Story
A REAL PEOPLE DOG: Approx. 6 years old / Approx. 26 lbs. Hi, my name’s Irwin and I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control. Since joining the MM family, I’ve been soaking up all the love from the volunteers who come to care for me. I also got to spend 2 nights in a temporary foster home and had fun there. I hear that I’m now ready to find my new family, and I am so excited for that day. Hopefully it will be soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I did well with the dog in my temp. foster home. I was gentle and friendly with her though we didn’t play together. We did share my temp. foster dad’s lap, so if you have a friendly dog at home already, let’s meet. / Cats unknown, though I did not react to the one I saw on my walk, so if you have a dog-friendly cat, let’s meet and see if we can be friends. / There was a 13- and 18-year-old in my temp. foster home and I was friendly and gentle with them and enjoyed when they pet me. So, if you have kids, let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I was a bit anxious and fearful when I went into my temp. foster home, but I warmed up quickly and just loved my time there. I’m looking for a family that has a stay or work from home family member as my favorite thing in life is to sit by my people or even on their lap. I had little spurts of play but was mostly chill in the home. They also said that I didn’t bark much (except when in that dreaded crate). They also reported that I was an all-around sweetie! At the shelter, the volunteers describe me as friendly, calm, gentle, sweet, and a charmer as well as the sweetest boy who will melt your heart. I really seem to love everyone I’ve met so far and I’m sure I’ll love my new family too! / In my temp. foster home my energy level was approx. 3-5. At the shelter it’s more like 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: So far, I know the ‘sit’ command and everyone says that I walk nicely on my leash. I also came when my temp. fosters called me. / The crate and I are not friends! In my temp. foster home, I hated it and would cry, howl and bang against it, eventually settling down but it took a while, so it’s probably best I don’t live in an apartment/condo type home due to this. If you want to crate train me, I’ll need you to do it slowly and use positive reinforcement training (making it a place I can like). MM will be glad to give you tips on that. Perhaps I won’t need a crate in my new home. I’m also not a fan of being in my crate at the shelter. / I had accidents on the shelter schedule but did wonderful in my temp. foster home (for me everything is better in a nice home!). I’d go and stand close to the door to let them know I needed to go potty, and I didn’t have any accidents the 2 days I was there. • LIKES/DISLIKES: Most of all, I love being by my humans. I also like toys and playing fetch as well as chasing critters in the yard. Walks are also on my likes list. / Besides my hate for the crate, I also don’t really like being left alone much and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m getting medicated baths for a little while to help with some discomfort on my front feet. These can easily be done in my new home. I’m also taking Apoquel, an allergy medication to help – this may be a temporary medication – just ask about this. I’m looking for a wonderful family with a stay or work from home family member who will be patient with me at first – giving me a little time to settle in and feel comfortable. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga. October 9, 2024, 7:15 am
