Story
Knox is a sweet, loving, and incredibly loyal dog looking for a new home where he can receive the time, attention, and companionship he deserves. For the past 5 years, he has been a cherished member of a family with two young children and has grown up as a loving part of their everyday lives.Knox loves being around his people and is happiest when he can be part of the family. He is affectionate, playful, loyal, and has so much love to give.As work, school, and the children’s activities have become increasingly demanding, the family has found it harder to give Knox the time and attention he deserves. As difficult as the decision is, they believe finding him a home with more time for him is the right thing to do.Knox can occasionally become anxious when he feels scared or threatened, but with patience, reassurance, and understanding, he does very well. We are hoping to find him a loving family who will give him the attention, companionship, and love he deserves.

Story
Meet Paul!Paul is a hound mix that has a beagle sized body with floppy ears and possibly the look of a black and tan coonhound coloring and face shape and who knows what else might be mixed in there. He weighs 44 pounds and has a very sweet personality. His previous owners were unable to keep him but describe him as being playful, loving, cuddly, and very friendly. He does jump up on people when he meets them out of friendliness and excitement and he is known to be friendly with all dogs. In his previous life he lived successfully with adults, cats and dogs and is crate trained being left alone 4-6 hours without a problem. If Paul sounds like the dog you are looking for please drop by our Boston branch to meet him. He will be worth the trip into the city - he`s a good boy!My friends describe me as: Nosey, Affectionate and AdventurousPaul is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team.We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. For more information on this or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston please visit us during our adoption center hours: Wednesdays-Sundays from 1:00PM – 6:00PM, Tuesdays by appointment only from 1:00PM – 6:00PM, closed Mondays & Holidays. For information about our adoption process click here

Story
Diamond, named for the distinctive diamond-shaped patch on her back, was found by a Good Samaritan on the side of the road and was brought to Happy Life through one of our rescue partners. This friendly, sweet beagle mix is about a year old and weighs 35 pounds. She is an outgoing, energetic, and playful young dog with a lot of personality. She can be crated but tends to bark when she can see you. Diamond has serious FOMO (fear of missing out) and wants to be involved in everything. She gets bored easily and will thrive with an active and engaged owner. She loves to climb and jump, showing surprising agility and plenty of excited puppy energy, with not a mean bone in her body. She genuinely wants to be loved and to make those around her happy. Diamond is working on learning to walk on leash. Her excitement causes her to pull quite a bit. She will do best in a home with a fenced yard and an adopter ready to patiently work with her. She is a happy, bouncy girl who likes to jump to say hello. Although friendly with everyone, would likely knock over young children or seniors unsteady on their feet. Diamond will be heading north once an adopter or foster is found.

Story
Rex is a 3 1/2-year-old Beagle/Australian Shepherd mix who is ready to find his forever home. Rex forms deep bonds with his person and is incredibly loving once he feels safe and comfortable. He isn’t the kind of dog for everyone—but for the right person and in the right environment, he will be a very loyal and devoted companion. Rex needs to be with an experienced human, preferably with some experience with herding breeds. This is not a beginner dog. He needs someone committed to providing structure, ongoing training and both mental and physical motivation. He needs an adult-only, pet-free home where he is the sole focus, and his boundaries are consistently understood and respected. Experience handling resource guarding would be helpful. Rex needs time to build trust with his human. His forever family will need to be dog savvy, understanding the importance of respecting his boundaries and recognizing the subtle cues a dog gives when it's uncomfortable, to avoid pushing him beyond his comfort level. Rex appreciates having his personal space honored, especially when resting, so it's imperative that he is the one who approaches for affection, not the other way around. The reward for your restraint is that when he comes to you, it's because he truly wants that connection. He needs a home where he is allowed to settle in at his own pace and where the humans possess the self-control to let Rex truly learn to trust - even if it takes months or years. His people must understand that they can't let their guard down after a couple of weeks. His affection and approach don’t mean you're in the clear. It means he's starting to trust. A pattern of slow, clear, consistent interactions with him combined with structure and predictability will help the trust grow and strengthen. We believe that with an owner who is serious about building a relationship with him, he will be able to trust and will be a great dog. He's done very well with a foster who has worked with him in this way, so we know he's capable.
