**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Pappy. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray in the New Waterford area and I was brought into the pound. I have been a really good boy here at the pound. I am sweet, happy and I like to play, but I am past the puppy shenanigans. I appear to be completely housebroken and I am a good boy when I am in my kennel. I am not a dog that likes being squeezed and hugged, kissed on, poked and prodded. I am a great boy. I am smart. I know commands. I like affection. I am well mannered... But, I do not like certain things, and I will tell you NO. Children don't always understand that cue and that some dogs would rather be left alone sometimes, so I am looking for a family without children. I will also likely need muzzled at the vet for things like annual vaccines and nail trims, as, again, I am not a fan of poking and prodding. I also don't like being messed with while I'm eating. I like to eat in peace, enjoy my treats in peace, then we can talk. I have done well around all of the other dogs that I've met here at the pound. I love going for nice, long walks with the volunteers on the days they're here. I enjoy being out of my kennel, rolling around in the grass and romping around for a little bit... then sleeping for hours. I would make an excellent companion for a single person looking for a dog to keep them company and keep them safe. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. I have been great with all of the people I've met and I have also been good around the other dogs that I've met here at the pound. I lived with and did well with children, a small dog and cats. I slept in bed every night with the kids. Overall, I am a very good boy, but I am active and would do well with a family that can give me plenty of exercise and spend a little time working with me on my basic manners and training. I am said to be housebroken. I had a dog door with access to a fenced yard. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. Hello! My name is Dawson! If my striking eyes don`t steal your heart first, my amazing personality will! I am oh so affectionate; I love cuddles, snuggles, hugs, kisses, pets, pats, scratchies, more cuddles, and a dash of extra snuggles too. I am very loving, goofy, and have some of the best zoomies you`ve ever seen! I love my favorite people, but it can take me a little bit to warm up to new strangers. I would love a home with humans to hug, and prefer if they are teens to adults. I play with dogs here and love it! I pick and choose which dogs are my friends (just like people do) and need to be in a home with a fenced yard so I have plenty of room to zoom and play. I like to chase small animals, so bigger dogs are better for me. I know sit, paw, and love to go on walks. Come meet me today and fall in love! If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog`s better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. The Adoption Fee Includes:- initial canine distemper combination vaccination- first worming or stool check- rabies vaccination (for animals over 3 months of age)- 24 Petwatch microchipping- flea treatment/preventative- spaying or neuteringAdoption fee: $135.00Per state law, ALL ADOPTERS must purchase a non-refundable 2022 dog license at time of adoption for any canine three months and older. The cost of the license is $7.00. (Senior Citizen or Person with Disability-$5.00)Leash and collar included

Story
Hello! My name is June Bug! I am sweet and wiggly, a happy girl to be sure. I can be shy meeting new people, but that is only because someone was not nice to me before. I was found tied up the woods, left alone in the cold, waiting for some kind of miracle. Thankfully I was brought to the shelter and then adopted! My former adoptive family was the best! They loved me a lot and took great care of me. But...they discovered something I hadn`t told the shelter staff....I`m a master vermin catcher! I love to chase birds, bunnies, squirrels, you name it! I am still a young dog, very strong, and when chasing after these forest friends, I was becoming too much to handle for my adopters. To keep me safe, they brought me back for a second chance at a home that could meet my needs better. I am crate trained and do well in it. I am housebroken. I am very affectionate and super sweet. Come meet me today and take me home with you! Here’s what the staff have to say about June Bug:“June Bug is such a sweet girl! She’s unsure of new people at first, but once she’s comfortable with you, all she wants is to be by your side. She’s a big athletic girl, and sometimes she forgets her size. She’s a bit clumsy, and trips over her feet to get near her favorite people! She thinks she’s a lapdog and will climb right into your lap if you let her! She LOVES snacks and going swimming in the pool! Come meet our sweet girl and see if she’s the right pup for you!”If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Story
Izzy is a 2.5 year old mixed breed pup. We think he is lab/pit mix but we are not 100% sure. He has a lot of energy loves to play ball. He lives with a fur sibling and does well with her. He just wants to wrestle and play 90% of the time. The other 10% you will find him curled up next to you snoozing. He unfortuntely is too rough for small children. He lives with a 2 and 4 year old, and he play nips their arms when they are running and being crazy (as kids are). We have tried two separate trainers, one in a group setting with other dogs, and a 1:1 training in our home. He listens well to commands, but when in the moment he gets too excited and wants to play with the kids. We want him to go to the perfect home where he can thrive. He has never shown any aggression towards the kids, and simply just wants to play with them, but uses his mouth instead. If you are interested in knowing more about Izzy, please reach out. He is up to date on all vaccines, is microchipped, and neutered.

Story
King is a 10 month old Lab/Boxer mix. He is a very playful guy and since coming to Angels for Animals on July 30, 2024 as an owner surrender, he has shown us that he walks well on a leash and knows basics commandings such as sit. King lived in a home with another dog but has not met any cats yet.
