Story

Thomas came to the rescue from the county shelter’s euthanasia list in August of 2023. He was in a severely neglected state to the point where he couldn’t even stand up because he was so underweight and in so much pain. Worse, he was also battling severe pneumonia due to having such a weakened immune system. Under the care of our medical team, poor Thomas underwent an MRI, CT scan, additional bloodwork and x-rays. After all the diagnostics he was diagnosed with rampant valley fever that had taken over his body and fungal osteomyelitis that was attacking his bones as a result. Thankfully, this condition is entirely treatable but has resulted in a longer road to recovery for Thomas. He has overcome his pneumonia and put on much-needed weight. And while his body is still fighting the Valley Fever, Thomas’ quality of life has only continued to improve. He adores his foster home. He now loves to lay between his foster parents’ legs and even will wear pajamas to bed! He also enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, though he definitely wants to spend time snuggling with his people the most. He is house-trained, walks well on a leash and has started learning basic obedience. Thomas’ ideal home would be a quieter household without children and with someone home often who wouldn’t mind going on shorter strolls as he is a bit slower and stiffer when he moves. His long term care will include ongoing Valley Fever treatment. His Valley Fever is not contagious to other humans or pets, but he will need a family committed to continuing his medications and 3-6 month monitoring. We will provide these rechecks and cover the cost of the medications through our foster-to-adopt program. While Thomas loves being in his current foster home, he would love even more to find his forever family. Story

Nick is a 9 month old Shar pei mix (mom Shar pei, dad Rottie mix). This guy has the best of both worlds. He has shar pei smooshiness with a good amount of wrinkles but not so many that you have to worry about his skin but so far none of the shar pei health issues. He might be the only 9 month old shar pei mix that has never had an ear infection! He is a champ at the vet so no need for muzzles unless your vet hates being kissed. He will lay still for his nails to be trimmed. He is house trained and will go to the door when he needs to go outside. He loves playing outside but is also able to chill inside when its nap time for the 2 legged kiddos. Currently he is around 65 lbs. He has a gorgeous soft coat and looks even more wrinkly in person! Nick is crate and dog door trained. He does fine sleeping in his crate at night but also loves to snuggle. He is fostering with kids, cats and other dogs! He is totally fine with the kiddos climbing all over him and loves all their hugs they give him. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and neutered July 26, 2024, 4:27 pm

Story

Well Lobo is a tiny hunk! He is only 28 lbs! This boy is blossoming! He loves going for walks where a week ago he wouldn’t even move an inch on a leash. He adores other dogs and is looking for doggy friends that love to run and wrestle. A week ago we couldn’t get him out of his crate now he could care less. He will bark initially when crated so might not be a good fit for apartment living. Treats were a new thing for him but also one he has recently discovered. He will finally take a treat out of his Foster’s hands! He is a goofy boy who is thriving in an environment of structure. He is still skittish when you go to pet him but that continues to improve. He will also be a great guard dog and alert you to anyone at the door! He has been neutered and had entropion surgery July 26, 2024, 4:27 pm

Jek is our gorgeous white bear coat female that has been the mama to many litters of puppies but now it’s her turn to find her forever home. She is still figuring out this living in a home and being part of a family. We can’t wait to see this girl blossom. This girl is really coming out of her shell in her foster home. She is great with dogs of all sizes including female shar pei. She is doing great about leaving the kitties alone She is fostering with a family with two children so no issues with kids. She discovered toys for the first time this week. She is still scared with new people especially men and loud noises. She will be an amazing girl in a home that is willing to give her time to come out of her shell . She has been spayed, lab work, and entropion surgery. Story

Prime is a great example of the greed we see in some of these dogs that have come from a breeding situation. Prime has had mulitple litters of puppies and her poor body shows just how hard this can be on the dogs when it is not done properly with time between litters for them to heal! She lost an eye before she came to us but despite all of the physical neglect we see what a great girl she will be with lots of patience. Right now she is terrified of her own shadow but she loves other dogs and crazy enough loves kids. Prime update She has been spayed, entropion on her remaining eye, and hernia repair. We have discovered she loves walks and actually walks well on a leash. She will actually even do her “business” on a leash. She has the most gorgeous red brush coat. She did great in the bath tub for her first real bath of her life. She will 100% need to go to a home with other dogs especially friendly well adjusted dogs. She takes many of her cues from other dogs in the home. She is most relaxed with other dogs around her. She is yet another that is going to make her new family work for her love but once you get it there won’t be a more loyal dog. July 26, 2024, 4:27 pm

Story

Some days in rescue you cheer and other days you cry. The day we pulled Cere off her transport from the midwest was a day you wanted to cry. How could anyone neglect this girl like they did? She obviously was used for breeding and with her coloring I am sure they were very sought after puppies that brought in a lot of money but how can you look at her eyes and not feel even the slightest bit of guilt for not spending any of the hard earned money this girl brought in and give her some basic vetting. Enough of that crappy life! This girl is going to be a gem but she is going to make you work for it. She is terrified but in just the few short days she has been in her foster home we have discovered she is curious and is peeking around the corner and observing all the routines. She is no longer scared to death to eat with any commotion. She LOVES other dogs and has started playing as long as no one is watching. She doesn't really want to be touched but freezes when you pick her up and will let you do almost anything to her. Stay tuned as we work some magic on this girl!!
