Story
Blitz is a striking-looking dog who is just waiting to blossom into a perfect companion in his new home. He came in with Teddy, a chihuahua mix, who likes to boss him around. Blitz would definitely do well with another secure dog in the household to show him the ropes, or on his own so he can soak up all the attention. Either way would be fine with him. Blitz is a little shy at first, but once he learns that you are there to spend time with him and take him for a walk, he’s all about it. He appears to be housetrained and polite on leash. Blitz does not particularly enjoy going back to a kennel, so come meet him today and spring him from that life – he’s ready to enjoy a forever home with you!

Story
Meet TOBI We don't know much about Tobi's past, but his future is very bright. He is a big boy with a heart the size to match. He is a gentle giant with a gregarious, carefree attitude and is eager to learn and experience the world. He is game for adventure and deserves to have that special someone to accompany him in life. Tobi is playful and has a welcoming aura about him. He also has an unabashed, confident side to him. He's just not sure how he ended up here, and we're making sure he never has to wonder that ever again. He is best as an only dog and someone with previous Akita experience is best. Tobi is approximately 5 yrs old, and due to his size should be on a good quality joint supplement. He's only been with us a short time, so will need to gain a few pounds to look his best, but he's already on his way to showing us his beautiful soul. Story
Meet HIROMI HIROMI was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving. After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit. Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising. Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA! Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons. Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog. She is approx 4 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is also crate and house trained. She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?! Story
Meet Emi Emi’s sleek, brindle coat is a thing of beauty and so magnificent to behold. Engaging, charismatic, gregarious, and spirited are the first things you sense about her from the moment she enters a room. Emi exudes a brand of joy that makes her impossible to resist! Not until you witness her graceful elegance and see a bit of frost around her muzzle, do you realize she is a senior beauty with an abundance of life experiences to share. She’s 8 yrs old and has found herself homeless, but she’s seen enough in life to know there’s still a wonderous journey ahead. She is a lover of people and she’d much rather be enjoying a fun adventure with you by her side on interesting walks or trips to the beach, than be left at home alone. She needs to be an only dog and is not suitable with cats. She is approximately 60 lbs. and seems unaware she has some arthritis and hip dysplasia. But as you can see, she enjoys playing with her toys and doing tricks for treats. Her healthy curiosity keeps her engaged in life’s adventures, though she also loves her beauty naps. Please don’t let her age deter you from considering giving her a home. Her heart is overflowing with love. If you are interested in Emi, please complete our adoption application in the link below. Story
Meet Ombre, an 11-month-old Akita who radiates an easygoing and sweet demeanor that captivates everyone she meets! Despite her young age, Ombre displays a maturity beyond her years, approaching life with a calm and gentle disposition. Ombre came to our shelter as a stray about 6 weeks ago. She was found with her sidekick companion, Margarita, a sweet, timid, 11-pound, 3-year old Chihuahua.  Ombre is an exuberant, playful and very loving dog. She is very gentle with Margarita, so they are housed together and often hang out in the yards together. While Ombre thoroughly enjoys playing and interacting with others; she would thrive equally well in a home with or without another dog, thanks to her independent nature and friendly demeanor. Ombre's love for playtime is infectious, and her charming personality makes her a wonderful addition to any loving household ready to provide her with the care and companionship she deserves. Ombre has a beautiful coat, weighs about 40 pounds, seems quite potty trained and also very quiet in her kennel that she shares with little Margarita. Ombre is good with every dog and every person she has ever met; loves to play with soft toys and most of all, has discovered the joy of a kiddie pool in the heat! At the shelter, we often let them play together, but also separate them out. I have been taking Margarita home to play with my littles so she can build her confidence and come into her own. She is a delightful little girl (whose cherry eye will be fixed when she is spayed soon). Both Ombre and Margarita are vaccinated and will be chipped and spayed  We would love to get sweet Ombre and Margarita out of the shelter so they can continue to grow and thrive in a home. Ombre and Margarita are being cared for at Yolo County Animal Services in Woodland, CA (near Davis and Sacramento Airport). Story
Ike and Tina are 7-month old Akitas that were surrendered to the shelter because their previous family lost their home. They are both house trained, know basic commands and like attention. They appear to get along with other dogs, but Ike can get protective when larger dogs are around, so they would continue to need more positive training and socialization experiences with other dogs and people under well-managed and safe conditions. They would most likely do best with an experienced owner that can guide and train them as they continue to mature. Continued obedience work with an instructor familiar with Akitas and/or northern breed dogs is recommended. For more information about them and to meet them, please contact: Front Street Animal Shelter 2127 Front Street Sacramento, CA 95818 916-808-7387 Shelter Hours: Monday to Sunday, 12pm to 5pm Ike and Tina are located in Kennel #505 (This listing is to help assist direct placements of rescues that are currently with other rescue groups, shelters or their current owners. This big, lovable guy may not be slicing through the wind like his namesake, but Samurai has mastered the ancient art of relaxation. Yes, he’s carrying a few extra pounds—okay, maybe more than a few—but Samurai takes it all in stride. He’s working on slimming down at his own pace (preferably one slow walk at a time), and would love a forever home that can help him stay on track with his health goals as he reaches his golden years! Despite his laid-back lifestyle, he’ll happily trot over for head scratches, belly rubs, or just a good chat. That adorable face, complete with his wonderfully goofy eyebrows, never fails to bring a smile to everyone he meets. Samurai is the total package: charming, cuddly, and full of quiet charisma. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance buddy with maximum snuggle potential, Samurai is ready to settle into your heart—and maybe your couch—today!
