Story
Meet Daniel! This super sweet boy wants to be your long-legged, lap dog! Daniel is a goofy, young boy who will absolutely melt your heart. He has mastered the art of gazing longingly into your eyes and will have you wrapped around his paw in no time! He's not always confident around new people but is gaining confidence every day with patience and treats. It's hard not to fall in love with this adorable pup! ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 60lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Daniel has done well with dogs at the Farm and goes in playgroups all the time! KNOWN WITH CATS: Daniel has not met a cat so we do not know. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Daniel is in a foster home with young kids and is doing wonderful, even loves to cuddle with them! KNOWN CUES: Daniel knows 'sit' and 'touch' and is working on 'down' 'paw' and 'stay' KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Daniel feels safe in his crate and he walks into it nicely to watch the world around him. KNOWN LIKES: Sniffing, squeaky toys, people who move slowly with him. KNOWN DISLIKES: Sudden loud noises, people who don't work with him at his speed. BACKGROUND: Daniel was surrendered twice to a rural shelter partner in Rockbridge, once with his siblings as a puppy and again recently when his owner was no longer able to take care of him due to health issues. It's no wonder he can be a little nervous when his life has been so unpredictable. Daniel want to find a family he can love and trust, who will move at his speed and help him feel confident in our suburban area. He promises to repay you with all the cuddles and puppy kisses he can give - once he feels a little more comfortable. Daniel was neutered before coming to Homeward Trails. ___________________________________ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Trails Home Farm, Delaplane, VA ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Trails Home Farm Staff HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: All dogs located at Trails Home Farm are in Delaplane, VA and require an appointment for approved applicants to have a meet and greet. Story
Come meet me during our events Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at the Homeward Trails Manny Law Adoption Center, 11116 Fairfax Station Rd, Fairfax Station, VA. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Adoption Center ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Adoption Center ADOPTION FEE: WAIVED! I'M PART OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM AND MY ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED. WE WILL ALSO PAY MY FOSTER OR ADOPTER $500. HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. These dogs have been failed by humans along the way, leaving them homeless and with issues from their treatment. We'll be honest. Some of them are real jerks. But not always. And not to everyone. Not everyone can be charming ALL the time, right? Others are just fearful and don't like other animals because they have had a bad interaction at some point. Some of them love other dogs but are just plain scared of everything. But all of them are good on the inside. And we believe that ALL of them deserve a chance at life and love. And we're looking to find the right human out there to make that happen. But competition is tough. And they're up against small, well-behaved doggies...so we are offering incentives for special humans willing to give these pooches a chance. WE WANT YOU! ***We are paying $500 to any approved foster or adopter of our REWARDS dogs.*** The human will also get ongoing training support, all supplies covered and a $25 Amazon gift card each month for 6 months. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life. ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 45 lbs. KNOWN WITH DOGS: Domino prefers playing with dogs who don't play too hard and respect when he gives them signals, or spending solo time with his human friends. KNOWN WITH CATS: We do not currently know how they are with cats. If that is needed, let us know and we'll work on getting that information! KNOWN WITH KIDS: We think Domino would do better in a home with older children or adults. KNOWN CUES: Paw, Sit, Down, working on Spin, Crawl, and Touch. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Domino goes into and rests in his crate fine at the Adoption Center though he was more concerned about it in a home environment. He also seems to be housebroken. KNOWN LIKES: Sniffing, attention from friends who move at his speed, fetch, toys, treats. KNOWN DISLIKES: People who move too quickly, loud noises, being alone. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: What impact does the domino effect have on you? Exercise caution, as you might find yourself entranced just as I was. From the very first moment I encountered Domino, I was utterly captivated by him. We spent a delightful afternoon together, lounging on the sofa while I attended to my work. Domino made numerous attempts to assist me; he would perch on my lap and gaze at the computer screen. On occasion, he even attempted to type for me. Although his contributions may not have aligned with my needs, his efforts were nonetheless appreciated. You may wonder where his happy place is, and that is hanging out with his favorite people, moving at his speed. When he adores you, he loves putting himself in your space and receiving attention, but sometimes too much love can be overwhelming for Domino, so he prefers his attention in small bursts. Domino has a fondness for treats and enjoys being in the company of people. He doesn't mind being around dogs, provided they respect his cues when he is ready to conclude playtime. He relishes short cuddles, play sessions with toys, and leisurely walks in tranquil environments. Although he may initially feel anxious when meeting new individuals, he quickly warms up, and once he gets to know you, he wants to spend all his time by your side and would prefer a home with constant human companionship. So, I pose the question once more: What effect does the domino effect have on you? I invite you to visit the adoption center to meet him and discover for yourself what an extraordinary and lovable companion he truly is. Domino was neutered before coming to Homeward Trails. HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines & de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital, Union Veterinary Clinic and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.

Story
Meet Luna! This gorgeous girl was adopted as a four-month-old puppy and had some early training, but unfortunately, her family didn’t continue the structure and training she needed as she matured. Luna is a sensitive, intelligent dog who needs leadership and an engaged environment. Without it, she became anxious and overstimulated and had some guarding issues around the other dog in the home. When we first met Luna, she was heavily medicated. Her owners had consulted a behaviorist who prescribed multiple high-dose anti-anxiety medications, but the problems persisted. We connected them with Brittany, one of our trusted trainers, and recommended a behavioral board-and-train program. Brittany requires all her client dogs to be off medication before training, to address behavior at the root. We’re thrilled to share that Luna is now completely off medication and thriving. She’s thinking clearly, has rediscovered how to be a dog, and continues to progress each day. Despite Luna’s significant improvement, her family ultimately chose to rehome her, feeling they couldn’t meet her needs. Brittany immediately stepped up, offering to foster Luna and continue her training. Luna now lives with Brittany, her husband, and their pack of four dogs, and she’s doing beautifully. About Luna: Luna is affectionate, fun, and full of life. She’s also an active dog with moderate drive. She loves to learn and likes having a job or goals to keep life interesting. She’s not a couch potato; she needs both physical activity and mental stimulation, and does best with an experienced owner who will continue setting clear boundaries. Luna loves: *&#239&#184&#143&#226&#131&#163Training work and learning new skills *&#239&#184&#143&#226&#131&#163Playing ball and frisbee *&#239&#184&#143&#226&#131&#163Walks, hikes, patio outings, and off-leash runs and swimming in the local creek She’s great with people of all ages, but we think a home with older kids would be best. While she has solid social skills with other dogs, she would thrive as an only dog or paired with the right laid-back companion. Her current foster home includes a balanced pack, which has helped her, but resource and hierarchy issues mean it needs to be the right match. Luna has received extensive training and knows commands including: Sit, Down, Heel, Come, Stay, Place, Up Up, Out, Touch, and more. Her adoption includes two private training sessions with Brittany to support her transition and lifetime discounted lessons. Luna is looking for a home that understands her needs, is ready to keep her engaged, and wants to build a deep, rewarding bond with a smart, active girl. If you think you could be the perfect match, or know someone who might be, please reach out or apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Pointer/Staffy Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  63 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 3 years old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Frederick, MD   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Geordi is a pointer-beagle mix with the sweetest heart you've ever known. Though fully-grown, he is still full of puppy energy and loves to bound around the dog park and the yard. He knows how to "sit" and knows that "off" means both "off" and "no." A major cuddlebug, once he calms down from his excitement at seeing you, he is a good little spoon and will tuck his snout under your arm and rest easy. Though I wanted to be able to care for Geordi for his whole life, recent job circumstances have made it untenable for me to continue caring for him past September 2025. I want him to go to a loving, patient home with owners who understand that he is still quite young at 2 years of age and thus needs patience and understanding. Geordi is a very good boy at heart and he will make you laugh every day with his goofiness and his lovable demeanor.

Petey and his three siblings (Baby Farley, Baby Charley and Baby Dill Pickle) came all the way from Alabama and were the result of someone breeding their dogs and then needing to find homes for the puppies. Thankfully, they have been rescued by K-9 Lifesavers and landed nice foster homes. While they have enjoyed being a part of the puppy pile, they are ready to find their respective forever homes. Could that be with you? They are your typical sweet, friendly and playful puppies. At their young ages, they are in their prime for training and socialization too. If you are ready to add a puppy to your family, look no further than Petey! Submit an application today and give this very deserving fella the home of his dreams. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a  tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/  .
