Story
I sure wish I had some great story to tell you about my past life. You know&#44 a story where Im the hero&#44 and I rescued my family from a burning building; or&#44 I pulled the sled team alongside Balto&#44 and we raced across the Alaskan tundra getting life saving medicine to sick children. Alas&#44 I cant tell you those stories because I think I just made them up.

No&#44 I was actually adopted from Great Plains four years ago&#44 and once I went home&#44 well&#44 I lost touch with my friends here. Fast forward to today&#44 and I came into the shelter again because my family moved away and deserted me at our house. I know for a fact it wasnt me or anything I said or did. I think they just didnt want the responsibility of a dog any longer so they abandoned me. Im over it&#44 and I hold no grudges against humans because of them. I know that I need to open my heart to a new family&#44 trust them&#44 and that maybe this time - THIS TIME - they will love me and care for me until the end of my days. I want to be a member of a family and do my part to care and support and love all of those in it.

I lucked out and have had the privilege of living in a foster home with a wonderful couple. They are so good to me&#44 and in return&#44 I have been nothing but a very good dog. I stick to my Foster Mom (FM) like a little bit of velcro. We have kissing sessions in the morning&#44 belly rubs mid-morning&#44 and a wonderful walk around the neighborhood whenever we want. My Foster Dad missed having a dog in the house&#44 so they decided that fostering would be the way to go. He and FM say that&#44 and I quote&#44 Kermit is the best foster dog we have ever had. I am perfect in the home&#44 I am as sweet and loving as they come&#44 and I even get to sleep in bed with them sometimes. They have a four-foot fence&#44 and I dont try to jump it or anything. What kind of dumbo would you have to be to jump a fence and leave this home and family? I love them with all my heart.

Im a calmer guy now than when I was at the shelter previously&#44 more relaxed and mellow than before. Ive maybe gotten over some of my fears&#44 and Ive learned that love is the most important thing in life. Love and smelling the roses on a daily basis. Oh and eating bonbons with someone you love on the couch watching a rom-com. I prefer affection and attention from my human(s) above all else. I want a home where I can hang my hat&#44 climb into my bed&#44 and drift off to sleep knowing that I have a safe and loving haven in which to live. Yes&#44 Ive reached my senior years. And they are years to be enjoyed and savored - like a good book or fine wine. Honestly&#44 I liken myself to a vintage bottle of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. We both have a smooth&#44 velvety texture&#44 we age gracefully over time&#44 even improving as the years go by. Could you ask for anything more in a dog?

I hope that you are my person. I hope that you are reading about me and want to meet me. I so want my chance at a happily ever after.

Love from Kermit (aka Kirby)

Featuring photos by Krystle-Lee Photography

Story
Einstein – 2-Year-Old Playful, Smart, Affectionate Companion Hello, my name is Einstein, and I’d love to tell you a little about myself! At 2 years old, I’m a lot like a curious 4-year-old toddler—sometimes cautious with new experiences, but I warm up quickly and adjust fast. I love to play. Fetch and tug-of-war are my absolute favorites, and when I get excited, I bounce around like a little antelope. I’m also very affectionate and enjoy spending time with people. I give great kisses and will never turn down a belly rub. Since joining my foster family, I’ve been friendly and gentle with everyone I’ve met. I already know several basic commands like sit, shake, and wait for food. I’m learning how to walk nicely on a leash, and I’m working on becoming fully housebroken. Right now, I’m learning to use a bell to tell my humans when I need to go outside. I’m kennel-trained and sleep happily in my crate at night and when my foster family is away. Even though I’m a bigger boy, I really appreciate being accepted as a lap dog—it’s my favorite place to be. I enjoy chew toys, especially the tough, indestructible ones. If you’re looking for a playful, loving, smart dog who wants to learn, bond deeply, and be your loyal companion, I’d be thrilled to meet you! ✨ All Heart of America Humane Society dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. If you have other dogs in your home, we require that they meet our dog prior to adoption. 💲 Adoption fee: $225 📍 Once you apply, the foster will contact you to schedule a meet and greet. 👉 Apply here: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAUS/Dog

Story
Meet Bougie – A Gentle Soul Looking for Her Safe Haven Age: 3 years | Spayed | Up to date on all vet care | Microchipped Adoption Fee: $200 Bougie is a sweet, timid pup who’s slowly learning to trust the world again. At just 3 years old, she has already overcome so much after being rescued from a severe hoarding situation where she never received the care or socialization she needed. Because of her past, Bougie is very shy and cautious—but in the right environment, her gentle spirit begins to emerge. Bougie is fully vetted, spayed, and microchipped—ready for her second chance. She is looking for a calm, adult-only home with a securely fenced-in yard and no children. Due to her fearful nature, a home with experience handling shy or undersocialized dogs is a must. Another calm, confident dog in the home could help guide her and make her feel more secure. Bougie won’t be the kind of dog who runs to greet you on day one—but with time, patience, and love, she will blossom into a loyal and deeply grateful companion. If you believe in second chances and have the experience and heart to help a fearful dog thrive, Bougie might just be waiting for you.

Story
Just in time for the holiday baking season, we`d like to offer up Cinnamon. And while the spice is typically warm and bold, our Cinnamon is the shy and reserved variety. This scared boy lost a loving home due to housing issues and is scared and confused at the shelter. He`s trying hard to be brave, and the volunteers and staff do all they can to help him feel secure, but what he really needs is a home with a family again. There is such joy in helping a dog learn that there are lots of caring people in the world. Cinnamon is reported to have been housetrained in his prior home and he has lived with older children; he`d love to meet everyone in his new family before going home! Our shelter staff will help introduce him to any potential fur siblings, to be sure everyone gets along, just like they do for all the other dogs here.Cinnamon is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. His ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.

Story
Very good boy Tennessee, our friend with City of Raytown Animal Services, was one of the first dogs at the new Raytown Dog Park yesterday, and he was amazing! He did a great job with fence introductions, stayed close by off leash, and had a blast! He has been overlooked for months and has had zero interest. This guy is a fawn/white pit mix and around three years old. He does well with other dogs, has not been cat tested, and is calm and responsive to his people. The amazing staff at Laurel Pet Resort have been working with him on sit and he offers snuggles in return! If you'd like to know more about this wonderful, sweet boy, call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387. He's in the Kansas City metro, but transport is available to the right home.

These pups are in Mission, Kansas too!

Story
Nobody knows how to wear a hat quite like I do&#44 dont you think? Hi there&#44 Im Ava! A sweet and silly girl that cant wait for her forever family. Thankfully&#44 all the kind people at the shelter have given me so much to be happy about. Ive learned what it means to be house trained&#44 how to share my toys&#44 and Ive experienced what it means to be loved&#44 really and truly loved by a human.

I want so much to trust every human I meet right away. But I need a little time to get to know someone and really develop a sense of connection and love for that human. The shelter experience lends itself to a lot of unfamiliar people needing to interact with me often&#44 and I get nervous and scared around all that attention. I prefer slower introductions&#44 getting to know the person&#44 and finding that I can trust that no one wants to hurt me. Once there is patience and understanding between us&#44 Im a little doll. Ive got quite the personality&#44 and I want so much to be a part of a family and feel included in activities.

I am also kennel trained&#44 and I like to sleep in my quiet little spot. Ive been soaking up the love in a foster home recently. When Im not snuggled up with Foster Dad&#44 I enjoy playing with my toys and snoozing the day way. I absolutely adore squeaky toys&#44 and Im a big fan of car rides&#44 too. Starbucks Pup Cup anyone?

Before I fully commit to a family&#44 Id really love to meet everyone to ensure we all have that special connection. Since Im still learning that new people are indeed trustworthy&#44 I would appreciate older kids who know how to be gentle with me. Love is a two-way street&#44 you know. I cant wait to shower my new family with endless love&#44 loyalty&#44 and lots of joy. Together&#44 well make beautiful memories&#44 and I promise to be the best companion anyone could ask for.

Love from Ava
