Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Brief description: Elliot is a sweet little low-rider fellow who wants to be by your side at all times. Weighing in at about 35 lbs, he is a perfect lap dog. He’s your ride or die, always willing to do whatever you’re in the mood for, whether its having a lazy on the couch or taking a hike in the woods. He enjoys being around people and just wants to be the center of attention. He’s house and crate trained and responds well to commands. He is quite the quirky character and will make you laugh with the way he hops around when he’s happy or lays with his legs straight up in the air when he’s sleeping. Likes: Loves attention from his humans. He likes to sit by your feet all day, whether you’re working at your desk or watching TV, he’ll be right there with you. Did you say ‘get the ball?’ Elliot’s favorite game is playing fetch. This makes him very happy, and you can tell because he starts hopping like a bunny when he’s playing fetch to show his enthusiasm. He’s very food motivated and will do anything you ask him when a treat is involved. Dislikes: The only thing that seems to annoy him is when his foster brother tries to hump him, but to be expected, lol! Personality: Elliot is very cuddly and touchy and wants to be involved in everything you do. He doesn’t know the concept of personal space. He listens well and is down for anything; he can be spunky or chill and will adapt to your mood. He has a very happy-go-lucky attitude and just wants to please you. If you’re looking for a snuggle companion, he’s your guy. Temperament: Very friendly to everyone he meets and can be quite the little ham. When he wants attention, he’ll jump right into your lap and stare up at you until you pet his head. He is always good for a laugh with his quirky little ways. If traveling is your thing, he’s good in the car, enjoys taking walks, and adapts well to new environments. But what he enjoys most is being a lap dog. Energy level: Spurts of energy when he wants you to play, then other times he is very chill and lazy. Favorite activities: Playing fetch with the ball, walks, car rides, playing with toys, and chilling on the sofa. Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Elliot is good with other dogs; he just needs a slow introduction so he can be sure the the other dog is a really his friend. Once he realizes the other dog is going to be cool with him, he’s good to go and wants nothing more than to play and have fun. He has a few scars around his face, so he may have been attacked by other dogs who weren’t so nice to him in his past life. He seems to get along better with calmer dogs who aren’t intrusive of his personal space. He’s good with people in general; men, women, & children. Kids under 10 are probably not good idea only because he can get wound up and hyper-focused on his toys, especially when playing fetch. Not good with: He’s never been around cats so not sure. Housetrained: YES, Elliot is fully house trained. As soon as you let him outside, he’ll pee and poop right away, he doesn’t waste any time doing his business so he can get right back to you. Crate trained: Yes. If you say “crate” he’ll walk right in and waits for his treats. Other times, he goes in by himself just to chill. Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence)?: Elliot would do fine either with or without a fenced yard. He has a good recall, but still needs to be leashed for safety. Walks well on a leash?: Does well on a leash and enjoys taking walks. Doesn’t pull and listens well. Challenges: Not many! He’s very easy going and adapts quickly to his environment. However, he has a tendency to be very invasive of your space and will try to get in your lap at all costs, whether it means stepping on your laptop or knocking your drink out of your hand. But that’s being pretty nit picky, as he’s a pretty darn near perfect. Any Medical issues?: No What would be the best kind of home?: Elliot would do well in a home that gives him plenty of lap-time, snuggles, and attention. He would do well as an only dog or in a home that has a calmer, more chill dog. If you work outside of the home, that’s no problem. He’s house-trained and well-behaved; he doesn’t chew or get into things he not supposed to. He’d probably do best with kids over 10 only because he can be intense when he plays and gets hyper-focused on his toys. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Story
Meet Maxwell, a charming in need of rescue. His journey with us began when he was surrendered by his previous owner, through no fault of his own. Maxwell boasts a delightful history of coexisting harmoniously with both children and dogs of all sizes. However, we recommend a child-free environment due to his tendency to be a tad jumpy and nervous, especially when encountering new people. Maxwell's previous family described him as a big, goofy, and immensely playful companion. Additionally, he has proven himself to be well-trained in both housebreaking and crate use. He's capable of peacefully free-roaming when left alone, with no adverse incidents. Despite his endearing qualities, Maxwell is currently experiencing a degree of unease in the shelter environment, away from the only family he's ever known. New faces and the presence of other dogs passing by his kennel have understandably heightened his anxiety. Our dedicated behavior team has devised a plan to place him in a quieter section of the shelter, although it is apparent that the current setting is less than ideal for this sensitive fellow. During his stay with us, Maxwell has gradually opened up, revealing the same lovable, goofy personality that endeared him to his previous owners. Yet, he remains cautious when meeting new people. In our care, he has engaged in playgroups and demonstrated positive interactions with other dogs, though he tends to prefer calmer canine companions, as those with high energy levels can sometimes overwhelm him. This endearing pup is longing for a safe and loving environment where he can thrive. __________________________________________________   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. Please contact Courtney Nobles (courtneyn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet older gent seeking happily ever after! CARL NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Carl        Best Guess for Breed: Bulldog and hound mix  Best Guess for Age:  7 years as of October 2024      Gender:Male Approximate Weight:46 lbs Gets Along With: Carl does well with other dogs. We haven't seen him with kids or cats but we can test him if you have them! Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment! Special Adoption Considerations: Carl is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Carl is Looking For: His forever home. This sweetie ended up in a shelter through no fault of his own - and he's closed that chapter. He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. Don't let that frosty face fool you - he's got plenty of zest!  A cushy dog bed, quality kibble, lots of snugs - yep, all on his wish list too. But as a wise, experienced dog, he knows what's most important in life: To be safe and loved and under his own roof. He's got so much to offer in exchange - adoring gazes and loyal companionship, definitely, but he also promises to make you smile every day. What do you say? Are you Carl's soft landing? Is he the one for your home and your heart? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Bluebell's adoption includes sponsored training classes with Atlas Dog House to support her new adopters in helping Bluebell be her best self.   Because of her breed and the brachycephalic issue, Bluebell must be walked using a harness and she cannot be out in the heat too long or she will have difficulty breathing.    All About Bluebell:     Bluebell's favorite creatures on earth are her humans, and she wants nothing more than to have her own. She is loving and so eager to please! This is what her fosters say about her:       'Bluebell is really great - very sweet, so smart and expressive, just an absolute sweetheart. She settled in very quickly and all she wants to do is be near or with her people. She is happy in her bed under my desk while I work from home. She is happy on the sofa next to my mum during the day, watching tv and 'helping' my mum with her quilting projects. She is happy hanging out with my husband when he works from home.        In the home, she is incredibly easy. She's great in her crate and keeps it clean. She loves to sleep, follow us around the house, and play with puzzle toys. She also has at least one round of Zoomies every evening that involves running from one end of the house to the other. She's doing well with potty training. She very rarely barks, but has lots of utterly adorable bully snores and snorts.        On leash, well, she would much prefer to remain tucked up in bed in the morning when it is cold out but once she is outside and walking, she loves her walks. She will happily walk for up to 45 minutes in areas like Jones Point, or just do a quick walk around the block (which is perfect when it's very cold for the humans too!). She's not fond of dogs coming up to her to say hi or looking at her on walks. Training in that area is going well - she is so eager to please - and we're working on having her focus on us and ignore the other dog.'       Bluebell is a huge lovebug who is devoted to her humans and wants to be the only 'baby' in the home. One is plenty when it's Bluebell - she has such an abundance of adoring gazes, snuggles, and loyal companionship for her humans. What do you say? Is this scrunched-face, snorty sweetie the one for your home and your heart?   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Male, 4.5 years, 70 lbs. Personality: easygoing, outgoing, playful, loyal, energetic, affectionate, adventurous, mischievous, and adaptable. Rocco is the epitome of a love bug, always eager to join in on the fun whether it's playing in the yard or cuddling on the couch watching TV. His adaptable nature means he can match your energy level, whether you're seeking a playful companion or a laid-back snuggle buddy. While he enjoys his adventures in the back yard, he's equally content relaxing indoors, taking cues from his human companions. With his adventurous spirit and affectionate personality, Rocco will bring joy and laughter to his forever home. Rocco has shown himself to be a well-behaved and loving companion at home. He is still learning what to do with a ball, but delights the young children in his foster home by playing in the house and the yard. He's gentle with the kids and is more than happy to clean up any food they accidentally drop on the floor! Rocco has made great progress on house training, does well in his crate, and already knows the words "no," "sit," and "crate". He definitely shows a willingness to learn and grow. Rocco loves toys, especially chew toys, and they keep his mind stimulated throughout the day. Rocco is choosy with his canine friends and would do best as the only pet in your home, with a fenced yard big enough for him to run and play in. If you're ready for a loyal and energetic companion, Rocco just might be the match for you. If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.
