Story
The cuteness of this puppy’s face renders her completely irresistible! Meet Sushi Wasabi - or Sushi for short - a 2 year old, 10-pound Jack Russell Terrier/Rat Terrier mix, who is insanely adorable, ridiculously friendly, and over-the-top sweet. Sushi is 100% housebroken, pad trained, and walks like a champ on a leash. She likes the outdoors, she seems to travel well, and she does not bark much at all. She is terrific around humans, as well as other dogs, and shares her possessions and personal space with total ease. Sushi knows her name and understands the word no. She’s very responsive to treats, so expanding her vocabulary should be a real breeze. Extremely affectionate, Sushi is a big fan of cuddling and she loves being pet. However, if you need some alone time, she is happy to oblige. Sushi is very outgoing and wants to make friends with everybody, but she doesn’t come on strong, nor will she ever crowd you. If she wants to play with another dog who may not be in the mood, Sushi knows enough to walk away and let it go. This little angel dog just gets it! Sushi’s size makes her super portable, and her rosy disposition makes her a hit with absolutely everyone. Sushi is a dream come true and will be an amazing gift to the lucky person(s) who adopts her. Lulu -  1 year, 11lbs, Terrier Mix, Spayed  Want to adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Cal - 6 months old, 10lbs, Terrier Mix, Neutered Estimated full grown size: About 13lbs Their Foster Parent Says: "Meet Cal. Cal is doing great! He’s super smart, calm, and adapting quickly to his new temporary home. He loves being near me or my husband, and when we leave the room, he’ll bark a bit for our attention. He just wants to be where people are. He thrives on routine: he eats three times a day, gets a treat after every meal, and we take him on several walks a day as we work on weaning him off wee-wee pads and helping him become fully potty-trained. Cal enjoys playing with toys, although he’s still figuring out how to interact with humans during the play – he’ll usually play a little, then curl up for a nap. He has a favorite chew that keeps him busy, but as he’s a puppy he needs supervision – he once tried to chew my laptop charger. He’s also made great progress socially. At first, he didn’t like being picked up or leashed and would playfully run laps around the kitchen island to avoid us. Now, he lets me pick him up easily. In the evenings, he cuddles with me while we watch TV – and we’ve noticed he sometimes watches the screen, which makes us think he had a TV on in his previous home. Cal is a rare little guy – so clam and sweet-natured for a puppy. He’s already showing signs of being a wonderful companion, and I truly believe that anyone lucky enough to adopt him will see him continue to thrive and reveal just how intelligent and loving he really is." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy levelMEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Crate trained?Nope. None of our new puppies have been formally trained, but many of our foster parents/adopters choose to crate train. It can be a great way to keep puppies safe and teach them independence. Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash manners:None. :) Will need to learn this skill.   Separation anxiety:MEDIUM: Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer uponHow this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. Story
Maddie - 3 years, 24lbs, Terrier Mix, Spayed  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Our Team Says: "Maddie would definitely do best in a quieter environment - Brooklyn, Queens, or the suburbs. She is currently in BK - and LOVING her life as a BK girl." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Maddie is a total dreamboat, turnkey girl. She is fully housebroken, walks amazing on a leash, doesn't bark and loves everyone. She is an absolute doll and loves snuggling on the couch or bed next to you anytime she can. She is very chill in the house but does need a few walks (about 20 minutes) a day to go to the bathroom and relieve some energy. When left home alone, she’s a perfect angel. Maddie has one vice though: she’s a hoarder of stuffed animals. You’ll find her collecting her "babies" on the couch but otherwise your shoes, furniture, and personal belongings are completely safe. Maddie has been living with a small senior pup who she respects that he does not want to play, ever. She understands boundaries and doesn't even retaliate to dogs who bark at her on the street, she will just run peace out the other way. I imagine she would be a great companion to any other dogs or cats given her gentle demeanor.Maddie is SO SMART and within a couple weeks has learned “come” and “no” and “nice” (which we use on the occasion her walk gets too exciting). She is super quiet, but a great communicator who will give you a little whimper to let you know she needs water or to go outside. Maddie was a bit skittish in the city but she’s settling into Brooklyn life like she was born for it. She’s been to restaurants and patios, where she sits politely and doles out sweet little hand kisses to anyone who pets her hello. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, high-sweetness pup who will fill your days with snuggles, Maddie is the one for you!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Cuddle Bug Level High -- Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time  - She definitely needs to be in a home where she is allowed on a couch as that in her mind is her dog bed. Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents  Comfy with strangers? Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) Yes for all ages -- very gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy  Social with Other Dogs? Yes -- Good with all other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines. Has been getting along great with my 14 year old Brussels Griffon. Understands boundaries that he has no interest in playing with her.  Also meets dogs on the street with no issues. When dogs bark at her she always runs away vs retaliating.  Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.) Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested  Mouthy Behavior? Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones. She looooves stuffed animal toys. So as long as anything that might be mistaken for one (i.e. a crocheted hat lol), she doesn't chew on anything.  Leash Manners? Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.  Okay in the city? Sort of -- Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust. When I picked her up in the East Village she was very skittish but loves living in East Williamsburg. I think it's the right mix of mostly quiet with some noise. She does well when she isn't constantly bombarded with sounds of the city. Jumping on People to Say Hi? Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. When I pick up my dog she will jump a few times because she wants to be picked up next. She understands boundaries and when I tell her "no" (trying to keep commands simple) she knows not to jump anymore.  Separation Anxiety? Low – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house. I've had no problems leaving her at home for up to 4-5 hours at a time though alone and/or with my pup. Crate training? N/A Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Story
Meet Imp! He is lovely girl rescued by our team from High-kill shelter in Korea. She gave birth to his babies in the shelter. Behaviours from the previous foster: She is so gentle that she doesn’t bark at all and doensn’t have any aggressive behaviours. She loves walking and meeting her friends and She loves her hooman so much. She likes to be pat - especially on her butt – and always sleeps besides her hooman. She is doing her job out doors- moving her bowels. She is not a big fan of showering but she seems to bear it- She is so patient. We haven’t found any separation anxieties so far, She seems to be beyond happy when the owners come back home though. She is a little bit timid that she is afraid of some scary noise like vacuum cleaner, plastic bottle and so on. She has so much love in her. Be her loving family and she will be with you and adores you forever. Allergy/health issues: She has motion sickness. So It will help her if you let her doing her job_moving her bowels_ and keep her stomach empty before gettinng a car. *Please send all inquiries to @everlove8282. *Please submit your applications through the application form on our Instagram profile! Our team will carefully consider each of your applications to find the perfect forever homes for our dogs. *As all of our dogs are currently in South Korea, there will be an adoption fee of 700USD + customs fee (if applicable) for each dog. —> all details are on the poster!
Thomas. Story
Marilyn, a 5-year-old, 13-pound female rat terrier/chi mix, is a cuddle monster. She has adjusted well to city life after leaving San Diego. She flew to NYC back in February to help make space in the shelters for the LA dogs displaced by the fires. She has the most beautiful light brown eyes that will remain trained on her chosen human. She is loyal loving girl who loves any and all treats. She has learned to “sit” as long as there are treats involved. When home with her human, she must be touching you. She may bark once or twice when her human leaves the house but settles down very quickly and is fine until they return. She would do well in a home with another adult dog, as she suffers from solo dog separation anxiety. While she prefers being with her humans, the presence of another dog seems to soothe her. You must pay the belly rub tax when you leash her up and clean her paws. She does great on a leash and appears to be house trained.  Marilyn has a large bald patch on her back and tail. Her fur has begun to slowly grow back but  her forever family will want to keep an eye on this and make sure that her skin continues to improve. She is received a dental and had  a couple teeth extracted.  It appears she has had many babies in the past…and does not enjoy the energy of puppies. Who can blame her! She seems intrigued by the sounds of cats on TV but that remains untested.  View Marilyn in action Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, lepto, and bordetella. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Marilyn, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Story
**Located in Korea** Meet Puss and Boots, a brave and charming dog with a heart of gold! Puss and Boots had a tough start in life, rescued from a dangerous snare that left his paws injured. This experience left him with deep trauma, and he's understandably sensitive about anyone touching his remaining paws, however he is completely healed from his injury physically and can walk and run and play just like any other active dog! We are looking for a special family for Puss and Boots – one that understands the importance of patience and giving him the time he needs to adjust to a new environment. With the right love and care, we believe Puss and Boots can blossom into the confident and happy dog he was always meant to be. Despite his past hardships, he is a truly lovable and friendly companion. He captures the hearts of everyone he meets with his irresistible charm. We would love to keep in touch with his new family and hear about his progress in the future. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a courageous and affectionate dog, then Puss and Boots is waiting to embark on a new adventure with you. Give him the chance he deserves to experience love, safety, and happiness once again. Adopt Puss and Boots and be a part of his extraordinary journey!
