Fergus was left in a city pound by his owner because "he has too much energy for me". Well truth be told, Fergus is just a puppy at 11 months old and all puppies are very playful and energetic. Fergus is actually a blend on play, chill and is very social. He gets along with people and other dogs. We do not know what he thinks about cats. He does well in car rides and mostly just lays down. This handsome boy has a very Labby head and curly hair on his back. Fergus is about 50 pounds. Please help Fergus find the loving home he deserves. Update: Fergus tested positive for Ehrlicchia, another common tick borne disease similar to Lyme's. He has already completed his short course of antibiotic. Fergus is feeling great and is available to go home with you! We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Edith and Winnie are Labby sisters from a litter of nine "oops" puppies. Mom is a doodle who had a spay appointment, but the neighbor's Lab mix boy came a'callin' one evening and well, you know the story. The puppies were very loved and well fed, but are shy at first but do warm up to attention. They are walking great on a leash and are learning simple commands. Sadly, the owners, a retired couple in their 70s, waited till the puppies were 14 weeks old to decide that they couldn't keep them all. The girls have been around children, dogs and cats and would acclimate well to a family with a nice fenced yard. They both sleep in a crate at night. Edith is about 8 months old and 34 pounds. Please help Edith find the loving home she deserves. We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Teddy is friendly, loving, and social with just about everyone—dogs, kids, adults, men, women, and even the elderly. He’s a happy, well-rounded pup who fits right into any household that’s ready for snuggles, playtime, and lots of love. Teddy is a big cuddle bug who absolutely melts for affection. If you’re petting him, he’s in heaven—he loves belly rubs, head scratches, and will happily curl right up next to you. He’s equally enthusiastic about toys and can keep himself entertained for hours, especially with something fun to chew. This sweet boy has excellent training under his belt thanks to a board-and-train program. He walks beautifully on leash with his prong/e-collar, knows a long list of commands (Sit, Down, Leave It, Wait/Stay, Go to Place, Go to Crate, Go Potty, Calm Down, Safety, Drop It), and picks up new skills fast. He’s crate trained, house trained, and travels well in the car. Teddy isn’t a resource guarder and doesn’t have any known sensitivities—he’s easygoing, cooperative, and great with handling. Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs. Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. Lisee is 8 years old (she’ll be 9 at the end of January) and was adopted from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare center when she was 3 months old. She’s a 52-pound mix of Lab Retriever, Beagle, and Siberian Husky. Lisee is sweet, gentle, well-behaved, playful, and loves to snuggle. She loves her daily walks and does well if she has to be left home alone during the day. She’s good with other dogs and kids (I have never seen her interact with cats but I have a feeling she’d do well with them too). Lisee is healthy and the only medication she takes is her monthly heartworm/flea/tick tablet and glucosamine, which doesn’t require a prescription and which we order from Amazon.
