Story
Oreo is a lovable male Pointer weighing 50 pounds, and he's ready to steal your heart! With his friendly nature, he's super sweet with everyone he meets, making him an ideal companion for families, singles, or anyone looking for a loyal, affectionate dog. Oreo also gets along great with other dogs, so if you have a canine friend at home, they'll make fast pals. While Oreo might not be the best fit for households with cats, his social nature and loving temperament make him a perfect addition to the right home. Just a heads-up, Oreo is an adventurous spirit and has been known to scale fences, so keeping him safe with secure outdoor spaces is important. If you're looking for a sweet, active, and loving dog to add to your family, Oreo is the one for you. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Daniel was surrendered twice to a rural shelter partner in Rockbridge, once with his siblings as a puppy and again recently when his owner was no longer able to take care of him due to health issues. Story
Come meet me during our events Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at the Homeward Trails Manny Law Adoption Center, 11116 Fairfax Station Rd, Fairfax Station, VA. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Adoption Center ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Adoption Center ADOPTION FEE: $475. This fee INCLUDES spay/neuter and microchip. **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 45 lbs. KNOWN WITH DOGS: Domino prefers playing with dogs who don't play too hard and respect when he gives them signals, or spending solo time with his human friends. KNOWN WITH CATS: We do not currently know how they are with cats. If that is needed, let us know and we'll work on getting that information! KNOWN WITH KIDS: We think Domino would do better in a home with older children or adults. KNOWN CUES: Paw, Sit, Down, working on Spin, Crawl, and Touch. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Domino goes into and rests in his crate fine at the Adoption Center though he was more concerned about it in a home environment. He also seems to be housebroken. KNOWN LIKES: Sniffing, attention from friends who move at his speed, fetch, toys, treats. KNOWN DISLIKES: People who move too quickly, loud noises, being alone. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: What impact does the domino effect have on you? Exercise caution, as you might find yourself entranced just as I was. From the very first moment I encountered Domino, I was utterly captivated by him. We spent a delightful afternoon together, lounging on the sofa while I attended to my work. Domino made numerous attempts to assist me; he would perch on my lap and gaze at the computer screen. On occasion, he even attempted to type for me. Although his contributions may not have aligned with my needs, his efforts were nonetheless appreciated. You may wonder where his happy place is, and that is hanging out with his favorite people, moving at his speed. When he adores you, he loves putting himself in your space and receiving attention, but sometimes too much love can be overwhelming for Domino, so he prefers his attention in small bursts. Domino has a fondness for treats and enjoys being in the company of people. He doesn't mind being around dogs, provided they respect his cues when he is ready to conclude playtime. He relishes short cuddles, play sessions with toys, and leisurely walks in tranquil environments. Although he may initially feel anxious when meeting new individuals, he quickly warms up, and once he gets to know you, he wants to spend all his time by your side and would prefer a home with constant human companionship. So, I pose the question once more: What effect does the domino effect have on you? I invite you to visit the adoption center to meet him and discover for yourself what an extraordinary and lovable companion he truly is. Domino was neutered before coming to Homeward Trails. HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines & de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital, Union Veterinary Clinic and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.

Please contact Lowell Nelson (lowelln@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet mama ready for her own family! LUCY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Lucy        Best Guess for Breed:  Pointer and basset hound mix  Best Guess for Age:   3 years as of February 2025       Gender:  Female Approximate Weight:   44 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We have tested Lucy with some of the cats at the shelter, and she did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Lucy could live with a cat, she has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!       Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment  Special Adoption Considerations: Lucy is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Lucy is Looking For: Her forever home! Lucy did an amazing job of raising her babies Rand, Rek, Rookie, Rosie, Rucker, and Russ to be amazing family pets, and they're off to their own homes. Now Lucy wants to love and be loved by her own family To have her own humans to trot alongside on long sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up.  Lucy has so many adoring gazes and happy tail wags and all the loyalty in her heart to lavish upon her humans. What do you say? Is this stubby-legged sweetie the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Please contact Caitlin Finn (caitlin.finn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.young boy ready to play! KENTUCKY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Kentucky and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (05/18) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100 - A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!   Name:  Kentucky       Best Guess for Breed:   Pointer and lab mix Best Guess for Age:  3 years 6 mos as of February 2024   Gender:    Male Approximate Weight:    51 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids. Kentucky is a bit too interested in his feline friends so a home without cats is best. Currently Living At: DC area foster home Kentucky is Looking For: His forever family! He's got all that awesome young-dog energy and is eager to have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and exploring the world - he hasn't seen nearly enough of it. He'd love to make pup pals along the way, too. Quality kibble, cushy dog beds, peanut butter-filled Kongs - yes, please. But you know what he wants most of all? To know where he belongs, to know he's safe and loved for all his days. What do you say? Is he the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Kentucky is a very sweet, loving and good boy. He is high energy, playful, a little clumsy, and a giant goofball but he loves affection and attention, loves being outside, and loves being near me. He is doing great walking on leash and has been a wonderful running and hiking companion. He is very food motivated and loves to play with other dogs - he has gotten along great with another dog in the home. Chew toys, playing ball, and veggies (yes really!) are his favorite. He is so happy and a very sweet dog! Medical: Kentucky was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! Kentucky has completed the treatment and exercise restriction phase, and is now awaiting his 6-month follow up test.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.
