Friends to the Forlorn Adopt-a-BullBreed: Great Dane/American Bulldog Gender: Male Estimated Date of Birth: April 15, 2012 Size: 85lbs Location: Dallas, GA RESCUING STONE Stone was originally adopted from Douglas County Animal Control when he was a small pup. That family gave him to another family, who then gave him to a third family, and he ended up a Fulton County Animal Control. He was next in line to get put to sleep at the shelter and we were able to pull him on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. ABOUT STONE Stone is a giant. Our best guess is that he’s a Great Dane/American Bulldog mix. He is a big, playful goof and he loves toys … although he has not quite learned to bring them back to you. Stone does not understand his size or strength. It is very clear that a lack of basic obedience and being dumped several times in his formative years has affected him immensely. Stone is not very trusting of new people. He takes time to warm up and can be rather intimidating due to his size and behavior. He is reactive when in public to people and other dogs. Once he trusts you, you are part of his inner circle and he will show you his true personality. His true personality shines … he is fun loving, sweet, and silly. Because his previous owners simply dumped him off onto the next family, he lacked all leadership and guidance in his formative years so he does not know what behavior is acceptable and what is not. Stone does jump up on people and could benefit from some serious obedience training. He is reactive on leash in public and will require a strong owner. Stone also has trust issues and insecurities with strangers due to his previous life experiences. He will require a 6 foot privacy fence and a strong, experienced owner that is willing to take the time to get to know him and work with him on obedience. Due to his size and behavioral concerns, we do not recommend Stone for a home with children. Now, it’s time for me to meet a lucky family and spend my ‘happily ever after’ with them, so plan to come and meet me soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I get along very well with the two dogs in my foster home, so if you have a nice doggie at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I love the two girls in my foster home, in fact, the 12-year-old and I are great buddies and do lots of things together. There is also a 16-year-old that spends a good bit of time with me and I love her too. So, if you have kids let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am an affectionate girl with a sweet, calm and loving nature. I’m always ready to be close and soak up every bit of affection you’re willing to give. I can be a little timid of loud noises or sudden movements, but I recover quickly with a gentle voice or a reassuring touch. I tend to be more cautious around men than women, watching first before deciding it’s safe, but once I do, my sweetness shines through. At heart, I’m a tender, loving soul who just wants to feel safe, seen, and adored and I would really like a stay or work from home family member that I could spend my days with. / My energy level is 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I shown that I know the ‘sit’ and ‘come’ commands in my foster home and I also have good leash manners. For a cheese treat, I will gladly extend my paw for a shake. I bet you can teach me even more great commands. / My crate manners have been good in my foster home, and I’ve shown that I don’t really require one. I don’t like being left alone in one, as I would rather be near my people. / I’ve only had two accidents in my foster home – one of the first day and the other when it was blustery cold outside. With a good and consistent schedule, my potty habits should be good in my new home too. • LIKES/DISLIKES: Cuddling is my love language, and I’ll happily curl up at your side just to feel connected. Getting attention is extremely important to me and I hope it is for my new family too. And grass? Rolling in it is pure joy because honestly, life is better when you take time to roll around and enjoy it. Dog beds are my personal treasure - I like the soft ones best and believe every home should have at least one for me. / As mentioned, loud noises startle me , and my foster vouches for the fact that I am NOT a fan of pill pockets – ick. I’m not the best on stairs, but I’m sure I can improve if needed. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I am taking medication to help with anxiety, though I have backed off from it in my foster home – only doing a morning dose when my foster has to work all day. Just ask about this. I have so much happy enthusiasm to share, and I did great during my bath, too - I even drank from the sprayer and handed out kisses. I’m a chatty, vocal player who loves to “talk” while I play with both people and other dogs. It’s just my sweet way of letting you know I’m having fun! I’ve shown a little food guarding in the past, but it’s been very mild and is well managed after working with my trainer, so please just ask about it. I’ll need some time to adjust to my new home and will likely make a little noise until I know that I’m home and have settled in, so best no apartment. / Energy Level: 7-9. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners using my EZ walk harness as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. / The crate is not my favorite place, so I do some whining in there. / My potty habits are slowly improving on a good schedule. Please keep me on a consistent schedule, so that I can fully master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love playing with toys, especially tennis balls, and I never say no to a peanut butter treat. I’ve destuffed a few toys and shredded a blanket, so please just watch me with these items. Chin scratches are the best, and they always make my tail wag! At the end of the day, being with my people is really what I’m after. / I can’t think of any dislikes, but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I recently started 2 inexpensive stress/anxiety medications to help with some mild separation anxiety that I’m experiencing. Hopefully I will no longer need it once I’ve settled into my new home. I also take an inexpensive tummy medication to help with some tummy upset I experience at the shelter. I’m a wonderful pup looking for a wonderful family to love and be loved by! I’m in a great foster home now while I wait to meet my new loving family! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met and liked dogs at Mostly Mutts, and I really like the three dogs in my foster home. I not much of a player, but we all co-exist nicely together. If you have a nice, calm dog at home who is not looking for a playmate, let’s meet! / I was initially curious about the cats in my foster home, but after checking them out, I pretty much ignore them. Just wanted to know what they were – lol. All cats are different, so I’m not sure how I would be with another kitty. / I love the two 8-year-olds and the teen in my foster home! They are gentle and respectful, and I love all the snuggles. If you have kids like this, let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: My lovely, soulful eyes match my sweet and gentle nature. I’ve been super friendly with everyone I’ve met and don’t seem to meet a stranger. I am ridiculously cute on top of all that! My house manners have been wonderful, and my foster describes me as ‘just a sweet snuggle bug and a very wonderful dog’. There has been no destructive chewing in my foster home and – though I will get on the furniture if left to my own devices, I respond well when told to get down. Typical of my breed, I’m a snorer and a drooler, so if I’m allowed on the furniture in my new home, a cover may be in order. I basically charm everyone I meet with my fabulous loving demeanor. You’re next! / My energy level is 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I walk well on my leash and I’m sure you can teach me some cool commands. / In my foster home, I don’t like the crate if I’m alone and I cry and scratch to get out, but my house manners have been so good that I don’t really need one. If my people are in the same room as me, I am fine in the crate though with a little whining. / My potty habits have been really good in my foster home, and I go sit by the door when I need to go out. I DO seem to prefer going potty in the yard rather than on my walks, so a fenced yard would be nice, but not required. My potty manners are also good at Mostly Mutts. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I’m a big fan of belly rubs and back scratches. Hanging out with my people makes me a happy girl – because that is when I can collect all the petting and cuddles – my favorite thing! I enjoy my walks, and – with my good leash manners – you will, too! / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I had a good dental cleaning with a couple of teeth pulled so my mouth is fresh again! I take an over-the-counter Cosequin joint supplement which is good for all older dogs. I came in with very itchy skin, so I started an allergy medication called Zenrelia, so just ask how that’s coming along. I am looking for wonderful home where I will be a cherished family member!
