Story
Meet Spirit, a sweet boy who truly lives up to his name! Full of life, exuberance, and an undeniable zest for living, Spirit is ready to find the loving home he deserves.Spirit came to us from an overcrowded home where the dogs were living in crates. They were found thin and living in unsanitary conditions, without regular access to clean bedding, adequate food, or fresh water.Since coming into our care, Spirit has made wonderful progress. He has gained weight, built confidence, learned to sit, and absolutely loves getting pets and affection. Watching him blossom has been incredibly rewarding.Because of his past, it’s likely that Spirit missed out on the socialization he needed as a young dog. Undersocialized dogs can feel uncomfortable or unsure when meeting new people, experiencing unfamiliar places, or navigating new situations. Spirit will need an adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to help him continue building confidence at his own pace. His ideal person will be patient, compassionate, and excited to continue his training using positive reinforcement. A gentle approach, consistency, patience, and a good sense of humor will be the keys to helping Spirit succeed. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion who is eager to learn, loves affection, and has so much love to give.Spirit is looking for someone who will give him the time and understanding he needs to shine. Once he trusts you, he’ll be your snuggle buddy forever!

Story
Meet Midnight, a beautiful girl who is looking for a loving home and a patient adopter who will give her the time she needs to feel safe and confident.Midnight came to us from an overcrowded home where the dogs were living in crates. They were found thin and living in unsanitary conditions, without regular access to clean bedding, adequate food, or fresh water.Since coming into our care, Midnight has made wonderful progress. However, she still exhibits behaviors that indicate she experiences some fear and uncertainty when meeting new people or encountering unfamiliar environments. Given her history, it is likely that Midnight missed out on important socialization as a young dog. Undersocialized dogs can feel uncomfortable or unsure when meeting new people, experiencing unfamiliar places, or navigating new situations. For Midnight, patience and understanding will be especially important as she continues learning that the world can be a safe place.Midnight will need an adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let her build confidence at her own pace. Her ideal person will be patient, compassionate, and excited to continue her training using positive reinforcement. A gentle approach, consistency, patience, and a good sense of humor will be the keys to helping Midnight succeed.Midnight may also benefit greatly from having a confident, well-socialized dog as a role model. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that she go to a home with another dog who can help show her the ropes and provide companionship as she continues to grow in confidence.Midnight has already come so far, and with the right person by her side, we believe she has so much more potential to blossom. She just needs someone willing to see the beautiful, loving girl underneath her uncertainty—and give her the time and support she deserve

Looking for an experienced dog owner who can take in my buddy Poe! I’ve just begun school full time and can see how my schedule is not allowing me to give Poe the time and commitment he needs. Ideally Poe would be better suited for someone with more space for him to roam, I’ve trained him quite a bit (heel command, wait, break command, etc) but he’ll need that reinforced more as he gets older. Poe is not up to date on shots but im willing to coordinate with prospective adopters to get him up to date.

Story
Meet Sky. At about a year and a half old, Sky is a beautiful girl with a zest for life that`s impossible to resist! Whether she`s chasing after a ball, exploring the great outdoors, or soaking up attention from her favorite people, Sky tackles every day with boundless enthusiasm and a constantly wagging tail. If you`re looking for a fun-loving adventure buddy, Sky is ready to be your sidekick. This energetic girl would thrive with an active family that can keep up with her playful spirit. She`ll happily join you for hikes, long walks, backyard games, or any adventure that lets her stretch her legs and spend time with the people she loves. After a day of fun, she`s more than happy to relax and enjoy some well-deserved affection. Sky is looking for a home where she can be the center of attention. She does not enjoy the company of other dogs and will need to be the only dog in the household. She may also do best in a home without young children, as she can become a little mouthy when she`s excited. With positive reinforcement, continued training, and an understanding family, Sky has all the potential to be an incredible companion. If you`re searching for a loyal, active best friend who will bring excitement, laughter, and unconditional love into your life, Sky is ready to make every day an adventure by your side.Sky has joined our extended stay club, meaning her adoption fee is lowered and adopters will receive a post-adoption training reimbursement plus six months of heartworm and flea & tick prevention to help get their new best friend off to a great start.Apply today at: capeannanimalaid.org/dogapp

Story
We rescued him from Long Meadow, and he is around 2.5 years old. He is a very sweet, loving, playful, and loyal boy with lots of energy. He is extremely active and would do best with an active household that can give him plenty of exercise and attention. He is also a great escape artist and can easily clear a 4-foot fence, so a secure yard is a must. We have two other huskies, and although he is the youngest, he tends to be the dominant one. He gets along with dogs of all sizes, including small dogs, but slow introductions are recommended. We are unsure about cats. He is very curious about squirrels and bunnies and will try to chase them. He is not fully house-trained because he currently has easy access to our backyard whenever he needs to go. He is up to date on his vaccinations and receives Simparica Trio monthly. He would be a wonderful companion for an active, patient family, preferably one familiar with huskies or other high-energy dogs.

Story
Can you even believe how handsome this good boy is? His looks are only surpassed by his sharp mind, adoration of snuggles and deep loyalty to his humans. Zappa enjoys basking in the sun, doing training and tricks (wait till you see his response to “where’s your belly?”!!!), and ending his day with ample couch cuddles. All he wants is to bring joy to his dearest people and be the best boy. Sometimes other dogs and cats get in the way of that so Zappa prefers life as an only pet and doesn’t like meeting new dogs on walks. He’ll do best in a home with a fenced in yard (or in a rural setting) and in a home without small children (thus why we are very sadly needing to rehome this beloved boy!). While Zappa loves being right near his humans when they are home, he also enjoys quiet time alone. And speaking of quiet… Zappa’s arch nemeses are fireworks and other loud sounds (probably thanks to those big beautiful ears!) so he will be a great match for a family that also enjoys a quieter
