Have you ever met a person who just exudes joy at all times? Well FREYA is the dog version of that human. She is happiness personified. Being with her, you can’t help but feel her bliss and smile. She herself always has a smile on her face and loves to soak up attention from everyone she meets. Whether she’s outside playing or inside lounging on the couch, she loves to be where the people are. She’s doing wonderful in her current foster home with her two doggy foster brothers, a 95 lb cane corso mix and a 75 lb lab. She loves to cuddle with them as well as play with them in the backyard. She also has a cat foster brother who she gets along great with and even hangs out with him on the bed when he’s in the mood for cuddles. FREYA also loves to go on car rides and just take everything in. She would love to be your sidekick for every adventure that comes your way. She likes to talk to you and let you know what she’s thinking! Her little “ooowoo’s” are absolutely precious! She tends to talk to strangers as well , but it’s just her saying “Hello!”. She is crate trained and is used to being in her crate while her foster parent is gone. She is truly a one of a kind with a heart of gold. She’s an affectionate, fun loving, loyal girl just waiting for her new forever family to love. Her $540 adoption fee covers her interstate health certificate and the cost of transport to the midwest. For an adoption application on FREYA click here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam4.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Story
This is Thor, he is around 3 years old, and he has 3 legs. I rescued him from the Humane Society about 1.5 years ago with my ex boyfriend. Unfortunately, our situation has changed and I need a new home for this guy. He is a sweetheart with a big head and big heart. Thor is the biggest snuggle bug ever, and loves to go on long walks. He always wants to be cuddled up next to you under the blanket and will be the best companion! Thor was found tied to a tree with a broken leg, he was brought into a kill shelter and that shelter placed him on a euthanasia list. The Humane Society picked him up and performed the surgery to amputate his leg and give him a long life!

Story
Niyha is a 2 year old pit mix who acts more like the lab and cattle dog found in her. She is around 60 pounds and is completely house broken and knows all of her basic commands. Niyha has been through two different training companies and went to swim lessons. She is an excellent walker (we use a harness) and protector of those she loves. Niyha LOVES to be outside and needs the freedom to roam and run. She will be outside in rain, snow, cold or heat. She is very prey driven and would do best in a home with a lot of land (even a farm). There are no behavior issues with her indoors, other than her trying to get outdoors. She is the smartest dog I have ever come across. Niyha is very agile and is able to jump over our 6 ft fence. She also has learned to open the front window and jump through the screen. She is a sweet but free spirit. I will not adopt her to just anyone, I do not want to get rid of my baby girl, but for her safety, I need to rehome her.

Meet Theodore Winston, "Theo" for short who came to Canine Cupids from Chicago where he was found wandering the streets. Theo was emaciated, scared and spent two months in the shelter where he became a volunteer favorite because of his sweet nature and handsome looks. Theo loves to play with tennis balls and enjoys the company of other dogs. He was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is on weekly injections to help ease the pain. Theo needs to take it easy when he is playing, and walks should be not very long. Theo is a lover of sunbathing on his foster mom's patio. With his strong wiggly tail, he would not be suitable in a home with small children. If you are interested in Theo please fill out an application today!

Story
Say hello to Davey, the smartest dog you will ever meet! Davey is a 3 yr old mix of big ears, tail wags, and smiles. He had a rough start to his little life but it has not broken his spirit. His happy smile will lift your spirits on the dreariest of days. Found on the streets of Chicago, Davey hasn't had consistency in his life until now. So, as amazing as he is (and he truly is) Davey still needs work on some training to learn to not get overly excited when seeing new dogs and alarm barking at strange noises. His foster home is working with a behaviorist and Davey has made amazingly fast progress! We expect him to live up to his full potential. This 45 lb bundle of sillies is searching for an active household to enjoy running, hiking, and agility with and come home to quiet snuggles on the couch. Davey's favorite toy is every toy but especially the thesaurus. He is intelligent, inquisitive, curious, adventurous, brilliant, agile, spry, nimble, fascinated, eager, enthusiastic, voracious for knowledge (and treats!) Davey loves any and all treats and with his love of playing, hiking, and agility he needs all the snacks. When we say Davey is smart, you wonder, how smart is he?!? Well he isn't a rocket scientist but he learns just about anything! He knows Sit, Stay, Paw, Other Paw, Down, Wait, Touch, Up, Off and is crate trained and bell-trained for potty time. Davey needs a family to stimulate his exceptional little brain. Like a genius kid who will act up if they are bored in school; Davey will always find a way to entertain himself. But, with a nice long walk or run in the morning, a doggo pal to wrestle with, and a bone to chew on during the day, Davey is a well- behaved happy boy. Davey loves to romp and play with other dogs after a slow introduction to get comfortable. He runs and wrestles and tugs with boundless energy. He will do best in a home with a confident, playful, medium energy dog who wants to play but also cuddle. Davey has not lived with cats but is good with children of all ages Adopt this sweet silly smart boy today. Davey is in need of a foster home. If interested, please reach out to www.caninecupids.org/adopt. You’ll love all the cuddles - guaranteed

Story
Rosemary (Rosie) has a heart bigger than her head – an impressive feat for a blocky-headed dog. She leans her whole body into cuddles and will bring her toys right to your hand, wiggling in excitement to play with you. She can also read your energy and knows when to self-entertain if you’re not in the mood to play. She is moderate energy – she loves to run and play, but also tires out quickly, so no need to worry about multiple-hour walks. As long as she can get her energy out, Rosie would likely be fine with kids who are old enough to respect her boundaries and not get knocked over by zoomies. She is fully potty trained, and tolerates her crate but is left free-roaming at her foster home with no issues. Despite being a sweet and loving dog, the world can be a scary place for Rosie – full of sudden movements and unfamiliar places. People are her anchor – from friendly strangers she happily greets at a bar to the full trust she builds with her humans, everything seems a little bit better when she has people to show her she’s safe. The biggest part of keeping Rosie safe is regulating her interactions with other dogs. She has had several negative altercations with dogs in the past, and her continuing fear of dogs manifests itself as reactivity. She is muzzle trained for her own safety, and needs someone who can handle how hard a 50lb dog can pull on walks and help her keep her distance from other dogs who may be out. Because of this fear, Rosie would be easiest as an only pet. However, she has happily lived with another dog in the past, and with lots of time, commitment, and patience, she could potentially be integrated with another dog in the future. The biggest factor would be humans who respect and enforce her boundaries and are committed to setting her up for success. Rosie has not been tested with cats or other smaller animals, but would likely have similar needs – slow integration, trust that her boundaries will be respected, and the ability for both her and the other animal to get space from each other if needed. Rosie has a lot of love to give, and is ready to build her foundation with her forever home. Could that be you?

Bricks was a puppy that my son's father and I bought together. Years later, I left him and moved back to Wisconsin from Florida. My son's father passed away in April 2024. Since no one in Florida could take them in we went to Florida to rescue Bricks and his partner KC. We drove them back to Wisconsin where we hoped they would get along with 3 other dogs and 2 cats. They DON'T get along with cats. We live with my parents so this decision is not up to me. I need to find a good home for both of the dogs. They are great with kids and loyal and loving.

Story
Good ole Rufus Thomas. Rufus may have been a victim of dumping this guy was chipped but no one ever stepped up to claim him. Maybe because he was heartworm positive. This guy has come through his treatment with flying colors and is now ready for his forever family. One that won’s let him down. He has a MAJOR LOVE for humans. Rufus is up to date on shots and flea/tick preventives and he is neutered. He has so much love to give his happiness can light up a room! Rufus does great with other dogs and would love a playmate to match his energy. The foster’s cats walk right by him without a second thought so he must not put off any aggressive energy. He has been in his foster home for over three months while going through hw treatment and is around his foster’s grandchildren and greatgrandchildren (three year old) regularly. Rufus is approximately 2 years old. Here is a list of his pros: • Update to date with shots • Neutered • House trained. • Loves other dogs. • Great around kids Our transport heads to the north east every week. RescueVet transport goes all the way up to Rhode Island, delivering fur friends to their forever homes. Story
·Intake Reason: Surrendered owner passed away; Adopted for 1 month & returned due to aggression towards a friend's dog·Weight: 65 lbs.WCHS has observed that Cocoa loves people very much but can sometimes be possessive of her human. What does that mean? It means Cocoa would do best in a single person's home where she can have her person all to herself. When visitors arrive, maintaining Cocoa's best behavior can be easily managed. WCHS will include a free consultation to help learn this management!Known with:·Cats: lived with a 15 yr old neutered male·Dogs: Previously lived with 5 yr old neutered male APBTx and plays in WCHS playgroups well; Would do best as the only dog in the home.·Kids: Unknown·Personality: AffectionateGreetings, my name is Cocoa and I am a friend to all. I had a lovely life with a person for a couple of years where I lived with my good buddy, Ranger, and even a senior kitty-cat. Unfortunately, my person passed away so the whole gang came to WCHS to search for a new home. I used to have a great time playing with Ranger but he recently found his new forever home; I adore him so I am very happy for him. I also love to go on walks and explore the fabulous world around us. I do need a little practice with polite leash walking because I get so happy and excited that I pull a bit. When it comes to manners, I was so polite and respectful of my person's things that I was allowed to roam freely about the house when I was alone. Although I had a comfy pet bed in my previous home, I had the opportunity to sleep with my human in their bed and that was grand. I am an affectionate lovebug so cuddling all night long was quite a treat. In my previous home I knew to go to the door and whine a bit to ask to go outside. When I get to my new home, we will need to figure out each other's signals and routines; until then I will need plenty of opportunities to go outside to use the facilities. I have been described as friendly, playful, quiet and gentle; I am a big fan of car rides and enjoy a rousing game of fetch. I am a wiggle-butt with loads of love to give and I promise to be loyal to you forever. Stop by and ask to meet Cocoa, I think we will have a magnificent life together.#1

Story
My name is Vinnie and I’m 70 pounds of pure love. I love snuggling my foster parents and mom says I’m a bed hog, whatever that is! My favorite activity is going for car rides; I'm an excellent co-pilot and give great directions to the treat store. Since I'm only 4 yrs old, I would love someone who would commit to continuing with my training. I'm an A+ student but since I get very excited around other dogs, I would prefer to be the only dog in the house and have all the lovin's for myself. I know sit, ask to go out for potties, and am working on my leash manners, but I am still fresh out of the shelter, so this is all new to me. My foster mom says it's probably best if I don't live with kiddos under the age of 12 or kitties because I don't know my own size. I dont get it, 70lbs is a perfect size lap dog! Most importantly, I need a forever family to hold my big, squishy face and get lots of kisses. I sure hope I can find you guys soon. XOXO Vinnie
