Story
Current Location: Strasburg, VA Date of birth: 10/6/25 Estimated adult weight: 45-50 lbs Hello, my name is Dapple! I'm male, thought to be a pointer mix and am part of a litter of 12, yes, 12 puppies! I've just been weaned from mom and I'm learning to be a big boy puppy by eating on my own, using the pee pads and wrestling with my brothers and sisters. Oh yeah, and giving my foster mom and dad lots of puppy kisses. I'm microchipped and have had age appropriate vaccines, preventatives and dewormings. I’m looking for my forever family - is that with you? If so please click “apply for adoption” or submit an application through the Adopt tab. I'm available to go home with my new family starting on 12/1 and I can't wait to have a home of my own!

Story
Current Location: Strasburg, VA Hello, my name is Dottie! I'm thought to be a Pointer mix, about 2 years old and currently weigh about 40 pounds. I'm a submissive gal with a sweet temperament and do very well with the people and dogs I've met. I love, love, love to snuggle and like nothing better than to sit next to my people and get lots of attention and hugs. I'm also house trained and walk well on the leash. I just weaned my litter of pups and will be spayed on 12/1. I'm heartworm positive and will receive treatment on 12/15 and can go home with my new family in time to celebrate the new year. I am microchipped, current on my vaccines and monthly preventives, and will be spayed and have received heartworm treatment prior to adoption. This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH’s heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable.

Story
Name: Gurty Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 9 months old (as of 12/1/25) Best Guess for Breed: Pointer Mix Weight: About 35 lbs (as of 12/1/25) Lives With: Dogs, cats, and people! Housebroken? She’s working on her potty training and making good progress! Story: Gurty was rescued from a shelter in Alabama. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Gurty is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Gurty is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Gurty will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Gurty is your typical playful, friendly puppy. Her foster has a dog and cat and Gurty happily lives with them in the home. She has been friendly with every person and dog she’s met so far. Gurty is an intelligent and active dog, but not overly active. Her foster believes she would thrive most in a home with an active family who’s enthusiastic about having a dog that is able to learn tricks, play games, and follow commands in and out of the house. She is a quick and eager learner. She is super affectionate and loves to get pets. She is crate trained. She loves the water and even tries to follow the foster into the shower. Her recall is excellent - she always comes running at the dog park or in the backyard. Being a puppy, she is still potty training and leash training. Her foster says both of those are going well as far as a dog’s typical development goes. Gurty is a very special dog, and we want her to go to an equally wonderful home! The fee to adopt Gurty is $475. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, her spay, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. If you think that Gurty might be your perfect match, apply today!       December 3, 2025, 6:46 pm

Story
Meet Luna! This gorgeous girl was adopted as a four-month-old puppy and had some early training, but unfortunately, her family didn’t continue the structure and training she needed as she matured. Luna is a sensitive, intelligent dog who needs leadership and an engaged environment. Without it, she became anxious and overstimulated and had some guarding issues around the other dog in the home. When we first met Luna, she was heavily medicated. Her owners had consulted a behaviorist who prescribed multiple high-dose anti-anxiety medications, but the problems persisted. We connected them with Brittany, one of our trusted trainers, and recommended a behavioral board-and-train program. Brittany requires all her client dogs to be off medication before training, to address behavior at the root. We’re thrilled to share that Luna is now completely off medication and thriving. She’s thinking clearly, has rediscovered how to be a dog, and continues to progress each day. Despite Luna’s significant improvement, her family ultimately chose to rehome her, feeling they couldn’t meet her needs. Brittany immediately stepped up, offering to foster Luna and continue her training. Luna now lives with Brittany, her husband, and their pack of four dogs, and she’s doing beautifully. About Luna: Luna is affectionate, fun, and full of life. She’s also an active dog with moderate drive. She loves to learn and likes having a job or goals to keep life interesting. She’s not a couch potato; she needs both physical activity and mental stimulation, and does best with an experienced owner who will continue setting clear boundaries. Luna loves: *&#239&#184&#143&#226&#131&#163Training work and learning new skills *&#239&#184&#143&#226&#131&#163Playing ball and frisbee *&#239&#184&#143&#226&#131&#163Walks, hikes, patio outings, and off-leash runs and swimming in the local creek She’s great with people of all ages, but we think a home with older kids would be best. While she has solid social skills with other dogs, she would thrive as an only dog or paired with the right laid-back companion. Her current foster home includes a balanced pack, which has helped her, but resource and hierarchy issues mean it needs to be the right match. Luna has received extensive training and knows commands including: Sit, Down, Heel, Come, Stay, Place, Up Up, Out, Touch, and more. Her adoption includes two private training sessions with Brittany to support her transition and lifetime discounted lessons. Luna is looking for a home that understands her needs, is ready to keep her engaged, and wants to build a deep, rewarding bond with a smart, active girl. If you think you could be the perfect match, or know someone who might be, please reach out or apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Pointer/Staffy Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  63 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 3 years old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Frederick, MD   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Waylon! 🐾❤️ Waylon is an absolutely adorable 2-year-old Pointer/Hound mix with the softest, most soulful eyes and a sweet, earnest expression that melts you the moment he looks your way. He has this gentle little head tilt that makes him look like he’s truly listening to every word you say — it’s impossible not to fall for him. Waylon is a tender, humble boy who just wants to be close to his people. He’ll quietly follow you around, happy to be near you and share in whatever you’re doing. He starts off a bit shy, but once he trusts you, he opens up into the most loving, loyal little shadow. Waylon does wonderfully with kids, loves other dogs, and even does well with cats, making him an easy fit into a wide variety of homes. He’s already crate trained and picking up on new routines and commands fast — he truly wants to please. He’s neutered, fully vaccinated, and ready to find a family who will cherish his gentle heart and lovable personality.
