Story
A FUN & HAPPY-NATURED GIRL:  Approx. 1 year old / Approx. 54 lbs.  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and I’m in a great foster home, learning, and having fun! I’m looking for a family with a stay/work from home family member as I do need to be taken out to the potty more than some other dogs due to a congenital kidney defect which is easily managed!  I’m a typical happy young dog and don’t know that there’s anything wrong with me at all, so I want to be treated like a normal fun dog!  I’ll likely have a little shorter lifespan than some other dogs, but I’m living life to the fullest!  Maybe we can do that together?  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I just love playing with and palling around with the dogs in my foster home, but I have been known to hoard all the toys and time with my people so, if you have a laid-back dog already that would enjoy a friend and not mind my coveting all the toys and people, let’s meet! / I’m a bit too curious about the cat in my foster home so my foster thinks I’d do best in a home without a cat.  / I haven’t been around young kids, so if you have kids, let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over with my enthusiasm. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  My foster reports that I’m a great pup who will make a wonderful companion. I’m lovable, huggable, and sweet!  When I first went to my foster home, I would chew blankets and an occasional shoe, sock or oven mitt, but I mostly know what is mine now, so please make sure I have lots of hard toys and Nylabones. I am a little mouthy during play or when people try to pet my belly.  Please tell me to ‘leave it’ and avoid the belly . . . I like all the other pets.  Pretty much a Velcro dog, I like to be the pup to get the most attention and although not aggressive toward the other dogs, I will wiggle my way in between them and my people.  I’m an “in your face” type of loving girl, even staring during our conversations.  I love to explore my foster’s fenced back yard, happy to play with the other dogs or on my own – my foster says I’m a “treasure hunter” so maybe we can even make a game out of that.  I’m a pretty quiet girl, but have a deep alert bark if I hear unknown noises or people.  Playful, very active, silly and fun – I am sure to bring lots of love to my new family! / My energy level is approximately 7 - 8, so let’s make time for lots of play sessions or running or hikes. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I know the ‘sit’ and ‘down’ commands and will give a nice ‘shake’ and know the ‘go to your crate’ command.  I walk great on my leash and although alert during my walks, I don’t bark at or pull toward dogs. / I sleep in my crate at night and go in willingly. I do like a treat reward when I go in it, please. / I am taken out every 2 ½ hours or so during the day and my water is managed/limited to what works best for my kidneys and potty manners.  My foster will be happy to talk to you about this.  I have been going to the door to signal that I need to go potty and I’m doing great.  • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love spending time with people getting attention, playing, being gently hugged and rubbed. Balls and toys are great fun for fetching – though it is more like a game of ‘keep away’ or catch with my paws right now – lol.  I get really excited when I hear the ice machine . . . frozen treats!  I got to splash around in a lake recently and enjoyed that!  I also ride well in the car – let’s go on lots of adventures! / I don’t like the loud vacuum (what is THAT thing all about?), unexpected noises that make me a bit jumpy at times and the silly mop I try to bite.  I am good for my bath, but can’t wait for it to be over.  I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on my immunizations, micro-chipped and spayed. I eat Science Diet k/d dog food to help with my kidneys and have just had bloodwork done which shows that it’s really working!  The vet was so happy with the great results and so am I!   If you’re a stay/work from home family and want a great dog to be active with, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.    April 19, 2024, 7:21 am

Story
A LOVING GIRL LOOKING FOR MY MATCH:  Approx. 3 years old / Approx. 50 lbs. Hi, my name is Islay (eye-la)!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control after seemingly being on my own for a good bit before that. I am so happy to be safe and in a Mostly Mutts foster home. I’ve been spending time in between two wonderful foster homes, where I am learning what it means to be loved. I am now ready to meet my furever family! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I’m best buds with the little terrier in my foster home and he only weighs 10 lbs! When we are outside, we do zoomies in the back yard and spend time hanging out! There are two older dogs who will play with me from time to time, until they are worn out and need a nap. I think I would really enjoy having a fur sibling in my new home, so if you have a friendly doggie, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids while with Mostly Mutts, but I can be exuberant and active at times so older children would be best – no toddlers or small children that I might bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m super sweet, loving and enjoy being with my people and dog friends. Wherever they go, I follow! I enjoy being active and would be happiest with an active family that has the time to meet my energy level and support my quest to be a great housemate. I am mostly Labrador, and like many Labs, when I am left alone, I might sink my teeth into things that don’t belong to me! I have lots of chew toys and they keep me very busy. My current foster Mom crates me when she goes to the store. When she works in the yard, I love to run around and ‘help’ her!  I can’t wait to learn our new routine together and see what I can ‘help’ you with!  / My energy level is 6-8. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a smart girl who is very receptive to training and wants a family that enjoys training their dog. I have been attending Mostly Mutts training classes with my foster Mom. I know the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’ and ‘down’ commands as well as walk nicely on a leash!  I am a polite gal, asking your permission before jumping onto any furniture.  However, I also respond well to “off” if I put my paws on counters or climb on the furniture when not invited. / I’ve had good crate manners in my current foster home, going in willingly to sleep there at night. I usually put myself to bed before my foster Mom turns in for the night.  During the night, I enjoy relocating to the dog bed in my foster mom’s bedroom – this way we can be together as soon as she wakes up!  / I have very good potty habits in both of my foster homes.  A little whimper is my signal I need to go – and I take care of business quickly once I am outside.  • LIKES/DISLIKES:  In my foster homes, I’ve been treated to nice walks or hikes, and I think I would be a GREAT hiking (or running) partner for a family member who loves the outdoors.  It’s a wonderful way to be sure I get the important exercise I need, and we get to spend time together (which is my favorite thing), so – it’s a win-win!  I also enjoy wading in a creek, chasing balls in the yard - so a fenced yard would be wonderful, chew bones, carrots and Pup-Peroni treats (which I take politely).  Hanging out with my people for belly rubs, brushings and being loved on is my most favorite thing of all. / I don’t like strangers coming right up to me wanting to say hello. I prefer to observe before deciding if I want to go up to meet them. When I am out and about, I wear my jacket that says “Nervous Rescue – I Need Space.” I don’t like to spend too much time away from my people. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. In my foster homes, I’m just fine with being touched all over, restrained, having my nails trimmed, etc. However, I was very frightened for my vet appointment, so the vet recommends that I’m premedicated to help with that anxiety, likely muzzled too as I did get a little snappy when at the vet, but they could tell it was only out of fear, not aggression. I think if I got used to seeing one vet, I could build up my confidence with them and maybe vet visits wouldn’t be so frightening for me. I am looking for an experienced owner who is committed to training and will guide me as I overcome my anxiety and be the best companion I can be.  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.    April 19, 2024, 7:21 am
