I would love to rename this dog, but am going to keep calling him “Kujo” because that’s what staff named him. I was expecting some big hulking dog based on the name, but instead what I saw when I visited his kennel is a calm, well-mannered and probably definitely housetrained good boy. Like Kujo was someone’s dog, who probably lived in a house and probably is familiar with leash walks and going potty outside, and all of the good boy things! Kujo is calm in his kennel and easy to leash up, because he knows what comes next - a walk! He uses the bathroom shortly after going outside and as the sign on his kennel says, “he is housetrained”. He walks well on the leash and pays attention to his handler during the leash walk. Kujo seems like he would fit into almost any family and isn’t jumpy, mouthy and wasn’t excessively fearful. I think he could live in a home with dog savvy children assuming appropriate parental supervision. Go meet Kujo! Kujo that I am now calling Henry… because that’s what seems to suit him better.

Jax A546740I have been waiting to take Jax out since he came in, but the shelter was monitoring him for ringworm so volunteers couldn’t handle him. Good news! No ringworm! Jax was happy to get outside. He was easy to leash up and snorted and waddled his way through the kennels, not minding the dogs barking at him from their kennels. Jax sounds like a piglet, which makes sense given his shorter snout and compact body. Jax takes treats gently and enjoyed pets. Even though he doesn’t have ringworm, he does have something going on with his skin, so he enjoyed the scratches I gave him and could use a vet visit to determine treatment (likely medicated baths and a good quality food). Jax is a young guy who has been cooped up with no walks or outdoor time, so when I took him out, he was occasionally jumpy for attention. I am sure with more regular walks and some structure, that will go away. Also, I can’t see him having much stamina in this heat with his build, which should help with training him to be calm! Wink wink! Jax is definitely a head turner and exudes happiness and friendliness. As we walked back to his kennel, he calmly passed and didn’t seem to mind the dogs barking and jumping in their kennels as we passed. He just seemed happy to get out! Go rescue Jax today!

Winston is looking for their forever home! WHAT MY FOSTER SAYS: Winston is 98 pounds of BIG LOVE! He is fun fun fun and high energy. He gets along with everyone, and wants to be your friend right away. He loves to play tug and fetch, and enjoys running and jumping in the backyard. We think Winston is an American Bulldog mix, and he exhibits the independent and sometimes stubborn, but affectionate, nature of the breed. He gets along well with other dogs (although is a little clueless when they ask him for personal space). We are unsure about his ability to dwell with cats (we are sure he wants to chase them). Winston has started work with a trainer to help him learn boundaries and his trainer continuously says how quick he is to catch on. His ideal family will be willing to be assertive with him and continue this training to help Winston learn restraint. Part of this is tiring him out, so Winston would love an athletic, and outdoorsy parent who is equipped with a backyard or easy access to hiking trails and open spaces.
