Story
Matthew - 1 year, 49lbs, Sheepadoodle, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required: INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Thier Foster Parent Said: "Matthew is a total "people person" who decides you are his best friend the second he meets you. He’s the ultimate companion and loves to be in whatever room you’re in and snuggles up next to you, but what’s really impressive is how well he’s handled the chaos of New York. He’s completely unfazed by city noise—sirens, crowds, and hallway sounds don't bother him one bit, and he’s a surprisingly quiet guy who rarely barks. Even when you head out, he’s great on his own; he might whimper at the door for a minute or two, but he settles down quickly. On walks, Matthew is a social butterfly who is incredibly gentle with every dog he meets, though he does still have plenty of puppy energy. He’ll be a wonderful project for someone with a bit of patience who is willing to put in the time for leash training, as he still pulls and gets very focused on birds and other small animals. He’s at his best with a long walk in the morning and midday to burn off some of that steam. When he’s not out exploring, he’s usually busy "destructing" a toy (don't worry, he just likes the ripping part, he doesn't actually eat the stuffing!). Because he’s still learning his manners, he can be a bit mouthy or rough when he wants attention, but he’s super smart and we think he’ll be a fast learner with the right boundaries. He’s also had a couple of accidents, so he needs a routine where he’s taken out shortly after meals and given a little extra time to linger in his favorite spots until he goes. He’s truly just a big, sweet baby and anyone who adopts him will be so lucky!" TOLERANCE TO CITYCity pup – Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, may as well have been born here. He’s not bothered by noises and has started being less interested in people walking by but still tries to pull towards dogs and sees a LOT of them on any walk we go on since we’re in the village. He also gets super excited by pigeons. POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidents; has had a handful of accidents COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSSocial butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Not a match for a home with little kids – This pup is either mouthy and rambunctious and needs grownups willing to do training or too easily stressed by/sensitive to kid energy and requires a low key, quiet homeMatthew is VERY mouthy when he plays and often stretches the limits of what is acceptable play in terms of nipping. He also uses his paws very forcefully and seems to not know how big of a boy he is. SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines He’s obsessed with other dogs and wants to pull to them/play with them. He never barks at them but sometimes charges at them or swats at them playfully. I’m honestly not sure if that’s good behavior or expected of his age. RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc.  MOUTHY BEHAVIORNeeds training – Is either still in the puppy stage or was never trained. Tries to put their mouth on your hands when playing or needs attention, grabs leash, chews on your personal belongings  SEPARATION ANXIETYDoing Great – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise.  LEASH MANNERSGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction.  CUDDLE BUG LEVELMedium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed  JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOListens to correction – Only jumps on people they know when really excited, stops with correction. CRATE TRAININGNot at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2663796##

Story
Hello! My name is Kirby. I’m a 5-year-old doodle mix weighing about 51 pounds, with a confident stride and a happy-go-lucky attitude. I know who I am, and I move through the world with a friendly, upbeat energy that makes people smile. I’m playful, social, and always ready to join in on whatever’s happening around me. I’m good with other dogs and wouldn’t mind having some canine friends around. I am looking for a home without young kids, where things are a little calmer and more predictable for me. That kind of environment helps me relax and be my best self. I’m not shy or unsure — I’m confident, curious, and comfortable being part of a routine. What I’m looking for is a forever home that wants a fun, friendly companion who already knows how to enjoy life. I’m past the puppy chaos but still playful and full of personality. If you’re looking for a dog who will bring energy, joy, and confidence into your home, I might just be the one for you! Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://www.anewchancear.org/adopt/our-adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://www.anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
Meet Huck, the lovable 8 year-old, 80-pound goofball who's sure to steal your heart! This big, friendly boy is a total lovebug and thrives on human companionship. In fact, he'd be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the day because he enjoys being close to his people. Huck is quite the charmer with his playful spirit, always ready for a game of Fetch or showing off his leash skills on a walk. He's crate and housetrained, and he absolutely adores his toys. Huck also enjoys the company of other dogs, though he would have to meet any potential doggie siblings to make sure they’re a match! With his long legs and energetic nature, Huck dreams of an active home with plenty of room to stretch out and run around. But when playtime is over, he's all about snuggling up close and getting belly rubs. Who wouldn't love curling up with this pup on a chilly night? Despite his joyful, goofy personality, Huck has been with EHR for over four years, waiting for that perfect match. He's microchipped, neutered, and up-to-date on his vaccines. If you're ready to welcome a loyal, silly companion into your home, fill out an adoption application at EHRDOGS.ORG and be sure to mention his name, HUCK BAILEY! Story
Meet Lucky! Lucky is a 10 year old Labrador Retriever/Cattle Dog mix who was sadly surrendered to a kill shelter after his former family decided they could no longer care for him. Despite this rough beginning, Lucky remains a deeply affectionate dog who bonds quickly and loves his people unconditionally. After several years at our kennel, we are hoping that his luck turns around and someone sees him for the amazing dog that he truly is and offers him a forever home. Lucky is incredibly eager to please and is fully housebroken. This handsome boy thrives on forming strong bonds with his owner and will be fiercely protective of both the household and those he loves, making him an excellent watchdog for a quiet home. His ideal family would have an experienced adult dog owner, and he'd do best as the only pet in the house. With boundless energy and playfulness, Lucky needs daily exercise and would thrive with a fenced-in yard. His affectionate nature shines through when he's given the chance to cuddle up with his family. He's also undergone training in leash manners and basic obedience, ensuring he's well-behaved and ready for his forever home. He’s a smart boy, who thrives on learning, and knows many commands such as sit, stay, down, paw, touch, and wait. Lucky is looking for a forever home to spend his twilight years - could it be with you? Lucky is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. If you want to give this sweet, loving boy the chance he deserves, apply at EHRDOGS.ORG and mention LUCKY HAVARD by name! Be the one to show Lucky what it means to be part of a truly loving family. Story
Moolah is a perfect little 36-lb sweetheart at just 2 years old- truly the ideal size! She arrived with her housemate Kash, a tiny Chihuahua mix, and has shown she can live happily with dogs of all sizes. She’s also wonderful with all people and previously lived with children of all ages. Moolah has already come such a long way. When first surrendered, she was too frightened to leave her kennel while Kash ventured outside. But with the help of a caretaker she bonded with, Moolah bravely took those first steps. As we spent time together in the interaction pen, she slowly came over for pets… and then rolled right onto her back for belly rubs. Seeing her relax and enjoy herself was pure joy. Her former owner described both girls as loving cuddle bugs, and Moolah is now showing that soft, affectionate side. She’s a sweet, beautiful girl ready to continue blossoming in a home of her own. Apply for Moolah at EHRDOGS.ORG (function () { // Only on animal detail pages if (!/\/animals\/detail/i.test(location.pathname)) return; // Debounce to avoid double-fire (touchend + click, etc.) var lastNavAt = 0; function toFullSize(url) { try { var u = new URL(url, location.href); u.searchParams.delete('width'); u.searchParams.delete('height'); return u.toString(); } catch (e) { return url || ''; } } function looksLikeAnimalPhoto(url) { return /\/pictures\/animals\/\d+\/\d+\/[^?#]+\.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)/i.test(url || ''); } function handler(e) { var el = e.target; if (!el) return; // Find the closest anchor or image in the click path var a = el.closest ? el.closest('a') : null; var img = el.closest ? el.closest('img') : null; var url = ''; // Prefer anchor href if it points to an animal photo if (a && a.getAttribute) { var href = a.getAttribute('href') || ''; if (href && (href.indexOf('/pictures/animals/') !== -1 || looksLikeAnimalPhoto(href))) { url = href; } } // Otherwise fall back to the image src if (!url && img && img.getAttribute) { var src = img.getAttribute('src') || ''; if (src && (src.indexOf('/pictures/animals/') !== -1 || looksLikeAnimalPhoto(src))) { url = src; } } if (!url) return; // Absolute URL + full-size version try { url = new URL(url, location.href).toString(); } catch (_) {} url = toFullSize(url); // Stop PrettyPhoto (and any other delegated click handlers) e.preventDefault(); e.stopPropagation(); if (e.stopImmediatePropagation) e.stopImmediatePropagation(); // Debounce var now = Date.now(); if (now - lastNavAt < 500) return; lastNavAt = now; // SAME TAB navigation to the full-size image location.href = url; } // Capture phase is the key: we get the event before PrettyPhoto.
