Story
Kane is a 9 year old black lab (mix- I believe). Kane was taken in as a puppy from a farm where I never met or saw the parents/unsure of how he was raised in his beginning weeks! However, he is very loyal, protective, loving to his owners. With that being said he needs patience and guidance when being introduced to new people/new surroundings. He would be best in a home without kids or other animals and with owners who can work with him and be patient with him. He loves car rides, long walks, sunbathing on the porch, puppy cups, and any treat you can think of! As he has gotten older he has gotten more anxious about loud noises & things that once weren’t an issue like the FedEx truck. I am having a career shift & unfortunately worry about the long hours and the time I can give Kane! I’d love to connect with potential new homes for my boy!

Story
Hershey is an eight-year-old, 60-pound lab mix picked up by the shelter as a stray dragging a chain. He was thin and not in great shape, but he quickly made friends in the shelter, and they begged us to take him. They told us that he loved squeaky toys and balls, was treat-motivated, knew how to sit, lie down, stay, and shake, and was also good on a leash. He was lucky to find a great foster home and is doing well with their large senior female lab. If you want to adopt or foster to adopt Hershey, please click the “Adopt” button and submit an Adoption application. FROM THE FOSTER: If you’re looking for a loyal companion and a dog to keep you safe, Hershey is the guy for the job. He’s a very healthy seven-year-old, 70-pound neutered male. Fantastic in the house - perfectly house trained, can be left alone without being crated, knows commands like sit and stay. He likes to hang out with his people/people go for rides in the car, play ball, and be in a house with a female dog. Hershey was found as a stray dragging a chain. When he was fostered in a home where he was safe, warm, and fed, he realized he’d never had it so good, so he tended to want to guard his home from strangers. We can provide additional information about this. If you live a quiet life without many strangers coming over and want a loyal companion, please get in touch with us to learn more.  ##1132863##

Story
Star is a two-year-old, 30-pound lab mix that was picked up by the shelter. While she was seemingly in good shape with a shiny coat and good weight, her eyes were severely damaged, and she was terrified not to be able to see the barking dogs around her or know that she was safe from them. She stayed curled in a ball pressed against the chain link the whole time she was there. She dared not move from that spot because she didn't know what was around her. Once we got her to the vet, she did the same thing, curling up in a corner and not moving even to eat or go to the bathroom. Fortunately, We found a foster and got her into a quiet home. Unfortunately, as soon as she relaxed and trusted, it was time for her to go to the vet to be spayed. An exam of her eyes proved that she was blind, and her eyes were likely causing her great pain, so they were both removed. She is not comfortable with her blindness, and we are not sure what happened, but it is evident that she has not lived her life this way. Although scared, there is no aggression toward people or other dogs, and we think that another friendly dog to mentor her would be great. She spends her days on her bed, her safe space, and only moves to eat or potty, which she dutifully does on the "pee pads" in her room. Star has a challenging road ahead of her, but she is coming along well, and with some patience and time, she has so much potential to have a whole and happy life. If you want to nurture this girl along this new road, ALR will stand beside you and give you all the support needed.  If you want to adopt or foster to adopt Star, please click the "Adopt" button and submit an Adoption application. ##805877##

Story
Naboo is a three-year-old, 55-pound mix that was surrendered to the shelter because her owner had a new job and was traveling internationally. Poor Naboo was so frightened in the shelter. No wonder because the information from the owner indicated that she had lived in the same home most of her life. He said she was housebroken, didn’t chew or dig, and was good with kids and other dogs. Like at the shelter, she is overwhelmed and sad in boarding. While at the adoption day, she trembled the whole time. She misses her home and longs to return to a calm, quiet situation where she feels safe. If you want to adopt or foster to adopt Naboo, please click the “Adopt” button and submit an Adoption application. ##1705393##

Story
Hot Dog is a five-year-old, 50-pound lab mix found tied to a pole, where he had been for a week before someone realized he had been abandoned. His big smile would never lead you to believe that his life had ever been anything but good, and we’ll make sure that this time around, it will be. Hot Dog was boarded with our rescue partner in south GA for several weeks and was around other dogs, but since he’s been in a foster home, he’s decided he’d like to be an only dog and get all the attention. He will be a great companion dog. He is calm, sweet, attentive, and excellent in the house, whether you are there or not. He loves her fenced-in yard and can exercise and entertain himself, so he doesn’t need walks. Story
Nicolai is a five-year-old, 58-pound mix that was surrendered by his owner, who must have forgotten that he had a dog for the last five years when he moved to a place that didn’t allow dogs. How anyone could turn and see that face staring back from a kill shelter and still walk out the door is heartbreaking. The card the owner filled out said he was housebroken, didn’t chew, dig, or jump, was good with kids, cats, and dogs, and knew to sit and stay. Unfortunately, he has been pretty freaked out in a boarding situation and is not in the mood to mix and mingle, so he sits alone in his kennel. The one time we took him out to go to a new foster, he got so excited and worked up to be out of a cage that we had to return and get him a few minutes later. They didn’t have a fenced yard, and he needed to run around and wind down. He’s back in boarding, hoping someone will give him another chance. If you want to adopt or foster to adopt Nicolai, please click the “Adopt” button and submit an Adoption application. FROM THE FOSTER: Nicolai is such a sweet dog. Very affectionate. He will follow me from room to room but is also content to be in the same room if you are working. He is crate trained, house trained, and is working on walking on the leash. He loves to play fetch with a tennis ball and loves his Kong toy to chew and chase. He learns things quickly, like dropping the tennis ball outside before entering. He Loves the little treats we use for training but doesn’t seem aggressive around his food. Hasn’t chewed anything. Overall, a good boy! ##1731951##

Story
Meet Xander! Unfortunately, Xander has been diagnosed with heartworms and will be getting his first injection on August 10th (after 30 days of Doxycyline). Xander will need a foster home that can keep him calm during his treatment for 30 days. PLEASE, if you can step up for Xander, he'd be most grateful as he is currently in boarding. Xander is a male, neutered, 1.5 year old Weim/Lab Mix or possibly a Silver Lab that is transferring into our rescue from Sport Dogs Life Rescue hoping that we can find a great home for him! If you are looking for a perfect hiking companion, this is your guy! Xander is everything you'd want a young pup to be! He loves being outside and he loves to play with other dogs. He even tolerates the family cat! He is good with kids, but sometimes his exhuberance can be overwhelming, so he will need to learn some manners! He LOVES the water and can't help himself around a pool and wants to jump in and splash around! He's a youngster, so he needs an active family that will give him the exercise he needs and invest in some basic training so that he can be your best friend! Xander is up to date on vaccines & neutered! If you are interested in Xander, please send an application on our website at www.AtlantaLovesWeims.org

Story
Buddy is an 18 month old mixed breed dog. His owner could no longer keep him, so we agreed to foster him for a while. Our vet checked him out, got him caught up on his shots, and neutered him for us. He has no health issues. His two favorite things are playing tug-of-war when he is outside, and sleeping when he is inside. He is house broken and obedient when you tell him to go lay down. He has made his place in our breakfast nook and is happy to be confined there when we leave the house. He does not chew on shoes, furniture, etc. He doesn't really bark much. He does whine if he needs to go outside or if her wants some attention. He is a really good boy and we have grown to love him!! If we didn't already have 2 smaller dogs, we would just keep him.

Story
Smokey is a fun, curious, goofy, loving dog. He likes to play with anything outside, especially pine cones and twigs. He was rescued from a backyard breeder where he was infested with parasites from birth, malnourished, and neglected. We took him in and finally nursed him to health. Our local shelters are full, and we are relocating out of country where “bully breeds” are not allowed. The only reason he is marked not good with kids, is because he wouldn’t be suitable without training or separating when it comes to young kids due to his energetic personality. He LOVES kids. He LOVES any person. He has accidents in the house by the front door from time to time is he is not taken out in time, however he has proven he is kennel- broken unless his tummy has been upset. He is still recovering from being sick for the last 7 months, so feeding him easily digested foods is a must until he regulates his own bacteria in his stomach. Please give Smokey a forever home!

Story
Hyde is a sweet, playful 2 year old pure-bred yellow lab. We recently had a baby and while he loves her and would never hurt her on purpose, she is about to start crawling and he has lots of energy and doesn’t realize how big he is so I am worried about him knocking her town or stepping on her. He also loves being outside and we do not have a great backyard situation for him to run around in, so he doesn’t get as much exercise as he needs which contributes to all of his energy! We are looking for a loving home for him with someone who either has a backyard he can run around in or would be willing to take him on regular walks. He also loves to snuggle!

Story
Baltimore is a one-year-old, 55-pound purebred Dead Grass Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Looking at the breed characteristics of the Chessie, they are intelligent and learn at high speed, and even though they’re retrievers, they’re very different from labs and goldens. We want to find a home for him that’s familiar with the breed. Baltimore is a staff favorite in boarding, where they say he loves to play, is great on a leash, and is eager to please. He is not reactive to other dogs but uncomfortable when they approach him. He probably lacks socialization, and they think that in the right environment, he could learn to be around other dogs. ##1874974##
