Story
Meet HIROMI HIROMI was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving. After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit. Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising. Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA! Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons. Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog. She is approx 4 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is also crate and house trained. She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?! Story
What kind of person drops off their beloved family member at a boarding facility, says they’ll be back in two days and is never seen or heard from again? After multiple attempts, the staff finally reached the owners. Their response was they were not coming back for him. Imagine you are Ponyo, waiting day after day, and one day becomes two, then two days becomes a week and then a month. At what point do dogs give up hope? Akitas are known for their fierce loyalty and devotion. Sadly, in this instance his loyalty was rewarded with betrayal. Thankfully, Ponyo is resilient and his joy of freedom overshadowed his despair. He’s 4yrs old and is a happy, fun-loving boy. He is best as an only dog and requires an experienced Akita owner. Ponyo is settling in and is getting plenty of attention, interaction and enrichment. Story
Meet TOBI We don't know much about Tobi's past, but his future is very bright. He is a big boy with a heart the size to match. He is a gentle giant with a gregarious, carefree attitude and is eager to learn and experience the world. He is game for adventure and deserves to have that special someone to accompany him in life. Tobi is playful and has a welcoming aura about him. He also has an unabashed, confident side to him. He's just not sure how he ended up here, and we're making sure he never has to wonder that ever again. He is best as an only dog and someone with previous Akita experience is best. Tobi is approximately 5 yrs old, and due to his size should be on a good quality joint supplement. He's only been with us a short time, so will need to gain a few pounds to look his best, but he's already on his way to showing us his beautiful soul. Story
Meet Emi Emi’s sleek, brindle coat is a thing of beauty and so magnificent to behold. Engaging, charismatic, gregarious, and spirited are the first things you sense about her from the moment she enters a room. Emi exudes a brand of joy that makes her impossible to resist! Not until you witness her graceful elegance and see a bit of frost around her muzzle, do you realize she is a senior beauty with an abundance of life experiences to share. She’s 8 yrs old and has found herself homeless, but she’s seen enough in life to know there’s still a wonderous journey ahead. She is a lover of people and she’d much rather be enjoying a fun adventure with you by her side on interesting walks or trips to the beach, than be left at home alone. She needs to be an only dog and is not suitable with cats. She is approximately 60 lbs. and seems unaware she has some arthritis and hip dysplasia. But as you can see, she enjoys playing with her toys and doing tricks for treats. Her healthy curiosity keeps her engaged in life’s adventures, though she also loves her beauty naps. Please don’t let her age deter you from considering giving her a home. Her heart is overflowing with love. If you are interested in Emi, please complete our adoption application in the link below. Kazhem is a very handsome, somewhat shy Akita mix who warms up slowly to new people. But once he is comfortable he will share his goofy personality with you, running zoomies in the grass and showing off his great smile and happy tail wag.He gets along great with other dogs on the beach, the trails and probably in the dog park, but would prefer to be the only doggo in his forever home. Once Kazhem bonds with you he`s very devoted and wants to be with you all the time. Retirees, professionals who work at home, and anyone else who could make him a part of their daily life would be his dream family!

Story
Eva was initially a stray and since adoption has shown significant separation anxiety. She is incredibly sweet and loving but the separation anxiety has been a challenge for our family. She will pace for hours and has on occasion scratched at the door or window while we have left her home. We’ve also tried to leave her in the backyard for short periods of times (i.e. school drop off) and she has jumped our nearly 6 foot fence. She has always been good with other dogs. She loves belly rubs, going to the dog park and playing tug. She also loves walking and is a good running buddy, but she’s also very strong and is difficult to handle because she pulls a lot. For the right family she would be an amazing dog, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be our family despite many efforts. Perhaps a family with more experience with a dog would be a good start - she is our first and we are out of our depth and really want her to thrive.

Story
At the Placer SPCA in Roseville, California, we have a 5-year old, white female Akita up for adoption. Her name is Pearl and she is very sweet and loves to play. She was surrendered to us when her family had to move into an apartment and she did not meet the weight requirement. We think she would do best in an Akita-experienced home where she can be the only dog as she has not been friendly with the dogs she has met, though she was in a home with another Akita when she was younger as well as a small dog. She also does not like her feet touched and has some resource guarding with treats. She has great manners and is easy to walk.  For more information about Pearl or to meet her, please contact: Placer SPCA 200 Tahoe Avenue Roseville, CA. 95678 916-872-6169 (This listing is to help assist direct placements of rescues that are currently with other rescue groups, shelters or their current owners. Story
Hi! My name is Simon. The shelter thinks I am around 3 years old. I am a medium to high energy Akita mix with gorgeous marking and a great voice! I LOVE playing with balls in the play yard. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need to toss the ball to me, I will just grab it, toss it in the air and entertain myself! You can see me in action here: https://youtube.com/shorts/pm2IkJ4sYIU The volunteers are very confident that I am housebroken. I am kind of a big puppy, but with some manners. I know how to “sit” and walk well on leash. I am required to be the only dog based on my initial assessment. I am also recommended to be in a home with high school-aged kids or older. I would be an ideal dog for a family with older kids and someone with space for me to romp around! And don’t forget that I am house trained and have lovely manners. I am also super handsome and love giving doggie hugs and getting affection! For more information or to visit me, please contact: Carson Animal Care Center — Los Angeles 216 W Victoria Street Gardena, CA 90248 310-523-9566 www.animalcare.lacounty.gov Shelter Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday - 2pm to 5pm Wednesday - 2pm to 7pm (This listing is to help assist direct placements of rescues that are currently with other rescue groups, shelters or their current owners. Story
Is this adorable sweet and Sassy diaper baby the dog for you? She can be sassy with other dogs but she really just wants to be a sweet cuddly girl with her favorite humans. Why do we call her a diaper baby, you ask? Well, she has some minor issues with her hind quarters, possibly due to a subarachnoid diverticulum cyst on her spinal cord (a congenital defect that is likely to be stable over the remainder of her life). It seems that the nerve impulses from her hind quarters are blocked or delayed getting back to her brain so she drags her back legs a bit and she unfortunately has little bowel and bladder control, hence the “diaper baby” endearment. The good news is that she does not let it stop or slow her down and she is very tolerant of wearing her diapers. She has full command of her hind legs but does not always seem to know exactly where they are at any given moment. When she is running at full tilt boogie (zoomies level 10) she tends to do power slides around corners and will occasionally trip and momentarily loose traction, but she quickly gets back up to full Husky speed. She would be great as an only dog for someone who is willing to take on a sweet diaper baby. She does exhibit some occasional resource guarding behaviors so an experienced owner would be recommended for a multi dog home. She also tends to be the play police when her foster dog siblings are trying to play. Both behaviors are relatively minor and manageable by an experienced owner. If you will consider giving this sweet (and a bit sassy) diaper baby a place in your home, she will steal your heart.      April 21, 2024, 4:54 pm

Story
Sweet Brulee is a beautiful girl with the most amazing coloring. She has a strong personality, very human centric and bonds very quickly with her humans. She walks decent on leash once some of the typical husky energy has been burnt off but could use more leash training and would do best with a very active family. She has a strong prey drive so care should be taken around small animals.  Brulee is treat motived, takes treats very nicely, knows 'sit', ‘shake’, 'down', 'stay' and crate trained. She loves playing with toys and people, but not very interested in other dogs. Brulee would most likely do best as an only dog as she loves all the attention. Anyone looking for a very active but extremely sweet girl as a companion dog, Brulee is your girl!Click here to watch a video of Brulee.      April 21, 2024, 4:54 pm
