Story
Meet HIROMI HIROMI was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving. After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit. Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising. Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA! Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons. Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog. She is approx 4 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is also crate and house trained. She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?! Story
What kind of person drops off their beloved family member at a boarding facility, says they’ll be back in two days and is never seen or heard from again? After multiple attempts, the staff finally reached the owners. Their response was they were not coming back for him. Imagine you are Ponyo, waiting day after day, and one day becomes two, then two days becomes a week and then a month. At what point do dogs give up hope? Akitas are known for their fierce loyalty and devotion. Sadly, in this instance his loyalty was rewarded with betrayal. Thankfully, Ponyo is resilient and his joy of freedom overshadowed his despair. He’s 4yrs old and is a happy, fun-loving boy. He is best as an only dog and requires an experienced Akita owner. Ponyo is settling in and is getting plenty of attention, interaction and enrichment. Story
Meet TOBI We don't know much about Tobi's past, but his future is very bright. He is a big boy with a heart the size to match. He is a gentle giant with a gregarious, carefree attitude and is eager to learn and experience the world. He is game for adventure and deserves to have that special someone to accompany him in life. Tobi is playful and has a welcoming aura about him. He also has an unabashed, confident side to him. He's just not sure how he ended up here, and we're making sure he never has to wonder that ever again. He is best as an only dog and someone with previous Akita experience is best. Tobi is approximately 5 yrs old, and due to his size should be on a good quality joint supplement. He's only been with us a short time, so will need to gain a few pounds to look his best, but he's already on his way to showing us his beautiful soul. Story
Meet Emi Emi’s sleek, brindle coat is a thing of beauty and so magnificent to behold. Engaging, charismatic, gregarious, and spirited are the first things you sense about her from the moment she enters a room. Emi exudes a brand of joy that makes her impossible to resist! Not until you witness her graceful elegance and see a bit of frost around her muzzle, do you realize she is a senior beauty with an abundance of life experiences to share. She’s 8 yrs old and has found herself homeless, but she’s seen enough in life to know there’s still a wonderous journey ahead. She is a lover of people and she’d much rather be enjoying a fun adventure with you by her side on interesting walks or trips to the beach, than be left at home alone. She needs to be an only dog and is not suitable with cats. She is approximately 60 lbs. and seems unaware she has some arthritis and hip dysplasia. But as you can see, she enjoys playing with her toys and doing tricks for treats. Her healthy curiosity keeps her engaged in life’s adventures, though she also loves her beauty naps. Please don’t let her age deter you from considering giving her a home. Her heart is overflowing with love. If you are interested in Emi, please complete our adoption application in the link below. Story
Meet Shasta, a gorgeous female Siberian Husky! This beauty may be a little more mature, but she has lots of spurts of playful puppy energy out in the yard! She's easy-going and enjoys walks with her people, basking in the sun, and belly rubs! Those familiar with huskies will recognize their breed for their loyal nature. While very affectionate, we feel since she is older, she would be happiest that she be the only animal in the house. We observed some resource guarding (think food bowl) that she is constantly improving on. Shasta is a loving girl who would make an excellent companion to a lucky adopter. Story
This is Devereaux! This 3-year-old ice blue eyed beauty is HIGHLY INTELLEGENT yet snuggly too.  Surprising since he was dumped on the streets and not claimed.  Dev has moved on emotionally and ready for a new and loving forever family to love and care for him. Ideally, we would prefer a home with an experienced breed owner as Huskies will be Huskies and can get up to trouble if not kept busy and happy. Long walks hikes every day would be his dream.  Dev enjoys chasing the balls around but will not retrieve them back to you. He also likes tug o war, Dev is at his most loving when he has played, and it is time to relax some.  He will put his nose under your hand or arm to get you to pet him. He is allowed on the sofa at his foster home and nothing more than when she sits down for the night, and it is his turn to snuggle. Dev can and will jump a shorter fencing but seems to be happy with his foster mom as he has not done that stunt yet. Dev enjoys playing with other dogs he knows and is well socialized dogs and enjoys the dogs who like to wrestle the most.   Dev also likes puppies so if you have a up who needs a playmate, Dev is the dog for you.  He also is not yet totally potty trained.  This we feel is because he was left outside full time. Dev is highly intelligent and will need enrichment items or things to do when alone to be happiest. Foster uses a strong leash as he can get upset when he sees another dog. Dev is available to meet by appt with an approved application.  He is fostered in Fairfield     Come see this pup on Saturdays during adoption event hours. Please email Linda at lbredfire@sbcglobal.net or call WT&F's Dog Team voicemail 707-812-9030 to get a jump on the process, ask questions, and/or to confirm they will be there. Dog adoptions are held outside Napa Petco every Saturday - 12:30pm to 4:00pm. This dog comes spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and more with an adoption fee/donation to Whiskers, Tails and Ferals in Napa, CA.
