Story
Meet Shari! She is a 1yr old spayed female Black Mouth Cur/Boxer mix that weighs 51lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 3/30. This sweet girl is a beauty! She appears to have been well cared for and even knows the sit and down commands and appears housetrained. She has such a happy go lucky disposition and a smile you just can`t resist! She loves to play with toys, throws them up in the air and catches them. Shari loves to be petted and loved on. She can be a bit mouthy when she is excited, but with redirection she does well. Having a secured yard to run and play in, will help her run out her energy. She can pull a bit on a leash, yet with plenty of play time she will do much better. Passing other dogs barking at her she didn`t show any interest, yet its best to ask the shelter for a dog test if you have other dogs in the home. Its clear to see how much love she has to give to her own loving family companions. You just can`t go wrong with such a loving girl!

Story
Gracie is a sweet 10-year-old mixed breed who is looking for a new forever home filled with love, patience, and comfort. She originally belonged to my husband, who passed away from lung cancer in December. Since then, I’ve done her best to care for her, but due to a recent move into a one-bedroom apartment and mobility issues with my knee, I’m no longer able to give Gracie the life she deserves.Gracie is a gentle, loyal companion who thrives in a calm environment. She would do especially well with someone who enjoys a slower pace of life—whether that’s relaxing at home, short walks, or just having a sweet dog by your side. She has years of love left to give and deserves a home where she can feel safe, comfortable, and cared for.We are trying everything we can to avoid taking her to a shelter, as we want to make sure she finds a home where she’ll truly be cherished.PS, she loves loves loves belly scratches.

Story
We found Ralph abandoned on the side of the road in 2023 and took him in, and he’s been part of our family ever since. From the start, he got along well with our two dogs (aside from our small dachshund occasionally giving him a hard time!) and settled in quickly. Ralph is a very energetic, affectionate dog who loves to play, go on walks, and snuggle. He’s about 3 years and 9 months old, and we estimate his birthday to be around June 2022. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Ralph would do best in a home that can match his energy level and give him plenty of opportunities for exercise and play. Ideally, he would either be the only dog in the home or live with other large, active dogs who can keep up with him and help him burn off his energy. He can be reactive on walks—when he sees other dogs or people, he may bark and pull on the leash—so he would benefit from an experienced owner who is comfortable continuing his training and helping him feel more at ease.

Story
Meet the gentle, loving Shelby. She is between 2-3 years old, weighing 64 lbs. boxer mix with a soft fawn coat. Shelby was rescued under a church along with her five babies. Shelby is very strong, friendly, and discerning. Shelby loves playing with other dogs, attending dog parks and loves walks, except when it's raining and thundering as she gets anxiety. She has not been around cats and currently resides with her three pups and a Lab. Shelby is a very bright dog! As much as she loves playtime with others, she loves relaxing, cuddling, kisses and belly rubs. She loves riding in the car and taking trips. An ideal home for Shelby would be one that is safe and comfortable where she will receive plenty of love, and affection. Shelby is crate trained with no issues sleeping in one. However, she does not potty inside, as she will bark to inform you when she needs to go. Shelby has received the following vaccinations: Rabies, Bordetella, One round of DHPP. She is microchipped and will be spayed 06/17/2025. Reason for rehoming: Shelby is currently under temporary care by her rescue family who are unable to keep her permanently. This devoting and caring dog is deserving of the perfect furever home. Could it be with you? Story
Meet the strong, mighty loving pup, Shasta. She turned 1 year old in February, weighs 69 lbs., and is a Boxer mix with a unique brindle coat. Shasta was rescued under a church with her five siblings and her mother at just a few weeks old. Shasta is a very powerful and bossy pup who still plays well with her siblings. Shasta loves playing with other dogs, showing them love and affection. She has not been around cats. She currently resides with her mother, two siblings and a Lab. Shasta is a very clever pup! She enjoys jogs, and playing catch. She also loves good car rides and the great outdoors. An ideal home for Shasta would be one that is safe and comfortable where she will receive plenty of love, affection and training. Because she is a pup, would love to put her in an environment with a family that has children, if possible, but not a requirement. Shasta is partially crate trained with no issues sleeping or playing in one. However, she does not potty inside, as she will bark to inform you when she needs to go. Shasta will need continued training on a leash and basic commands. Shasta has received the following vaccinations: Rabies, Bordetella, DHPP. She is microchipped and spayed. Reason for rehoming: Shasta is currently under temporary care by her rescue family who are unable to keep her permanently. This super affectionate pup is deserving of the perfect furever home. Story
Meet Ida May! She’s a 4-year-old spayed female Terrier-Pitbull mix weighing 46 lbs. She arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/26 as a stray. This beautiful girl has an outgoing, bubbly personality and loves spending time in the play yard, stretching her legs and doing plenty of zoomies. Once she’s burned off some energy, she enjoys sitting close for ear rubs. She walks well on a leash, though she can get a bit excited and pull at times. She knows the sit command and takes treats gently. When she saw another dog pass by, she ran along the fence wanting to play. If there’s another dog in the home, the shelter requests a dog test. Ida May has a sweet, loving nature and dreams of finding a forever family with a secure yard where she can run and play, then come inside to her toys and bed for long, cozy snoozes near her loved ones.

Story
Meet Annie! She is a 3yr old spayed female American Pitbull mix that weighs 40lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on as a stray 8/26/2025. She was adopted for one day but returned due to her very active playful manner. Yes, its true she is a spitfire! She loves to chase toys, doing zoomies in the play yard, and can be a bit mouthy with excitement. Once she runs out her energy she will sit right next you on the bench to be petted and will shower you with kisses. She does love treats but does not always take them gently so she will need additional training. She would do best with a person with an active lifestyle that can dedicate time to Annie to help her be the best pup she can be. She always has a big smile on her face and her tail wags non-stop. You can tell she wants to be your one and only pup in the home. With her energy level it maybe best. Please discuss with the shelter staff if you have another dog in the home so a dog test can be arranged. This super friendly lovebug can’t wait to find her own loving home. Can you please provide her with this?

Story
Collin is a soft tawny colored 2 year-old 47 pound American terrier pit that was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter 3/3 as a stray. He spent considerable time casually strolling around the yard investigating. He also did his business as soon as he got out of the yard so he wants to keep his kennel clean. I found him adventuresome, curious, gentle, well mannered, and very sweet. I noticed that it didn’t appear like he’s had much socialization. It’s not that he wasn’t sweet. He just appeared to prefer wandering on his own. He did come when I called him. He let me pet him briefly. Look into his eyes and you can see that what he’s missing is love. He walked on the leash without pulling.
