Story
Meet Booray! Booray is a sweet 13-year-old senior boy who is a treat-motivated dog and who listens well and responds nicely to leash guidance. He quickly picked up basic commands like Heel and Sit, even with distractions nearby, showing impressive concentration and willingness to learn. Booray thrives with positive reinforcement and is eager to please. Booray has some hearing and vision impairments, so he relies heavily on his sense of smell. He can be startled if approached unexpectedly, especially when resting, so announcing your presence with his name and a clap is recommended. Because of this, Booray would do best in a home without children. He’s learning crate training and has shown little anxiety so far. Booray is also working on being comfortable with having his collar touched, and responds well to gentle, reward-based desensitization. While Booray may be a bit nervous with strangers at first, he warms up quickly—especially if treats are involved! He’s friendly and gentle when taking treats, though he can get a bit snappy if another dog is too close during treat time. Booray’s foster notes that he’s scared of storms, so a thunder coat or medication like Trazodone may help him feel more secure during bad weather. Booray is looking for a loving, patient home where he can continue to grow in confidence and enjoy plenty of treats, training, and affection! He's located in Dallas if you are interested in adopting this senior boy. ##2401169##

Story
Hi, I’m Din! I’m a healthy 65-pound boy around 5 years old. I’m up to date on my shots, neutered and best of all… heartworm negative! My Foster Mom calls me her unicorn with trust issues. Let me explain… When I first arrived here, unknown noises like blinds closing or lawn mowers blaring outside made me walk away with my ears back. I was only comfortable with head pets. I growled low if petting was attempted further back, but my foster family gave me lots of time and space so after a few weeks, I felt safe and loved and they can now gently massage my whole back and legs. Now, belly rubs are my favorite! But I’m still not a big fan of noisy lawn equipment. What makes me a unicorn? So many things! I don’t love going into the kennel, but with a treat and a hand on my collar, I go in and lay down for some rest. I keep telling my foster family that I can hang out in the house without being destructive, but they haven’t let me prove it to them, yet. I haven’t counter-surfed – not even once! I didn’t even take a piece of chicken off my foster mom’s plate on the desk when she left it… and it would’ve been an easy sneak! I don’t beg when they’re eating dinner and I crack everyone up when I put my whole face in the water to drink. I also quickly learned the kitchen boundary when my people are cooking, so I don’t get under-foot. My foster mom says I’m a quick study – I can jingle the bells to ask to go out. I’ve even learned that I can push a little button on the ground to ring a doorbell that tells them I would like to come in. I don’t pull on the leash during walks, except when I see snack-sized dogs, deer, or birds. Then my sole attention is given to those shiny objects. And I don’t need marathon-length walks. I’m quite happy laying around at home with my foster mom during the day and then taking a mile or two walk after dinner. But I never say no to a quick walk during lunch. I’ve also been learning commands like sit, down, wait, and come, but I showed my foster family that I respond well to Spanish commands, so I’m learning to be bilingual! My foster family has also allowed me to sleep on the bed with my Foster Brother. He really wanted me to sleep with him, but I wasn’t sure what that was about. With lots of encouragement and some treats, I figured out how to get up there and I just LOVE it! But I also responded quickly to a firm “NO” and “OFF” when I tried to get on the couch or Foster Mom/Dad’s bed. I never did that again! Toys haven’t interested me much. My people here have been giving me all kinds of things to play with, but it wasn’t until I got to play with our neighbors’ dogs (2 Golden Retrievers and a German Shepherd mix) that I realized I can chase a ball! I love to chase it but bringing it back to you is not on my agenda. I really love wrestling with the neighbor’s German Shepherd. We chase each other and climb all over each other. It’s so fun that I run to the fence looking for them all day long. My only health issue is mild hip dysplasia. The doctor said it’s not bad enough to warrant intervention yet since I don’t show symptoms (other than some sensitivity to touch on my hips) and that I should have a good long life with proper care and love. Life has been great here and I love my foster family. But they keep telling me I’m going to get the best forever family and that I’m going to love you for the rest of my life! I’m so ready to meet you! I’m hoping you’ll give me plenty of time to get to know and trust you. I promise I’ll show you all the love, if you do! And I’d love it if you have bigger dogs already for me to play with. Older kid-siblings would probably be best since the little ones’ unpredictable movements still scare me. If you think you’re destined to be my forever family, please fill out the adoption application and let’s get this ball rolling!  I’m located in the DFW metroplex if you’d like to meet me. ##2694592##

Story
Romeo oh Romeo.  Romeo is a very handsome 4 year old male coming in right around 80lbs. Although he is a Big boy he would love to lay in your lap at night when it’s time for snuggles. During the day he loves to play with his foster siblings outside. His favorite activity is digging holes while hunting lizards under rocks. He is dog door trained. It would be best for him to have access to outside when needed.  An ideal home for Romeo would have other dogs for him to wrestle and hunt with as well as a nice property for him to explore. He has always been with at least one other dog and does great in a pack environment. He is not the alpha and likes to just go along. He loves to explore and go on adventures. He has a great nose and will bring home all sorts of special gifts such as animal remains or armadillo shells.  If you give him the opportunity to be naughty he will. He will counter surf if items are there as well as get into trash if he can open it. Does great unsupervised, not in a crate, with sibling as long as food and trash are secured. If crated use caution with his tail. He has an unaltered tail that likes to bleed on the tip when constantly hitting the crate or wall.  Romeo is in the San Antonio area if you are interested in adopting him. ##2418299##

Story
Molly is a sweet and happy five year old girl.  She's put on a bit of weight in her middle aged years but is making progress in getting back to her normal weight.  She's been an only dog her whole life and enjoys the attention of her person.  If a potential adopter has another dog in the home, she would probably prefer a slower moving dog than another Weimaraner or similar high energy dog, as she misinterprets rough play as something more than it is.  She's not one to bite, but can be fearful if things get too chaotic with another dog or dogs.  At doggie daycare, she is mostly interested in the people, than the other dogs. But will run with other dogs for awhile as long as things don't get too crazy.  Her previous owner said she's kid friendly, for kids a bit older, like 11+.   Her favorite past time is being at the feet of her person.  So she would love someone who is home most of the time, like retired or working from home, but she needs someone who will give her regular exercise - to get those extra pounds off.  Don't we all!   ##2740450##

Story
Hank is a very happy to be with people. He greets us enthusiastically, wagging his tail with a big grin on his face. He loves to be in the same room with us and wants to try to sit in our laps at any opportunity. He is very motivated by treats and affection/praise. We have started working on “stay”and “come” and have seen some improvements in just a few days. We had a tutor come over and, after the initial excitement (wagging tail, a bit of trying to be right in her space), he calmed down and did very well with her here at the house. I can see him being a really great pet to someone that can provide him structure and training.    We have had some instances of resource guarding. He is very motivated to give the ball or other item up when given a treat. We have even had some success asking him to “drop” without a treat since starting to work on this.   He loves to go on walks, but pulls very hard on the leash. He needs a collar or harness that he can’t escape from as he will throw his whole body around and try to pull you when he sees another dog or cat. He is super happy to crash for a while after a walk. Although very strong, he seems like a medium energy dog for a Weimaraner. He’s very happy to be a couch potato as long as he gets some exercise during the day, too.   He would do very well in a house with older kids or even younger kids if they can understand that there are rules about how to approach/interact with Hank. He gets very excited and wants to play too roughly.   Has not had a lot of exposure to other dogs but does get along with Chase who is another neutered male in rescue.  ##2731745##

Hunter is a 50 lbs bundle of love and is about 1.5 years old.  He LOVES his humans and just wants to please you and make you happy. He was found in an industrial area begging for food. He would be best as an only dog and in a home with older children.  Donate at codysfriendsrescue.org to help us save more lives! https://codysfriendsrescue.org/donate ##837585##
