Story
Gracie is a sweet, friendly, and expressive medium sized girl who loves being part of a family. She gets along well with cats and with other dogs, as long as food time is kept structured. She can be protective of what she thinks is hers, so she does best being fed separately or asked to sit for hand‑fed treats to keep things calm.Gracie is fairly well potty trained with dog‑door access, or if she stays reliable on a consistent potty schedule. She’s a talker with plenty of personality, so she’s better suited to a home that isn’t an apartment.Crating is not her strong suit — she will work hard to break out — so if a crate is ever needed, it must be very sturdy. She thrives in a home where someone is around most of the day and where she can move freely and feel secure.Gracie will be spayed soon, or she can go home under a foster‑to‑adopt arrangement. She’s affectionate, social, and happiest when she has her people close. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. Completing a questionnaire on any other website does not submit an application to our rescue, you must complete one on our website. Story
If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a gentle heart, Abby may be your perfect match. This adorable 2-year-old Poodle weighs just 7–8 pounds and is ready to find a family to call her own.Abby is a sweet, affectionate little girl who absolutely loves to cuddle. Once she trusts you, she’ll happily snuggle up beside you and become your loyal little companion. She can be a bit shy when meeting new people, so she’ll need a patient adopter who will let her settle in at her own pace. Once she warms up, her loving personality truly shines.Abby seems to have a special soft spot for women, though she can also do well in a home with a kind, patient man who understands she may need a little extra time to build confidence. Because she’s a sensitive girl, a home with older, respectful children (high school age or older) would be the best fit. She’s doing very well with house training as long as she’s kept on a regular potty schedule. Abby is also crate trained and sees her crate as her safe space, often choosing to nap there with the door left open. She happily stays in it when you’re away. While toys and treats aren’t what win Abby over, the company of other dogs certainly does! She enjoys having canine friends and will even break out into the cutest little zoomies and play sessions. Watching her confidence grow is truly rewarding. If you’re willing to give Abby the patience and love she deserves, you’ll gain a devoted little best friend who will fill your home with quiet companionship and endless cuddles. Story
Meet Fancy, a beautiful Doodle girl with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life! Sadly, this lovely 64 lb. girl was found as a stray and never reclaimed. Fancy is currently a little underweight, but with proper care and good nutrition, she’ll soon fill out into the gorgeous dog she’s meant to be. She is friendly, active, playful and full of fun. She may be shy when first meeting new people, but she warms up quickly and is eager to make friends. Once she feels comfortable, her happy and affectionate nature shines through. One thing to know about Fancy: this smart girl is an accomplished fence climber! She scaled a 6-foot wooden fence with ease, so she will need careful supervision outdoors and should always remain on leash unless in a very secure environment. Fancy`s adventurous spirit means she’ll thrive with an active adopter who can provide plenty of exercise, structure and companionship. Fancy has tested positive for both Lyme disease and Ehrlilchia, both tick-borne diseases. The positive test result does not mean that she has either disease; it means she has been exposed to them and has antibodies. It`s crucial that she be kept on tick preventatives to avoid further tick bites. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion and are prepared to keep up with this clever, energetic girl, Fancy may be the perfect addition to your family. To meet Fancy, please complete an adoption application online at https://www.mistyeyes.org/adoptionapplication.

Story
Bingo is about 8 years old, weighs around 30 pounds, and has a tight, white curly coat that doesn't shed but requires brushing (which he hates) and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. My husband and I have had Bingo for just over three years. He's a sweet dog, but he's also a bit of a handful. He has severe anxiety around the vet and groomer and must be medicated with Trazodone and Acepromazine before visits. He's also prone to environmental allergies and ear infections but won't let anyone touch or clean his ears. Bingo is mostly housebroken but may occasionally pee in the basement if he's not let out first thing in the morning or "spite poop" when he's grumpy. He loves walks, car rides, treats, cuddles, tearing apart toys, and shredding tissues. Bingo needs a patient, experienced owner. He'd do well in a home with kids 5 , dogs, or cats. He's a loving companion, but his care is costly and more involved than most.

Meet Artie ❤️If you're looking for a best friend who's equal parts goofy, loving, adventurous, and adorable, Artie may just be your perfect match.Artie came to DeKalb Humane Society from the amazing team at Shadarobah, who worked incredibly hard to help this sweet boy and give him the fresh start he deserves. He was transferred to us in hopes of finding his perfect forever family, and we're excited to help him get there. This handsome wire-haired mixed breed has the sweetest soul and a personality that shines once he gets comfortable. Artie loves spending time with his people, exploring the outdoors, running zoomies through the yard, and rolling dramatically in the dirt like it's his full-time job. He finds joy in the simple things—sunshine, fresh air, muddy paws, and a good belly rub. While Artie is incredibly loving with the people he knows and trusts, he can be nervous around new people and busy environments. Because of this, he would do best in a quieter, lower-traffic home where he can take his time getting comfortable. Artie isn't the type of dog who wants to meet every stranger right away—he prefers slow introductions and a chance to build trust at his own pace. Once he feels safe, his affectionate and playful personality truly shines.Artie would thrive with a family who understands that not every dog is a social butterfly and is willing to help him navigate new situations with patience and encouragement. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who forms deep bonds and loves wholeheartedly. He also loves spending time outdoors and would be thrilled to have a family that enjoys adventures as much as he does. And while he may come home a little dusty from his explorations, that scruffy coat is part of his charm! Because of his unique wire-haired coat, Artie will need regular grooming or a family willing to keep up with his coat care to keep him comfortable and looking handsome. If you're searching for a devoted companion with a goofy personality, a loving heart, and the cutest scruffy face around, Artie is waiting to meet you. ❤️An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00
