Story
Brody is a handsome pup who loves to spend his days lounging in sunny spots by a window, but nothing makes him happier than walks (he is an expert sniffer) and chewing on a good bone. He can be mouthy when he gets over-excited, but is excellent at following basic commands (sit, down, come, stay, place). He also enjoys wrestling with other dogs who like to play rough. He will be best behaved with a firm owner who knows how to set expectations and consistently enforces house rules. We are unable to answer every email.  If you are interested in our pups, please fill out an application and we will contact you.  Thank you for your patience and understanding while we receive quite a few applications on our dogs and have to match each one carefully for their safety and what we feel will the best fit for the pup.   Visit our page at www.pupandcatco.com Please consider signing up for recurring donations on our website https://www.pupandcatco.com/donate/ Thank youVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.We do not have a shelter facility and our pets are housed in foster homes, vet clinics and local boarding facilities. Story
Meet Cooper and Granite! This bonded pair chose each other as lifelong buddies while being fostered many moons ago. They are seniors now at about 11 years old, but both health and activity wise you’d never know it. Before you read on and fall in love with one of them…please know they MUST stay together. No exceptions…it was a promise made to their owner before she passed a year ago. They have been with their original foster mom since then. She is having to rehome them due to new care for family and family dogs. Let’s start with Granite, who is basically the perfect dog! She’s sweet, and shy, so very gentle and humble. Totally housetrained. Cooper. Well, he’s Cooper and he’s special! He is such a goofball and can be opinionated when he’s ready for food. Or to get in your lap. Or to give you kisses. Unfortunately, Cooper cannot be around cats and he’s dog selective, although Granite loves everyone and everything. But again, they MUST stay together. These two dogs are as special as their human was. Cooper has a few isms, but don’t we all?! They do need a minimum 5-foot fence that is absolutely secure along the ground. They have been known to be escapees, but treats every time they come in and some managed and/or limited time outside has addressed that. They are both good on the leash and love LOVE to go on car rides. The person or people who get to adopt this awesome pair will find their life very enriched indeed…they are just so…stoic and loving and fun. Cody is a young Boxer/Lab mix. He is 55 lbs and a calm young fella. He loves to go on walks and hang out with his foster dog siblings.  Cody can jump so he would love a home with a fence or someone to supervise his outdoor activies on a leash. Do you like to go on hikes with a pal? Cody would love to be that pal for you! He is a calm soul who as long as his basic needs are met in life he is good! Cody is a deep thinker and you might learn that while he does he hear you calling him, his thoughts are to important to miss! If you are looking for a partner in adventure then Cody is your man! Sullivan or Sully as we call him is so fun! He is a typical lab, 2 years old and has a ton of energy. Sully wants cuddles on the couch after play time. His ideal home would be with another dog who loves to play as much as he does and is great with kids as well! He loves to go for walks and car rides. Sullys perfect home would be one where he doesn't have to spend alot of time crated as he has FOMO (fear of missing out) and will sing you the song of his people once he is bored. He does well at bedtime in a crate though! Sully is smart and already knows how to sit, stay, down and shake! He is a wonderful dog who just wants to be your buddy. If you think you could be his perfect match, please apply on the MACS website!May 30, 2023, 10:40 pm

Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
I adopted Leo from Gwinnett Humane Society. I was told that he was previously abused and stayed in a cage almost all day. The next time he was put in a cage, he injured his head trying to get out. *he does not like small enclosed spaces, and cannot be put in a cage* He doesn't like being left alone, and will need a parent who works from home or is retired. He loves long walks, treats and cuddling up on the couch. He is a very quick learner with treats and positive reinforcement. He will be getting his shots updated May 27th. The adoption fee is also negotiable!

Story
Meet your new best friend, Sadie! She is the sweetest girl and absolutely loves snuggles. She’ll be your “shadow” and follow you from room to room because she loves being close to her owners! She loves kids & is very gentle with my littles. Sadly, with our work schedules & 3rd baby on the way, we are not able to give her the attention she deserves. Sadie is well trained but has a lot of energy and needs to go to a home with someone who can regularly take her on walks or let her run in a fenced yard. We will give her new parents all her toys, harness/leash, food/food bowls, beds, and crate. She is spayed & up to date on all vaccines/heartworm meds. I think she would get along well with other dogs, although we don’t have any. She likes to guard her home in a non aggressive way. She’ll bark loudly to alert you if anyone comes near the door! But she is the sweetest, gentlest gal who has never bit or nipped at anyone. Please give this sweet girl her FOREVER home!

Story
Apply here: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/ Meet Joey! This handsome guy is (officially) new to our program but has been hanging out with his ACR foster for a while. He was born around October 2021, so he’s just over a year old and weighs in at around 50 pounds. Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands Joey is completely housetrained and even sits by the door to signal that he’s gotta go! Crate training, however, is still in the works. He doesn’t necessarily love being in his crate because he prefers getting to hang out with his people. While he’s still training, he does better in a dog proof room than in his crate but he’s adjusting over time. Also… did we mention that this smart boy knows how to sit AND lay down? Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids Joey lives in a foster home with other dogs and he loves them! He hasn’t met a dog that he doesn’t enjoy bouncing around with and listens well to cues when other dogs aren’t necessarily in the mood to play. He will happily greet any other dog that he’s allowed to! While Joey hasn’t lived directly with cats, he’s met them briefly at the shelter and was more fearful than anything with them. Behavior around People Here’s where things get a little complicated for our boy, Joey. He is an amazing dog! He absolutely loves women and has never met one that he hasn’t immediately loved. Joey, however, is fearful of men. His current foster is a man and with time, he’s become Joey’s best friend! But he’s still a little hesitant with new male friends, and is a bit of a “scaredy cat” when it comes to them. We’re working to help Joey through this, but in the mean time, he just needs patience and understanding! This guy loves to be around people. When he’s excited, he’ll want as much love as he can get from you (especially when you JUST get home!) but once everyone’s settled, he’s happy to just hang out in the general vicinity of the people he loves. Exercise Needs Joey is a young, energetic dog. He’d do well with a pup playmate to help get some of that energy out, but would also do just fine with some games of fetch and a long walk or two. He loves his squeaky balls and will entertain himself with it if no one else wants to play. Do you have a spot on your couch or bed that needs to be filled? Joey’s in! Contact us today! If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card. This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead. All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER. We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.
