Story
Meet Poncho- The Biggest Goofball! Poncho is a 6-year-old American Bulldog mix who’s making up for lost time — and having so much fun doing it. This 60-pound bundle of joy is white with adorable black spots, and he’s packed with personality, charm, and energy to spare. Since arriving at our shelter, Poncho has discovered the pure magic of kiddie pools, belly rubs, and running full-speed with the zoomies around the yard. He loves every person he meets and greets new friends with enthusiastic wiggles and hopeful eyes. That said, he's still working on some manners — especially his habit of jumping up when he's excited — so he’d do best in a home without small children for now. Poncho has lived his entire life outdoors, so things like crate training and potty training are totally new to him. But don’t worry — this boy is super food- and attention-motivated, and he’s eager to learn. He’s shown no negative reactions to other dogs in passing, and while we haven’t officially dog- or cat-tested him yet, we think his high energy might be a bit overwhelming for feline friends. Poncho’s story is one of survival and new beginnings. He came from C.H.A.I.N.E.D, a Detroit-based organization that provides care to dogs living chained or kenneled outdoors. Poncho lived in an outdoor kennel beside Bobby (another of our adoptable sweethearts), and the two were cared for by C.H.A.I.N.E.D. volunteers who made sure they had hay and heated igloos in the winter. When their former family moved to Mexico and couldn’t take the dogs along, we stepped in to give them a chance at real homes — the kind with couches, toys, love, and a soft place to land. Poncho is now looking for a patient, active home where he can continue learning what it means to be a family dog. He needs someone who can guide him through the basics with consistency and love, and in return, you’ll get endless laughs, devotion, and maybe a wet kiss or two. If you're looking for a dog who will adore you endlessly, make you laugh daily, and fill your home with joy — Poncho is your guy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to meet Poncho, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Poncho's adoption fee is $250, which covers part of the medical care he has received. **Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

"Hi, I’m Indie!   My foster family calls me 'Sis,' and at 4 months old, I’ve already decided that life is all about two things: sunbeams and snacks. I’m a professional kiss-giver and a couch-cuddling expert. I love hanging out with human kids and dog pals, and I’m even learning how to stay on the good side of my sassy cat roommate!   If you're looking for a sweet Bully mix with a heart of gold, I’m your girl."    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Meet Meatball! Meatball is a 63-lb land hippo, professional splooter, bird watcher, and full-time lover boy. If you are a human, congratulations! You are automatically one of his favorite people and will absolutely be smothered in kisses. He’s seriously one of the sweetest dogs ever and just wants to be involved in everything you’re doing. He’ll follow you from room to room, flop dramatically next to you for naps, and greet you like you’ve been gone for 10 years even if you just took the trash out. When he gets excited to see us, he grabs a toy and wiggles around trying to contain himself, which is honestly the cutest thing ever. Meatball has made SO much progress in foster care. He’s now down to 63 lbs from his original (overweight) 73 lbs, takes his Fluoxetine like a champ, and does really well and stays quiet in his crate while we’re gone. He thrives with routine and has become such a cozy, lazy boy at home. He is fully housetrained, and he will tell you when he needs to go out! He is all about open communication! He loves sleeping in, dreams HARD (lots of twitching and little woofs in his sleep), and is always ready for a couch nap. He also LOVES walks and car rides. Walks are basically his favorite part of the day, and he puts those quarterback shoulders to work on the walks! Prepare yourself ahead of time if you want to walk Meatball or if you want Meatball to walk you! He is VERY passionate about chasing birds, squirrels, and rabbits, so he definitely keeps things entertaining. Car rides make him absolutely lose his mind in the best way possible. He rolls around in the backseat like he just won the lottery. He already knows “sit,” “touch,” and “paw,” and he’s super food motivated and eager to keep learning. He’s very affectionate, very people-oriented, and genuinely just wants love and attention all the time. A few honest Meatball facts: Soft toys do not stand a chance! There is only one soft toy that has stood up to him, but the rest of his toys are hard toys! He is a sucker for his Kong with frozen peanut butter!  He occasionally likes to pick up random things with his mouth like socks, trash, etc, but he lets us easily take things away from him with zero issue. I can stick my hand in his mouth. He doesn't have a possessive or mean bone in his body.  He can be a little dramatic sometimes like barking for attention or taking his neighborhood watch duty too seriously, but that’s honestly part of his charm. Meatball is just a giant sweet baby who wants a family to love him as much as he’ll love them. He has the funniest personality, the biggest heart, and so much love to give. If you want a goofy, cuddly best friend who will make you laugh every day and worship the ground you walk on, Meatball is your boy!  Click here to watch a video of Meatball.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. At just four months old, this sweet boy has already been through more than any puppy should — but you’d never know it by his spirit. Despite his rough start, he’s full of curiosity! He’s the kind of pup who wants to explore everything: every toy, every leaf, every corner of the yard. Adventure is his middle name, but when he’s done discovering the world, he’s happiest curled up close for snuggles.  He’s affectionate, playful, and incredibly resilient. All he really wants now is a safe home where he can grow up knowing love, comfort with plenty of treats along the way. â€‹  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Story
She's been through more than most — and she's still the sweetest girl in the room. Reyna is a Pocket Bully/Pitbull mix with a calm, loving presence that quietly catches you off guard. She's the kind of dog that looks tough and acts gentle, the kind that leans into you for pets and makes you wonder how anyone could ever overlook her. Right now, Reyna is in the middle of heartworm treatment — and we want to be completely upfront about that. She's past the medication phase, currently in her rest period, and getting close to her final injections. The finish line is in sight. And here's what matters most: TWRDA will cover the full cost of her heartworm treatment, even if she's adopted before it's complete. Her health is our responsibility, and we're seeing it through. Reyna does wonderfully with bigger dogs, kids, and adults — she has the potential to be an incredible family dog for the right home. She doesn't do well with small dogs or cats, so a home without them is where she'll truly thrive. She's spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped — ready to be claimed by the family she deserves. Reyna isn't asking for much. Just someone patient enough to let her finish healing and loving enough to be there when she does. Reyna is looking for a foster or forever home. If you can open your door to a girl who has already proven she's worth it — she'll spend the rest of her life proving it right back.

Story
Seven is a 3-year-old American Bulldog mix with a heart of gold and energy to match. This goofy, playful boy loves cuddles, attention, and making friends — and he means everyone. He loves all people, dogs, and cats, making him an easy fit for almost any home. Seven came to us as a stray, but he had a microchip — which told us everything we needed to know. His owner no longer wanted him, and he arrived in rough shape after spending a long time living outside. He had fly bites covering his body that we’re actively treating, but through it all he has stayed loving, gentle, and trusting of people. He didn’t give up on humans. Now we’re looking for humans who won’t give up on him. Seven deserves a warm home, a soft couch, someone to play with, and all the love he’s never had. Could that be you? He is neutered and ready for his forever home. DM us or visit rescuedetroitanimals.com to apply.
