Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MARIANAS is a beautiful puppy who hails from Fort Hope. She’s microchipped, had her second set of vaccines, she’s also spayed and has been deemed healthy by her vet and ready to go to her forever home. She loves to snuggle with you and fall asleep in your arms. She came into rescue at 3 days old along with her 5 siblings and her mum, Ocean, who’s a beautiful white husky with a brown and tan face. Mum is just 50lbs so we don’t see her being a big dog but of course, we don’t know dad so there is a possibility of her being a large adult dog. If she was human she would be called a “tomboy” as she’s so brave, fearless, adventurous girl. MARIANAS will require a very special family who will be committed to helping her live a full and wonderful life. She is not and does not see herself as disabled and she doesn’t know she’s blind. She’s the bravest most remarkable pup foster mum has ever met. She deserves to go on lots of adventures and to be included and be exposed to new situations. Her new family must be committed to do extra training with her and to keep her safe. It’s a lifetime commitment and may require some rearranging in your house, your yard and your schedule to accommodate her and to explore any additional blind assisted aids to help her flourish. A fenced yard is a MUST for her. MARIANAS is used to following her brother around, so another dog who is calm, respectful and patient and who would be accepting to have her tag along, lead and be her mentor would be in her best interest. An active family who would include her in adventures and we believe that it there are children in the house they should be older, responsible and caring plus willing to assist in leading, training and supporting MARIANAS. You don’t need to have experience with having a blind dog but it would be an asset if you do. MARIANAS is: Sweet and Beautiful; Brave and Adventurous; Soft and Cuddly: and Blind. BUT don’t let all of this tug at your heart strings. Adopting a puppy is a lot of work but adopting a blind puppy will be a bit more work. If you’re thinking about adopting MARIANAS, please do some research about living with a blind dog and all that goes with that and make sure you are up to that forever commitment. MARIANAS loves to run and play with her sibling and the other 2 dogs in her foster home. She’ll chase after one of them and wrestle them for the toy they have. She climbs on top of the huge rocks in the garden and acts like she’s “queen of the hill!” She runs up and down steps with no fear whatsoever and nothing seems to be a challenge for this girl. She loves going on walks and will zig zag in front of you making walking challenging at times. You have to watch you don’t trip over her and keep her safe from bumping into lamp posts, parked cars or even branches. Foster mum uses “step up” or “step down” when she comes to kerbs or steps to help her navigate them when on a walk. MARIANAS is crate trained and sleeps through the night without a peep. She has a blanket and her stuffie in there with her and the crate is covered with a light covering. She will also go in there during the day and have a nap or just chill out. House training is going really well for her and we’d have to say she’s 95% there as she always goes when she’s outside but she just doesn’t quite know to ask to go outside yet. She hadn’t met a cat but with proper introductions, we can’t see why they wouldn’t get along, especially if the cat is dog savvy. MARIANAS is blind due to being born with Microphthalmia so she’s never had vision. She had a double eye enucleation just a few weeks ago and on our vets advice, we had her spayed at the same time so she wouldn’t have to undergo another surgery in a few months time. As much as you want to feel sorry for her, there’s no reason to at all as she’s never had vision and she doesn’t know any different. We need her to be adopted into a family who doesn’t see her as a “special needs dog” but rather as just a “special dog” who’s treated like any other dog. Just like any of our puppies, we do require you to get her obedience training so she’ll be the best girl she can be and to help you understand what you need to do for a blind dog. She shouldn’t need training that’s any different to what other puppies would receive either but just need a few modifications. If you’re that special person/family for our special MARIANAS then please put in an adoption application.
