Story
Crissy’s journey started on the side of a rural Texas road, abandoned and alone with her sister. But now? Her story is finally turning around—right here in Wisconsin. She’s gone from shelter bars to wide-open fields and is thriving in her foster home. Crissy lives on a farm, where she’s respectful of horses and chickens, adores the kiddos, and gets along wonderfully with the resident Pyrenees. She even went camping and loved every second of it—this girl’s ready for adventure, as long as it ends with snuggles. Still just a pup, Crissy is that perfect mix of playful and calm. She enjoys exploring, playing with her people, and curling up close when it’s time to wind down. She’s already crate trained, fully potty trained, and has the sweetest, most eager-to-please personality. Crissy is ready for a forever home full of love, patience, and gentle guidance. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick with a heart of gold, Crissy’s your girl. FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping. For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.

He is doing well and is now ready to find a loving forever family. Meet Spud Spud is a 5-month-old mixed breed puppy who is ready for a fresh start. He and his brother, Sprout, were originally found as strays and ended up in an Arkansas shelter before getting the chance to travel to Wisconsin for a better future. Despite his rough start, Spud is a happy, loving puppy who enjoys being around people. He has a playful, friendly personality and, like most puppies his age, he is curious about the world and always ready for fun and attention. Spud does well with other dogs and kids, and with proper introductions and time to adjust, he will likely do well with cats too. He and his brother are believed to be Lab/Shar Pei mixes, which gives them their extra squishy, wrinkly and adorable look. Even though Spud is still a young pup, but he has already learned the basics such as crate training and potty training. We are working on leash manners. He is at the perfect age to learn and grow with his new family, and with patience, consistency, and love, he will make a wonderful companion. Spud currently weighs about 35 lbs and is ready to begin the next chapter of his life with a family who will help him continue learning and growing. Story
Toby is a wonderful companion. He loves to play fetch, belly rubs, and baby talk. He is best around older children just because he is bigger and very playful. He still needs to be trained not to jump on people. He does this because he is so excited to see them. He knows commands like come, sit, wait, lay down and paw. He is potty trained and up to date on shots. He is active and needs a lot of exercise. He will be 2 in August. He needs a home with a nice backyard so he can run and play. Or someone who is able to take him for walks on a regular. He is a lab mix with Light eyes, and is brown with cream spots. He comes with tons of treats, cage, and some food,

She is doing well and is now ready to find a loving forever family. Meet Penelope Penelope is an approximately 3–4-year-old, 50-pound Labrador mix who spent about two years with our rescue partners before making the trip to Wisconsin. She is a super sweet, friendly girl who loves to play and is excited to start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own. Penelope is great with dogs and children, but she is not cat friendly. She has an affectionate personality and enjoys attention, always happy to interact with her people. Because she spent time in a foster home before arriving in Wisconsin, Penelope is already potty trained, crate trained, and working on her leash manners. She was originally scheduled to travel on a previous transport but tested a weak positive for heartworms. Penelope has since been fully treated and is now healthy, happy, and ready to find the loving home she deserves. She is spayed and would thrive in a home where she can enjoy playtime, companionship, and lots of love.
