Hi! My name is Yam, and I am one sweet potato! I will happily greet you with a wagging tail when you come to meet me! I know lots of tricks like sit, shake, and come. I tend to easily get excited and bouncy (I am working on it), so it will be best if I go to a home without small kids. I am also looking to be the only dog in my new home because other dogs can make me uncomfortable. I have a history of overreacting to other dogs sometimes on walks, but I have done really great with training to learn to manage my reactions! I love to cuddle up on the couch with you, and I`m really cute when I play with toys - I like to throw them around all by myself! If you give me a chance I will be the best boy I can be and become your new favorite companion! I hope we can meet today!!

Story
Meet Poncho- The Biggest Goofball! Poncho is a 6-year-old American Bulldog mix who’s making up for lost time — and having so much fun doing it. This 60-pound bundle of joy is white with adorable black spots, and he’s packed with personality, charm, and energy to spare. Since arriving at our shelter, Poncho has discovered the pure magic of kiddie pools, belly rubs, and running full-speed with the zoomies around the yard. He loves every person he meets and greets new friends with enthusiastic wiggles and hopeful eyes. That said, he's still working on some manners — especially his habit of jumping up when he's excited — so he’d do best in a home without small children for now. Poncho has lived his entire life outdoors, so things like crate training and potty training are totally new to him. But don’t worry — this boy is super food- and attention-motivated, and he’s eager to learn. He’s shown no negative reactions to other dogs in passing, and while we haven’t officially dog- or cat-tested him yet, we think his high energy might be a bit overwhelming for feline friends. Poncho’s story is one of survival and new beginnings. He came from C.H.A.I.N.E.D, a Detroit-based organization that provides care to dogs living chained or kenneled outdoors. Poncho lived in an outdoor kennel beside Bobby (another of our adoptable sweethearts), and the two were cared for by C.H.A.I.N.E.D. volunteers who made sure they had hay and heated igloos in the winter. When their former family moved to Mexico and couldn’t take the dogs along, we stepped in to give them a chance at real homes — the kind with couches, toys, love, and a soft place to land. Poncho is now looking for a patient, active home where he can continue learning what it means to be a family dog. He needs someone who can guide him through the basics with consistency and love, and in return, you’ll get endless laughs, devotion, and maybe a wet kiss or two. If you're looking for a dog who will adore you endlessly, make you laugh daily, and fill your home with joy — Poncho is your guy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to meet Poncho, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Poncho's adoption fee is $250, which covers part of the medical care he has received. **Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
Meet Teddy! This 4-year-old, 60lb hunk of love is the sweetest, gentlest mush you’ll ever meet! Teddy is crate trained, incredibly polite, and takes treats like a gentleman (just his lips!). He’s a mellow couch hippo who’s always down for snacks, cuddles, and the occasional zoomie. He knows his basics—Sit, Down, Shake, Wait, Kennel—and is learning new tricks every day. Though a bit shy with water and sudden movements (he’s had a rough past), he’s making amazing progress with patience and love. Teddy adores butt scratches, stuffies, and his foster sibling, and he’s happy to chill on his own or soak up affection with a surprised little wiggle. He’s a happy-go-lucky guy who could slide right into just about any home. Currently undergoing heartworm treatment (he’s already started meds), Teddy is ready to keep healing in a forever home full of kindness and snacks. Teddy is the good-est boy—and he can’t wait to meet you!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Cyrus had parvo at a shelter and was scheduled to be euthanized as there was no room to isolate him. A foster was able to take him home and provide the medical care he needed. Now he has recovered completely and is ready to find his forever home. He is a burst of energy and constantly wants to play. He gets along well with the foster's dogs. He would not do well with cats. He needs an owner that is just as energetic and has time to take him places to burn off all that extra energy. He is still cautious with strangers but warms up  quickly. He does dig under the fence so he needs a highly  enforced yard or someone who can take him out on a leash. He loves to play with toys and will run around the yard with them. He loves attention and knows how to sit, lay down, and crawl. The foster is currently working on stay. If given the chance he will be your best friend! Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.    Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost. I am nice to every person I meet, and I especially love when my people come home! I always greet my humans with a stuffie when they come home! And my fav party trick is showing everyone my very good “sit” & “paw”! With my doggy friends, I love to play! I go at their pace, never growling or biting back, even when some of my friends can get spicy! I love to play tug of war with my humans and absolutely love my walkies! Exploring the great outdoors then coming back home for a FAT nap is my jam! I used to live with cats when I was younger, and I’d be open to hanging with the felines again!  I am a great house guest - house trained and able to be left home alone without supervision! I won’t tear up any of your cozy furniture because I’ll be napping on it, waiting for you to come home! I let my foster mom wipe my paws too after every walk! I have such good manners - won’t drag mud through your home! Going on vacation? No problem! I love car rides and adventures - take me with! No dogs allowed? No problem! I am the bestest boy in doggy day care! I love playing with my doggy friends in boarding!  I take anti-anxiety medications twice a day because who doesn’t in this day and age?! But I take my meds easily, and my foster family & LDDR are showering me with love and helping me decrease my meds!  I am such a good boy and am eager to park a permanent place in your home and heart! Let’s be best friends forever! LDDR will even pay for training sessions with my adopters because they want me to find my FUREVER home!  Click here to watch a video of Nash.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. April 7, 2025, 7:49 pm
