Meet Poe!
Have you seen this face?! Seriously. Those puppy eyes. That smile. The kisses.
Poe is an 81-pound bundle of brains, athleticism, energy, and absolute devotion to his person.
Inside the home, Poe is a total sweetheart. He wants to be near his people and will happily follow you from room to room, frequently checking in to give you a kiss, collect a few pets, and make sure you're still aware that he is, in fact, adorable. His foster describes him as fun, strong, smart, athletic, and eager to please.
Poe LOVES to learn. He is highly food motivated, enjoys enrichment games, and lights up when he has something to do. Whether it's learning a new skill, exploring outside, or heading out on an adventure, Poe is the kind of dog who wants to engage his brain and body.
And if you open the car door? Poe is in. This boy is always ready to go somewhere and would make an incredible adventure or sporting companion for the right person.
But here's something important about Poe: we don't think city life is his thing. Poe is currently fostered in a busy urban environment filled with people appearing from doorways, slamming car doors, motorcycles, ambulances, runners, skateboards, kids on e-bikes, and constant activity. For a dog with strong guardian instincts, that's a LOT of information to process.
His foster has noticed something incredibly important. Poe is a completely different dog in quieter environments. Away from the constant sights and sounds of the city, Poe is able to relax. His guardian brain doesn't feel like it needs to monitor every person, noise, and unexpected movement around him.
That's why we're looking for something different for Poe.
A quieter suburban or rural home. A securely fenced yard where he can sniff, explore, play, and sunbathe. A person who enjoys being active and wants a dog by their side. Someone committed to continuing his training. And someone who understands the deep loyalty of a guardian breed.
Poe is reactive to other dogs and can react to unfamiliar people or unexpected movement when he feels surprised or crowded. He needs deliberate introductions to new people rather than strangers simply walking up to him.
But here's the part we really want people to hear: Poe is already improving. He can now see a dog from about half a block away without reacting. He is reacting less and less to people. His foster has been helping him learn to self-regulate, and Poe is beginning to show that he can make different choices.
And despite the big watchdog bark? Poe actually enjoys meeting new people. Give him a thoughtful introduction and a moment to understand that someone is safe, and this sweet boy warms up quickly and loves generously.
At home, Poe's guardian instincts make him an excellent watchdog. He may alert his people when he sees or hears something suspicious, but he isn't an excessive barker. Once his person acknowledges the situation and tells him, "That's enough," Poe settles back down.
Poe isn't looking for a busy city apartment or a packed neighborhood where every walk feels like rush hour. He's looking for room to exhale.
A yard to sniff. A sunny spot to stretch out. A person who thinks training a smart, athletic dog sounds fun. And a home where he can finally stop watching the entire world and focus on loving his person. Because when Poe loves you? He checks in. He follows you. He gives kisses.
And he looks up at you with those ridiculously sweet puppy eyes that his foster says will absolutely melt you.
Poe needs an experienced adopter who understands powerful guardian breeds and is committed to continued training. He must be the only pet and would do best in an adult home. But for the right person? Poe may be the adventure buddy, training partner, watchdog, professional kisser, and fiercely devoted best friend you've been looking for. Maybe this sweet boy hasn't been overlooked. Maybe he just hasn't reached the right person yet. Could that person be you?
