from obedience classes, as he doesn’t know basic commands. There is something special about him, and you melt when he looks at you with his soft, brown eyes. Benson is neutered, and current on distemper, bordetella and rabies vaccinations. His heartworm test and tick profile are negative. The microchip is registered to Second Chance. His adoption fee is $375 . Call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in Benson.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $300 plus tax Friendly! Not treat motivated  No accidents No separation anxiety  Dwight would do best in an active home (His foster believes a home without younger children would be ideal) Loves to be outside  Goes on errands with his Foster like Home Depot runs and Petco visits One time Dwight saw a mannequin and nuzzled it's hand so it would 'pet' him - Cute!! Dwight would like everyone who sees him to say hi  Dwight is a handsome Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix! He loves dog parks and playing outside, rolling in the grass. He will do well in a fenced property or farm. He is leash trained, muzzle trained, and crate trained, however, the door often remains open. He’s a quick learner. He’s a little over 2 years old and shy of 100 pounds. He knows no, wait, down, paw, gentle, bed, belly, “get it” to eat, and sit with many more things he’s still perfecting. He loves the butt scratches but when he is sleeping her prefers to be left alone. He can sometimes be a little protective of his chew bones or food. He doesn’t play fetch but he loves chasing a laser like a cat. He prefers humans to chase him as a way of playing. He came from a home with two adults and should not go to a home with children. He’s used to a more quiet space and doesn’t do very well with loud noises. He did a great job outside watching his previous owner in his work shop. He does a great job being an outside guard dog, that’s definitely the Great Pyrenees in him. He loves to work and play. He has a ton of energy.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Story
This is Kit, she’s a Doberman/Great Pyrenees mix born approximately 9/29/22.  Kit has fully acclimated to our home, as a foster, after 13 months here. She has done well at adoption events, curiously sniffing people & enjoying pets. She will always be timid with new people, but is definitely settling in more quickly now that she is gaining confidence. She will cautiously sniff new people & approach, but it will take her a bit to truly invite attention.  She also is responding to the “come” command to get her leash or harness on, where a few months ago, she would run away from the leash the minute it came out.  We moved her kennel, so had a bit of challenge re-orienting her to it, but she still goes in easily & is quiet when there.  If Kit had her way, she would be outside all the time, she LOVES running outside & would do amazing with a dog or two to run around with and a fenced in yard-preferably a privacy fence. She is very dog friendly, but does give cues when she is tired or has a favorite toy/bone. She has started to be a bit dominant when first meeting new dogs, so slow introductions on a leash is best! She would do best with a large fenced in yard, as she wears herself out pretty quickly doing laps. She does have a high prey drive so no cats, birds, rabbits or other small pets. We have chickens and she's VERY interested in them. She comes when called "inside" & knows the "kennel" command. She eats in her kennel & has never made a peep when in it during my work hours. She does bark at most of the passerby's outside on the busy sidewalk, as we live just down from a school, so there is lots of foot traffic. She REALLY likes sleeping in bed with us, but that is a rare occasion. She is getting more snuggly on the couch too & really loves attention, when she is ready for it.  She has recently started laying as close to people as possible on the couch or bed & will roll over for belly rubs.  Due to her cautious nature, older, respectful kids would be best. She will take time and patience to adjust in a new environment but when she does the little things will reward you tenfold. She's been in rescue long enough and would love a home of her own.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 6, 2024, 10:09 am

Story
Parker is a purebred or mixed Great Pyrenees, thought to be approximately 1.5 years old. Great Pyrenees are not fully grown until they are 2 so he might still get a bit larger (it does seem like he is still growing into his long legs). Going up and down stairs has been a challenge but he is getting better at it every day! Parker is a complete sweetheart and loves to snuggle. We have been crating him at night and aside from just 2 accidents, potty training is going well. He loves to follow and play with our resident Great Pyrenees and has also gotten along very well with one of our neighbor's dogs. He is quiet - we have only heard a couple of 'big boy' barks. He does well on a leash and already knows how to sit! Parker seems to be happiest when he is lying down next to his favorite people, or really anyone who gives him attention and pets.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $350 plus taxHello, my name is Bob! I’m an 85 pound, 1 yr 3-month old Great Pyrenees x Saint Bernard mix. I love going to stores like Fleet Farm and Home Depot for visiting and training. While I’m out and about I love meeting new people and children especially if they give me treats! I'm a huge fan of couch cuddles, paw rubs, and looking out the window at squirrels.  I’m fully potted trained and proud to say I passed puppy and basic obedience class with flying colors.   I’m looking for an active family that has a fenced backyard so I can roam and spend lots of time in the sunshine.  I’m used to walking 1.5 to 3 miles daily and would love to continue that routine. I would also like a family that is home a lot and not gone for 7+ hours a day. I’m learning kennel training now and doing very well. I would prefer to be with a family that has a medium to large adult dog that is calm, or to be an only child. High-energy dogs make me nervous, and I don’t like that kind of high level of stimulation. I’m not a fan of cats even though I think they look like toys to play with. I may have a loud bark when I see a dog or bike rider outside my window, but I am very loyal and want to protect my family and let them know what I see. Even though I am very gentle with people and little children, I would like someone who has experience with my breed and is a good pack leader for me to follow. If you think I would be a great fit for your family I would love to meet you! Story
Howdy y'all, my name is Cowboy. My hobbies include sitting like a gentleman, keeping you company while you work, eating cheese, and pawing in puddles. I recently had ear canal surgery in one of my ears, so you will gave to speak clearly when telling me what a handsome boy I am. I am potty trained and kennel trained and love to nap all day. I can sit and am working on shake, but if you share your snacks, I am a fast learner.I love my people and will be a great companion. I prefer not to share food or toys, so I will need to be the Lone Ranger in your home. I’m about 6 years old and weigh 70 pounds, I’m basically a big couch potato. I can’t wait to ride off into the sunset with you!(Formerly known as Yeti)IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.October 6, 2024, 5:17 am
