Story
We took Mazey in to our home in 2023, after her owner went into an assisted living facility. Her owner had her since she was a pup of 10 weeks - adopted from the local humane society. Mazey is 9 years old. She's is very sweet and loves to be cuddled and scratched. She would be best, in our opinion, in a home with olders humans. She really just wants some love, short walks and lots of food/treats. She is very food motivated (personally, I think that's how she was loved by her previous owner). We rescued a dog (lab/rhodesian ridgeback) in 2021. He came to us at 6 months old and is now 3 1/2. He LOVES to play HARD and Mazey wants nothing to do with him She's even snapped at him to stop a couple times. That's really not like her, she's so sweet with humans and our kids. I think she's just getting older and doesn't want to be bothered with very active, playful dogs. Put Mazey in a room full of humans and dogs and she's gravitating to the humans. :)

Story
Meet Violet, a loving and gentle momma dog who came to HBWI after all her puppies found wonderful homes. Now it's Violet's turn to find her forever family! Violet is an affectionate and playful girl who adores being around people. She gets along wonderfully with kids of all ages, having spent time with both young children and older ones. She's great in her crate, housebroken, and knows to chew only on her toys. Naturally quiet, Violet sleeps through the night in her crate without a peep. She currently lives with a cat and likes to sit back and observe it. She hasn't shown a prey drive... other than with bugs! Initially high-energy upon her arrival to WI, Violet has since settled down and proven to be a calm, well-behaved dog. She knows basic commands like "sit" and "down," and her high food motivation makes her eager to please. She was a jumper when she got here, but we think those days are behind her!! Violet is amazing on a leash and is a true "loose leash walker." She has great recall and even knows how to play fetch! Violet is ready to share her love and bring joy to a new family. Could you be the perfect match for this amazing dog? Story
Charlotte's story began in rural Texas, where she and her four surviving puppies were found abandoned. Despite her tough circumstances, Charlotte has always been the sweetest girl, desperately seeking help for herself and her little family. Now that her puppies are weaned and thriving, it’s Charlotte’s turn to find her forever home. Charlotte is an absolute gem. She’s crate trained and housebroken, though she prefers to be outside the crate and can be trusted with free rein in the house. She’s wonderful with other dogs and cats, and she’s amazing and gentle with children. Her chill disposition makes her the perfect companion for a family. Charlotte is great on-leash, and during a recent vacation up north, she had a breakthrough and was trusted off-leash! She adores her people and is eager to find a family to call her own. This sweet, gentle girl has so much love to give and is ready to share her heart with a family who will cherish her. Are you ready to give Charlotte the loving home she deserves? All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook!
