I am available through HSMO’s Foster-to-Adopt program! I am being treated for heartworm disease, and because the treatment can take a few months, I am able to continue my treatment in your home, rather than stay in the shelter during that time. Once my treatment is over, we can finalize the adoption, making me a permanent member of your family. HSMO will provide all the food, medication, and veterinary care during the foster period, and the staff at HSMO is happy to answer any questions you might have about heartworms. You will need to bring me to the HSMO shelter to see the veterinarian as needed, and to avoid complications from the treatment, I need to be kept as quiet as possible. That means no rough housing or playing hard with people or other pets. I will need to be on leash outside at all times and can only take short, 15-minute walks three to four times a day. However, the good news is that once my treatment is over, I can run and play and be silly again! I am looking for a forever family or a family to love me until my forever family finds me. 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗧𝗢𝗡 🤍🐷 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 Compton 🤍 We promise to find you a 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 this time 🙏 Compton found his way to our city shelter back in January of 2025 as a stray with a collar and leash still attached, but sadly no one came forward 😞 He quickly showed signs of kennel stress, but luckily was sprung by a foster hero, and then what he thought was his furever home…2 months later he was dropped off for dogsitting, the owner blocked the sitter, and never came back for our sweet ham 😭 He was once again adopted again, and later picked up by the Humane Society as a stray and transferred back to CARE. After 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀, Compton is FREE of shelter life, decompressing in a home, and snoring like a grown man 😆 (check out the comments for a video!) Chili Mac is equal parts cuddle bug and class clown — he’ll make you laugh one minute and melt into your lap the next. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he decides you’re cool, he’s all in! He’s great with dogs big and small (seriously — from 6 lbs to 120 lbs!), crate and potty trained, and already knows some basic commands. Due to Chili Mac's size and clumsiness, he would do best in a home with older children. He would also be best with someone who has breed/guardian experience given some mouthy behaviors which are normal for the breed. Chili Mac would love an active home with another dog friend or a human adventure buddy.
