Story
Jerry is a 4 month old, 10lb jack russell terrier dachshund mix from Alabama. This southern boy sure is a charmer! He has won the hearts of every new friend he has met at his foster’s home in Brooklyn. Jerry loves a good chew toy, playing with anything and everything, and has learned how to walk on a leash quickly! He might not know his name just yet however, he does respond to “no” and understands hand movements when asked to come.
This little sweetheart has figured out going poop outside however, he is still working on consistently going pee outside. He is somewhat fearful of loud noises, dogs walking by on the street, and people running past him. To help with this, his foster mom is taking him outside for short periods of time every hour. When his foster sister needs to go on a walk, Jerry sits pretty in a sling. When he cannot be fully supervised, Jerry hangs out in his crate. He also sleeps next to his foster mom in his crate at night. Jerry doesn’t love it when he is in the crate and can’t see his foster mom, but he has made so much progress in getting comfy when inside the crate since being fostered that we’re sure this will get better with more time. In the interim, his foster is leaving him alone for a few minutes a day to start building his tolerance to being alone.
Jerry is looking for a forever family that has lots of time to help him learn how to be a confident young man. His ideal parent would work from home, live on a quiet street and in a quiet home, and be excited to help him blossom into the confident dog we know he is! Bonus points if you have a backyard or private outside space. He is an active puppy and would love to go to a home where people will play with him periodically throughout the day.
During the day, this snuggly boy can be found in his foster mom’s lap (laps are his FAVORITE!), playing with toys on his own or with his foster mom, and zonking out in his crate. He is currently in a home with a middle aged greyhound who he is interested in, but still isn’t entirely comfortable with. Jerry seems to respond well to mid-sized dogs and small dogs. If you are interested in adopting Jerry and have a dog already, intentional introductions are the key to his success.
We would recommend that Jerry go to a home that does not have very young children due to his noise reactivity. Jerry also still has his baby teeth and his new family should be prepared to help him learn to not be mouthy!
Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, lepto, and bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Flea/tick and heartworm prevention due xx/xx.
