Story
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, and one look into Igor's ice-blue gaze will stop you in your tracks. This striking black-and-white Siberian Husky has been waiting for the one person who will look right back and say, "I've got you." Igor hasn't had the easiest road. He hasn't found a place to call home yet, not because he isn't worthy, but because the right match hasn't come along. He needs someone who understands that the best things take time and patience. About Igor True to his Husky roots, Igor is an escape artist, he's clever, curious, and always looking for adventure just beyond the fence line. He has already completed training and is currently enrolled in an active training program specifically focused on his separation anxiety. He's putting in the work; now he just needs a home that will honor that effort. Igor does best with larger dogs and would thrive alongside a calm, confident canine companion. He is not a good fit for homes with small dogs or cats. Igor doesn't need perfection, he needs permanence. He needs someone who will look into those ice-blue eyes, see the dog he's becoming, and choose him anyway. If that sounds like you, Igor has been waiting to meet you.

Story
Note: Special Needs Dog due to Behavior/Shyness. This dog is bonded and must be adopted with Pepe. Are you looking for a gorgeous dog? What about a very shy dog? If you answered yes to both of these questions, Chee Yoo could be the perfect dog for you. Chee Yoo is a beautiful, 5 yo medium/large female dog that came to Jelly's Place from South Korea in July 2021. Why has such a wonderful dog not been adopted yet? Read further to find out. Chee Yoo is very timid and nervous around people. She LOVES other dogs, and has become best friends with another Jelly's dog named Pepe. Pepe has a very similar personality to Chee Yoo and the two of them are like 2 peas in a pod. Chee Yoo can guard her food which is not surprising given where she came from. So, care needs to be taken with another dog when food, especially high value foods, are around. During her time at Jelly's Place, Chee Yoo has gone from hiding in the corner to taking daily walks on a leash. She is becoming more comfortable and confident, but still has a long way to go. She has learned to trust her primary caregiver, but is still not comfortable interacting with other people. Chee Yoo would do best in a calm, quiet home with dog experience and older or no children. Chee Yoo is NOT a dog for first time adopters. She needs adopters who are willing to be patient and to give her the time and space she needs to feel comfortable, confident and loved. Another dog in the home is essential. and we prefer to keep Chee Yoo with her buddy Pepe. If you are interested in adopting Chee Yoo, we recommend that you come and spend time with her on several occasions so that she becomes comfortable with you. Chee Yoo is UTD on vaccines, spayed and microchipped. Applications are being accepted and qualified applicants will be contacted.

Story
Jabulani, lovingly nicknamed Jabu for short, is a sweet girl looking to affectionately nuzzle her way into your heart! This precious girl absolutely adores being in the company of her human companions. She greets everyone she meets with a curly tailed tail wag and lots of slobbery kisses. She also makes sure to show off her agile spins and funny vocalizations to wow her new friends. She is an energetic and active pup that would love to go for long walks, spend some time playing fetch in the yard, training using positive reinforcement methods, and enjoying a nice food puzzle. Jabu is also a gold medalist at tug-of-war and an expert in squeeky toys. You can see Jabu in action in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/j9ZpmzAYeRg Petite and beautiful at 62 pounds and 11 years, Jabu prefers to be the apple of her person's eye, for this reason she would be perfectly happy as a solo dog. This elegant and refined young lady would prefer a home without tiny little hands as she enjoys her space after meals and that can be hard for kiddos to understand. Jabu really loves her people and can be heard whining and complaining when left at home alone. With some support from our behavior team you should be able to work through her very mild separation anxiety.Overall, Jabu is a smart and bouncy girl, spinning around when she gets excited and even loves exploring the beach and dipping her paws in the ocean with her humans. This sweet girl joined us after her guardian sadly passed away unexpectedly. Are you interested in learning more about Jabulani? Story
My name is Nike and I am a spayed female, black and white Akita and Siberian Husky. The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 10-months old. I have been at the shelter since January 15, 2026 Meet Nike, the Akita Siberian Husky Mix! Nike arrived at the Shelter by no fault of her own – her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Nike has been described as energetic and friendly with people. She enjoys going for walks and runs. She’s lived with children ages 5, 8 and 9 years of age as well as teenagers and did well with them. She was crated when left alone for a few hours and was eager to reconnect with her family when they came home. Nike is a smart cookie and comes with a whole vocabulary of things she knows including: “sit”, “lay down”, “high five”, “shake”, “wait”, “slow down”, and “come here”. She would love to work her brain with her new family (and bond through positive reinforcement based training. Nike enjoys riding in the car on her way to adventures. She can be selective in her dog friends (liking some but not others) so if there are any resident dogs in the home, it would be recommended they meet prior to adoption. Nike's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Nike’s Animal ID is A327886 For more information about Nike or to meet her, please contact: Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter 1001 Rodriguez Street Santa Cruz, CA 95062 831-454-7200 www.scanimalshelter.org Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11am to 6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them. Story
Kuma is a male Akita Mix that is about one to two years old. He still squats to pee! He is such a sweet boy with a happy-go-lucky temperament and medium energy. He has shown to do well with other dogs big and small. He is playful when they want to play and takes social cues well. He is very well-mannered. Kuma loves to do tricks for treats, go for walks, and get all the pets and attention he can.  Our shelter is overflowing and we are having to double/triple up on kennels. Kuma is in desperate need to find his positive outcome.   Please let us know if you can help this sweet boy! Story
Meet Emi Our Graceful Survivor Searching for Her Forever Home. For more than two long years, Emi has been patiently waiting for the day she can finally go home. That’s an incredible show of strength for any dog, but for a senior like Emi it’s pure resilience of heart and spirit. Once a beloved family companion, Emi has faced her time in rescue with quiet dignity and balance. Like the Yin and Yang she seems to embody, Emi has learned to find peace in the in-between, accepting her life in transition while still holding onto hope. Despite her time in care, Emi remains a radiant soul, endearing, mischievous, and deeply loving. She moves with grace and elegance, her beautiful brindle coat gleaming as she trots happily beside you on her short walks. She loves affection, engaging with her people and, of course crinkly toys and tasty treats! At around 10 years old, Emi still has that classic Akita spirit, a touch of independence and a sparkle of opinionated charm. She manages some mild arthritis with anti-inflammatories, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying playtime or soaking up sunshine in the yard. Emi would flourish in a home without other dogs or cats so she can shower you with all her love. What Emi needs most now is what every dog deserves: a soft place to land, a family to call her own, and the comfort of knowing she’s home at last. Please consider opening your heart and home to this extraordinary girl. Whether through adoption or as a permanent foster, you could be the one to give Emi the peace, love, and security she’s been waiting for all this time. She’s ready….she just needs someone to finally say, “Welcome home, Emi!” Interested in adopting? Story
Hi, I'm Payaso! I'm a shepherd/husky/giraffe mix who loves a game of fetch with my favorite baguette toy. I thrive on hikes, runs, and walks - anything to keep me moving and exploring. Other dogs out for their walks don't bother me - I don't always want to say hi, but I just stay calm and keep sniffing (or eating treats!). I'm smart and quick to learn new tricks - I even have a nosework diploma under my belt! Once I'm tuckered out, I'm happy to lie on the couch with you and watch TV. I'm looking for a forever home where I can share my playful, goofy spirit and endless affection. Adopt me, and let's start our adventure together! Story
Rosie is a sweet Siberian Husky with a touch of sass and wild spirit—true to her name, inspired by the Wild Rose, the official flower of Alberta, where she’s been fostered for the past three months. Rosie’s story almost ended too soon. She was abandoned by her owner at a crowded shelter and placed on the euthanasia list after she stopped eating out of depression. Thankfully, she was rescued just in time—and it turns out she does eat (and loves every bite)! We believe Rosie spent much of her early life tied up outside, with little exercise and minimal human contact. She also shows signs of past mistreatment. When she first arrived, she was terrified of everything. Over time, with love and patience, she’s begun to open up in the most heartwarming ways. But her progress is still ongoing—she’s shy, skittish around new experiences, and will need a home that understands that healing takes time. Rosie is terrified of children, so she needs a calm, stable, and kid-free home. She’ll thrive best with patient, loving adults who can provide structure and reassurance. She also loves having a dog best friend—another gentle, confident dog helps her feel more secure and playful. As Rosie’s confidence has grown, so has her personality. Once thought to be low energy, she’s now showing her mischievous, funny side. She adores running, exploring, and chasing squirrels—and when she feels safe, she’ll seek out belly rubs and snuggles that will melt your heart. She may not know all her commands yet, but she’s clever in her own way, and with love and consistency, she’ll continue to blossom. Rosie’s looking for a home where she can feel truly safe and finally learn that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

Story
Bowser is an 8-year-old husky with a heart far bigger than the challenges he’s faced. Blind, gentle, and incredibly resilient, Bowser was heartbreakingly dumped by the family he trusted most. Through it all, he has remained calm, affectionate, and full of quiet strength. Despite being blind, Bowser navigates the world with impressive confidence. He memorizes his surroundings quickly, follows familiar voices, and relies on his other senses to guide him. He loves soft beds, calm routines, and being near his people. Bowser is incredibly sweet and trusting, leaning in for affection and soaking up every gentle word and touch. Bowser would do best in a loving, patient home that understands his blindness does not define him—it simply means he experiences the world a little differently. He doesn’t need pity; he needs kindness, stability, and someone willing to see how special he truly is. If you have room in your heart and home for a truly special companion, Bowser is ready to show you what unconditional love really looks like.
