Story
Beautiful Chance is big, beautiful, and strong. He is part Husky and part Wolf, He looks like a Wolf, He howls rather than bark. He has eyes that are Husky eyes, and two different colors. He loves to play fetch and walks well on a leash. He loves treats. He enjoys cold weather. He would be great protection. Chance will be sweet and loyal with the right owner. He needs someone who is patient, kind, and strong. Because of his size and strength we have not had him around children.

Story
If you're looking for a loving companion, Nola is your girl! She is a 3 yo mixed breed who has been a deeply loved member of our family since puppyhood. She is affectionate and gets along great with adults, children, & our other large dogs. Beyond being a sweet soul, she also is fully house-trained, smart, and learns quickly. Because Nola is such an amazing dog, our decision to rehome her has been incredibly difficult. This decision is due to a recent incident involving one of our cats. After peacefully living with our cats for years, it appears Nola has developed a strong prey drive toward small animals. Recently, when another dog chased one of our cats, Nola reacted to the fast movement as prey rather than recognizing our cat as her housemate. We love her deeply, but we must prioritize the safety of our resident cats. Nola deserves a home where she can be loved for exactly who she is, a big-hearted, loyal companion who simply needs a small-animal-free environment to thrive.

Story
Meet Tum Tum — a low-maintenance smaller dog who is looking for a chauffeur/forever family to drive him around town and help write the next chapter of his life: “Driving Mr. Tummy.” While some dogs are fixated on their ball or their daily walk, Tum Tum’s all-consuming obsession is the car. He would sit in the passenger seat all day long if he could.  Tum Tum is approximately three years old, has only three legs, and is the perfect small to medium size at just 33 lbs. He is a mix of 19 different breeds according to his breed test — an equal mix of small and large breeds. Chihuahua (15 percent) and Husky (14 percent) were the top two breeds. He’s potty trained, crate trained and not destructive. He gets along with other dogs, enjoys the company of children and is completely neutral around cats. Tum Tum can be leery of men he does not know, but he loves his foster dad. It’s important that any man in the home wants to spend time with Tum Tum to develop a good relationship.  Tum Tum is calm and well-behaved when he’s on a leash, but short walks are more his speed. Tum broke his front leg as a younger dog. Sadly it was never properly fixed, and it had to be amputated. Tum Tum is looking for a home with a fenced yard so he can enjoy sitting outside. He doesn’t need a super active family, just someone who likes to take him on car rides occasionally. He does seem to do better with another dog in the home, but depending on the situation, he could be fine as an only dog. Please apply today if you can give Tum Tum his perfect forever home. Car rides are a must! Story
Meet Bavo — a gentle-giant puppy who would be the perfect family dog! Bavo is a super people-oriented pup who adores all people — including children. Put him in a room full of dogs and one person, and he will go straight for the person, even if he’s never met them before. He loves to snuggle up real close, give kisses and then roll over for belly rubs. Bavo and his six siblings were born at the end of January and found their way to a loving foster home at one week old. They were handled and loved by humans since they were tiny pups and that shows in their extra-loving dispositions today. Bavo truly has those lazy big-dog vibes already and he’s not even five months old yet. He was approaching 30 pounds at 14 weeks old on May 7, which puts him on track to be a very large dog. He may be very friendly, but he is also calm and gentle. He tires out easily and will find a cool spot to relax after a play session with his puppy friends. Take him on a walk and he will be ready for a nice long nap. He’s well on his way to being a couch potato! We’ve labeled Bavo as a German Shepherd mix. His sibling’s DNA test came back 58% German Shepherd. Bavo is fully potty trained and working on crate training and walking on a leash. He’s very intelligent, treat motivated and eager to please his human. Bavo and his sister Gretel are the last of a litter of seven. The other siblings are getting rave reviews in their new forever homes. They’ve done well in homes with others dogs and in homes with small children. We hope two more forever homes will come along soon for these very deserving and loving puppies. Story
Cookie 🍪 Born at the end of November, Cookie is an adorable Terrier/Husky mix with the cutest feature of all — she is all ears! This sweet girl is growing fast and soaking up the world around her with curiosity and excitement. Cookie is an amazing puppy who is full of playful energy and always ready for her next adventure. Whether it’s exploring the backyard, going for a walk, or playing with her dog friends, she’s happiest when she’s on the move. Because of her energetic personality, she would thrive with an active family who can keep her mind and body busy. She does well with other dogs and would love a playful canine sibling to wrestle and run with. She’s curious about cats and may do well with proper introductions and guidance. Cookie would also be a great fit for a family with kids who can match her fun-loving spirit. Like any young pup, she’s still working on potty training and learning her manners, but she’s eager to please and ready to continue learning with her forever family. If you’re looking for a loyal, adventurous, and playful best friend with the most expressive ears around, Cookie might be your perfect match! 🐾 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.cognitoforms.com/DixieGirl1/PetAdoptionApplicationForm2 Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Story
Dog was found at the Gardendale Dog Park. Had him scanned on two occasions, no chip. Put out a social media campaign to find his owners but no one has come forth. Also I have been unable to find anyone willing to adopt him. I had his hook worms treated and a vet visit. He was started on heartworm/flea & tick prevention. I also had a microchip added to him for the new owners to register. Also had him groomed. He is a very adoptable pet although his breed typically steers people away. Huskies are one of a kind and it takes special owners to know how to care for them. I’ve not found anyone willing to take that chance. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is indifferent with other dogs his size but unsure how he would do with smaller dogs/cats, or kids.

Story
Thank you for your interest in adopting Ella! Ella was surrendered to a local vet veterinarian. The owner said she wasn't good with the new small dog in their home. The vet said Ella was there first. She was in boarding for two months when our vet asked if we could find her a foster and get her out of the clinic. She'll be 4 years old this summer and weighs 60-65 pounds and won't grow larger. Ella has done well with the dogs she lives with, including dogs at the dog park. She lives in a home with cats that are kept separate from the dogs. Foster Mom thinks she could chase a cat. Ella is house trained and crate trained. She enjoys leash walks around her Foster's neighborhood and hiking on the weekends. She's great on trails and she loves to cool off in a creek. If you have an active home life that includes your dog or you are an active person, Ella could be a good fit for you. She's not a couch potato, but she does know how to settle. She has not lived with young children that we are aware, so we are going to recommend school age kids or teenagers. Ella's Adoption includes Spay, rabies, other vaccines, microchip, dewormed, and receiving monthly parasite prevention.
