Meet Georgi! She is a stunningly beautiful 10 mo old female Weimaraner/American Pitbull mix that weighs 33lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/18 as a stray. Georgi is a sweet gentle and loving girl. She enjoys being petted and loved on, and will jump on you, tho gently, just to be close. She walks ok on a leash and takes treats gently. Walking through the bay with dogs barking at her, some she showed no interest and others she showed dog reactivity. We would advise if there is another dog in the home, to please ask the shelter for a dog test. She may need to be the only dog in the home. Georgi deserves to have her own secured yard to play in, but most importantly live indoors with her loving family companions. Its very easy to see how much love she has to give and definitely would be a great cuddlebug. Come meet this charming girl named Georgi.

This is Gwen! She was brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 10/17. Gwen weighs 39 pounds, is about one year old and is spayed. And oh those ears!! This very attractive highly photogenic girl is a real charmer! She walks well on a leash and she did her business outside in the yard. She is high energy and does jump on you. Manners training would be beneficial in helping her to fit in well with her new family. She will need an active person or family member who would give her the enrichment, exercise and playtime she needs in order to work out that abundance of energy she has. She is playful, friendly, and A-OK with receiving loving attention. She has a confident and outgoing personality. I feel this sweet girl has the potential to be a devoted and loving family pet.

Meet Beau: The Jovial and Trainable Senior Weimaraner Beau is a sweet, 10-year-old Weimaraner with a friendly and jovial personality—especially when treats are involved! He’s highly social and forms strong bonds with other dogs, showing some anxiety when separated from his canine companion, Booray. Because of this, Beau would thrive in a home with another dog for company. While Beau is generally confident, he does get nervous during storms. A thunder coat and possibly trazodone may help him feel more secure during bad weather. He’s also showing great promise in training, responding well to leash pressure and beginning to learn the Heel command. Although he has some trouble sitting due to hip discomfort, he’s highly trainable and would benefit from full obedience training to boost his confidence and independence. Beau is still working on his potty training and may mark or urinate indoors, possibly as a reaction to another dog in the home. He needs a clear routine, crate training, and positive reinforcement for going outside. With consistent guidance and structure, Beau will quickly learn the rules and become a well-mannered companion. Lolo is a 2.5-3 year old weim mix, but 100% velcro dog and weim smart. You won't meet a more affectionate pup. He constantly wants to give kisses, hugs or a shake. Fully expect for him to follow you room to room if you're his lucky person. He hops when excited (often), and nothing makes him happier than seeing his leash out to get ready to go for a jog. He does need more work on the leash for pulling - especially if there's a squirrel in sight! Harness is strongly recommended. Lolo is gaining confidence and learning how to play with both toys and other dogs. He is dog friendly, but can get overwhelmed with too many dogs at once. He's great with groups of people though, and is small kid friendly. Cats are unknown. Lolo would do best in a home with a work from or stay at home person. He took to house training quickly, but he does experience separation anxiety. He's not destructive when left loose, but would strongly recommended a travel crate or barrier when driving. He gets very excited, and wants all 68 lbs of him to be on your lap while driving. He does appear to have some allergies to monitor, but hasn't met a treat he didn't like if any medicine is needed, or in general. Meet Booray! Booray is a sweet 12-year-old senior boy who is a treat-motivated dog and who listens well and responds nicely to leash guidance. He quickly picked up basic commands like Heel and Sit, even with distractions nearby, showing impressive concentration and willingness to learn. Booray thrives with positive reinforcement and is eager to please, making him a great candidate for full obedience training to build his confidence and help with general anxiety. Booray has some hearing and vision impairments, so he relies heavily on his sense of smell. He can be startled if approached unexpectedly, especially when resting, so announcing your presence with his name and a clap is recommended. Because of this, Booray would do best in a home without children. He’s learning crate training and has shown little anxiety so far. Booray is also working on being comfortable with having his collar touched, and responds well to gentle, reward-based desensitization. While Booray may be a bit nervous with strangers at first, he warms up quickly—especially if treats are involved! He’s friendly and gentle when taking treats, though he can get a bit snappy if another dog is too close during treat time. Booray’s foster notes that he’s scared of storms, so a thunder coat or medication like Trazodone may help him feel more secure during bad weather. Potty training is ongoing, and Booray benefits from a consistent routine and monitored breaks. He can be an only dog as long as he receives plenty of attention, and doesn’t require anxiety medication except possibly for storms. Booray is looking for a loving, patient home where he can continue to grow in confidence and enjoy plenty of treats, training, and affection! When you walk in the bay where Darby is she lets you know she’s there! She can be vocal. She’s a 3 yr-old 73lb English pointer/German shorthair pointer that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/31 as a stray. She’s very active but once out of the kennel, she settled down somewhat. She does sit for treats and takes them gently. When I called her from across the yard she came running to me. When I sat down, she came to me and wanted to get on my lap. But she also wanted to get my treats out of my pocket. She likes you to throw a ball for her and she will retrieve it. She has a lot of energy and will need a lot of exercise and enrichment. She is a really good dog, but her energy will need to be channeled. She does have a strong pull on the leash. She will need a large space to run in, but after she has run her energy out, she would love to be indoors, cuddling on the couch or in her own bed to be close to her family companions.

RESCUE ONLYMeet Eli! He is a 1 yr old neutered male Pointer/Cattle dog mix that weighs 40lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 11/18 as a stray. Upon arrival, Eli had injuries to his back left leg. He was taken to the vet, then released to the shelter a few days later. He has been healing and has been able to put weight on his leg. He still needs more time to recover, and the reason he is rescue only. He has an exuberant personality. Always happy, smile on his face, and wanting to race around the shelter yard as fast as he can. He loves chasing balls, so its clear to see once he is healed, having an active family to take him for walks and give him plenty of enrichment is what he needs. Having to be on crate rest has made him a bit stir crazy and he will bark and whine in excitement when he goes out to play. Eli loves to be petted and loved on and takes treats gently. I feel eventually he will walk well on a leash, once he is able to play more frequently. He doesn`t show any interests in the other dogs, yet a dog test can be requested of the shelter. Eli has alot of love to give, can one of our rescues help him on his path to a loving family?
