Abigail (AKA Abba-daba-ding-dong, Abracadabra, and—most importantly—Abigail the Perfect!) is a fun-loving, young dog who has decided that life is much better when you approach it with enthusiasm, a dog friend, and approximately 47 toys. After arriving at a local shelter a little shy and unsure, she quickly discovered that people are pretty great and dog friends are AMAZING. Now she’s ready to find a home where she can keep having fun while continuing to grow into the wonderful adult dog she’s meant to be.
Play is Abigail’s highest priority. Her foster mom describes her as one of the few dogs she’s seen successfully multitask while playing. Abigail can chew on a stuffed toy while simultaneously kicking a wobble ball around the yard. And when a ball is involved, her inner herding champion comes out. She has no idea where that ball needs to go, but she is absolutely determined to get it there. Her foster mom calls this “wrecking ball time,” which pretty much sums up the gleeful chaos Abigail creates when she gets going.
Abigail LOVES other dogs and believes every dog she meets is simply a future best friend who hasn’t realized it yet. She loves wrestling, chasing, and generally encouraging her canine friends to keep the party going. She can be persistent and mouthy during play, so she’ll do best with a playful dog who appreciates an enthusiastic playmate and knows how to set boundaries. Add water, and Abigail is in heaven. Swimming, hunting for toys in a pool, and coming home just a wee bit muddy (okay - very muddy!) sounds like her idea of the perfect day.
Adventures? Abigail is IN. She loves car rides and has already enjoyed shopping trips to several stores. She occasionally tries to leave with merchandise because she has yet to develop an understanding of the concept of purchasing things, so her humans will need to keep an eye on her retail ambitions. She also enjoys helping with household chores, following her foster mom around and providing thorough inspection services. No task is too small for Abigail’s helping paws.
A fenced yard would be ideal for this girl because Abigail has discovered that leashes and harnesses are surprisingly chewable. She’s working on this habit, but she is definitely not a dog who should be trusted on a tie-out. On walks, she can pull and does best with a harness, but her joy of simply being with you is evident. She knows sit, down, and shake and is eager to keep learning. With her intelligence, enthusiasm, and “let’s do something!” attitude, she could have a blast trying dog sports with her person.
Abigail is house-trained and crate-trained, although she occasionally holds choir practice from her crate, so a home without shared walls would probably be the best fit. She has generally good house manners but, like many adolescents, occasionally needs reminders that shoes are not toys.
She also enjoys people and seems to like kids. Older children are likely to be the best fit simply because Abigail is still an adolescent with some developing spatial awareness and occasional playful mouthiness. She can be a bit of a bull in a china shop when she gets excited. Her feelings about cats are less certain. She has seen cats and behaved appropriately, but her instinct may be to chase, and her enthusiastic play style probably won't be appreciated by most feline roommates.
If your idea of the perfect dog involves adventure, playtime, canine friends, car rides, dog sports, and a little bit of delightful chaos, Abigail may be your missing piece.
