We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting Bear, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.petfinder.com.  Bear is the sweetest lab/pit mix. He’s a shy, lazy big puppy that loves his walks, playing with other dogs, snuggling and sun bathing outside. Bear was abused by his last owner so he’s scared of everyone he firsts meets. Once he warms up to someone he loves to cuddle up next to them while he takes one of his many naps throughout the day. Since Bear suffered so much trauma with his last owner he’s still learning how to be a dog. He mimics his 2 sisters every move. They also are his best friends and safety blankets. Bear would need to be in a home with another dog. He would also do best in a home without a lot of commotion. Due to his previous trauma he’s very skittish of loud noises and a lot of movement.  Bears owners are rehoming him because they are having a baby and have decided that they can't keep him now that they are going to be busy with the baby and having people over often, which is stressful for Bear as it takes him a while to warm up to new people.  Bear is an extremely sweet dog that just needs a little emotional support and patience. Story

This is Sosie, we found her curled up in a ball on the porch of a kids daycare. I brought her back to work (PAWS) with me to scan for a microchip. She had one, and I was able to get in touch with her owner. The owners said they'd come pick her up the following day because of not being able to get off of work before late at night, so I agreed to keep her overnight. After that day my calls were ignored. The owner has never reached back out to me and clearly dumped her on us. However it is their loss because she's a wonderful dog who deserves a loving home with an owner that truly cares for her and her well being. She loves people and loves to cuddle. She has not had one accident inside. She gets a little stressed in the car so I do make sure she's secured while driving or she'll try to get in the driver's lap. She has done well with all the dogs she's met. She also is good with kids. She's really an excellent dog. She needs some leash work, she is a puller and very strong, but she knows basic commands and is eager to learn and just wants to be with people as much as possible. April 24, 2024, 8:30 am

Stromboli is currently in a foster home and this is what his foster has to say about him: "Stromboli is the epitome of a goofy love bug. He loves his family, treats, and time outside in the sun. After a romp in the yard or walk around the block, this boy just wants to become a total couch potato. He gets along well with other dogs. We are currently working on leash walking and house manners including potty and crate training. He learns quickly and is eager to do whatever he can for a treat! Sweet Stromboli would be a great companion for someone who likes to get outside during the day and snuggle up in the evenings."This big boy may be a bit shy at first, but will open up after getting to know you. He gets along well with his canine foster sibling and may benefit from another dog in his adoptive home. Due to his size and exuberance he would do better in a home with no cats or small children. This gentle giant is Sumo, a 7 year old Bulldog, weighing in at a mere 125 pounds. This guy was found as a stray and dropped off to us, so we don't know much about him, but we do think he was in a home before. Sumo keeps his kennel clean each day. He is sweet and friendly with people but when attending doggy playgroup, he is unsocialized, he was shy and nervous with the dogs, wanted to keep safe, and had no aggression. When out on a doggy day out, Sumo was ever so gentle and calm. He was a breeze to walk and doesn't pull, which is good since he is pretty strong. He was cautious and timid though, in certain situations. Definitely not something to be expected from this big guy, so he will need someone who can give him assurance and help to build his confidence. This guy would love to find that special home, where he is treated as one of the family. Who has a nice soft bed for this amazing, gentle giant? Sumo comes neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. His ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.
