She’s doing wonderful in her current foster home with her two doggy foster brothers, a 95 lb cane corso mix and a 75 lb lab. She loves to cuddle with them as well as play with them in the backyard. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Meet Theodore Winston, "Theo" for short who came to Canine Cupids from Chicago where he was found wandering the streets. Theo was emaciated, scared and spent two months in the shelter where he became a volunteer favorite because of his sweet nature and handsome looks. Theo loves to play with tennis balls and enjoys the company of other dogs. He was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is on weekly injections to help ease the pain. Theo needs to take it easy when he is playing, and walks should be not very long. Theo is a lover of sunbathing on his foster mom's patio. With his strong wiggly tail, he would not be suitable in a home with small children. If you are interested in Theo please fill out an application today!

Story
Say hello to Davey, the smartest dog you will ever meet! Davey is a 3 yr old mix of big ears, tail wags, and smiles. He had a rough start to his little life but it has not broken his spirit. His happy smile will lift your spirits on the dreariest of days. Found on the streets of Chicago, Davey hasn't had consistency in his life until now. So, as amazing as he is (and he truly is) Davey still needs work on some training to learn to not get overly excited when seeing new dogs and alarm barking at strange noises. His foster home is working with a behaviorist and Davey has made amazingly fast progress! We expect him to live up to his full potential. This 45 lb bundle of sillies is searching for an active household to enjoy running, hiking, and agility with and come home to quiet snuggles on the couch. Davey's favorite toy is every toy but especially the thesaurus. He is intelligent, inquisitive, curious, adventurous, brilliant, agile, spry, nimble, fascinated, eager, enthusiastic, voracious for knowledge (and treats!) Davey loves any and all treats and with his love of playing, hiking, and agility he needs all the snacks. When we say Davey is smart, you wonder, how smart is he?!? Well he isn't a rocket scientist but he learns just about anything! He knows Sit, Stay, Paw, Other Paw, Down, Wait, Touch, Up, Off and is crate trained and bell-trained for potty time. Davey needs a family to stimulate his exceptional little brain. LIke a genius kid who will act up if they are bored in school; Davey will always find a way to entertain himself. But, with a nice long walk or run in the morning, a doggo pal to wrestle with, and a bone to chew on during the day, Davey is a well- behaved happy boy. Davey loves to romp and play with other dogs after a slow introduction to get comfortable. He runs and wrestles and tugs with boundless energy. He will do best in a home with a confident, playful, medium energy dog who wants to play but also cuddle. Davey has not lived with cats but is good with children of all ages Adopt this sweet silly smart boy today. Davey is in need of a foster home. If interested, please reach out to Caninecupids.org. You’ll love all the cuddles - guaranteed

Story
Rosemary aka Rosie does everything with her full heart. She will fully love you, fully play with you, fully snuggle you, whatever you're up for she's all in. Rosie would do best as a only fur baby or with other pups that are her size (~50 lb) or larger. She is not a fan of smaller animals, at all. There has been skirmish between her and a smaller pup that included a bite. With her people, Rosie is nothing but love. Slow and steady is part of Rosie's motto. Introductions to fur or human friends are best when they are done slowly and give her time and space to feel comfortable. Once she is comfortable with someone it’s loving time. She's estimated to be about 6 years old, so she's outgrown the puppy antics, but she still loves a good game of fetch or tug, and a nice walk is always fun. She's great at matching her people's energy, so if you want to play she'll play, but if you want some space she can self-entertain with a bone before coming over to snuggle. She is potty trained and can be left to roam when you're not home. Rosie can be vocal when she plays, and can sometimes jump or be mouthy when she's excited - she redirects easily, but she would do best in a home without young children. She would love a fenced in yard, but can also get her energy out with some playing indoors and a nice walk for stimulation. Rosie's main ask is for a home that will keep her safe, which includes setting her up for success and keeping her out of stressful or uncontrolled situations. She's looking for Forever - could that be you?

·Intake Reason: Stray·Weight: 65 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Unknown ·Dogs: Can be selective; Likely best with females ·Kids: Unknown ·Personality: IntelligentHi there, my name is Smith; I came into WCHS as a stray, so Smith may be an alias. I have an adventurous spirit and would love to accompany you on long hikes and explore; I happen to be the owner of a spectacular schnoz. I am an active boy who will need plenty of exercise, both physical and mental. I am a tad reactive when I am on a leash or otherwise contained and I see another dog because I feel vulnerable. When I go on walks with volunteers, I have been practicing staying calm and focusing on my person rather than any passing dog. I try and follow the cues I am given like ‘sit' or play the find-it game and get caught up in searching for tasty morsels tossed onto the ground. I do much better when I am off-leash and have been playing with other pooches in some playgroups at the shelter. It is much better for me to have slow and proper introductions to other dogs so I do not think I would like the chaos of a dog park. The folks at WCHS could give you some great tips about the type of polite dog that could be my friend and how to introduce us. I thoroughly enjoy playing with toys and running around with humans. I invented a game called chase-me-chase-me where I run after a toy you toss and then we both run around and chase and jump and play. I am polite with people and allow you to take the toy back and toss it again to continue the game; it is a hoot. I am an affectionate boy and really enjoy snuggles, soft pats and tender scratches; spending time with my peeps is one of my favorite activities. I think I am quite handsome and promise to be a loyal companion forever. I would love to train with you using patient and positive techniques to learn obedience and exquisite manners so I am welcome anywhere we go; it would be great to be your fun-loving sidekick. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; we can get to know each other is a room or play in the courtyard and have a wonderful time together.#2

·Intake Reason: Surrendered owner passed away·Weight: 65 lbs.Known with:·Cats: lived with a 15 yr old neutered male·Dogs: Previously lived with 5 yr old neutered male APBTx and plays in WCHS playgroups well·Kids: Unknown·Personality: AffectionateGreetings, my name is Cocoa and I am a friend to all. I had a lovely life with a person for a couple of years where I lived with my good buddy, Ranger, and even a senior kitty-cat. Unfortunately, my person passed away so the whole gang came to WCHS to search for a new home. I used to have a great time playing with Ranger but he recently found his new forever home; I adore him so I am very happy for him. You might notice from my photo that I have something called a cherry-eye and I have been told that the nice folks at the shelter have plans to take care of it; it will be great to have my vision improve. My only complaint since coming to WCHS is they wanted me to get on a scale; as an enchanting and sophisticated young lady, getting weighed is not my favorite activity. I am an active gals and my eye issue does not slow me down a bit; I still enjoy a romp with other pups in the playgroups. I also love to go on walks and explore the fabulous world around us. I do need a little practice with polite leash walking because I get so happy and excited that I pull a bit. When it comes to manners, I was so polite and respectful of my person's things that I was allowed to roam freely about the house when I was alone. Although I had a comfy pet bed in my previous home, I had the opportunity to sleep with my human in their bed and that was grand. I am an affectionate lovebug so cuddling all night long was quite a treat. In my previous home I knew to go to the door and whine a bit to ask to go outside. When I get to my new home, we will need to figure out each other's signals and routines; until then I will need plenty of opportunities to go outside to use the facilities. I have been described as friendly, playful, quiet and gentle; I am a big fan of car rides and enjoy a rousing game of fetch. I am a wiggle-butt with loads of love to give and I promise to be loyal to you forever. Stop by and ask to meet Cocoa, I think we will have a magnificent life together.#1

**Ziba is available for meet and greets by appointment only! Please call WCHS to set up an appointment so our dog trainer can introduce her to you and demonstrate the sign language she is learning.**· Intake Reason: surrendered, owner was unable to care forKnown with:· Cats: lived with 2 cats, and liked to play with them· Dogs: went to dog parks previously, does okay in WCHS playgroups· Kids: exposed to various ages· Personality: likes to jump up and tends to pull on leash, likes tennis balls and playing fetchGreetings, my name is Ziba and I am 40-pounds of special. My name means ‘beautiful' and I think that is very fitting because I am enchanting. My world is very quiet because I am deaf. Since I cannot hear commands, people have been using hand signals to communicate with me; I know the signal for ‘sit' and ‘good girl'. Because I could not hear you calling after me, I will be counting on you to keep me safe and out of trouble. I know that some folks who have a deaf pooch in the family use a vibration collar (no shock, please) to let the dog know you want their attention. I also appreciate it when humans do not sneak up on me or surprise me. In my previous home I had the luxury of roaming about freely when I was alone and also got to share my person's bed at night; that was fabulous. When I needed to go outside, I would sit by the door. When I first come into my new home it would be wise to watch me carefully and also give me plenty of opportunities to get outside to use the facilities. I must confess I am still working on becoming 100% when it comes to house-training. Lots of yummy treats and praise should help me develop that skill. I am a tolerant gal but I have a tendency to get overstimulated, so it would be great if we could work on some settle exercises. I am a smart lass and think it is important to keep my brain busy and engaged so I have been happy with all the enrichment I get at the shelter. I do enjoy romping with other dogs and am sort of a rough player but prefer not to share my toys with them; a girl has got to draw the line somewhere. I enjoy car rides and would love to be your sidekick as we go on many adventures together. I am friendly and outgoing but do prefer a slow and polite introduction to folks I do not know. Give me a few minutes and a couple tasty tidbits and soon we will be BFFs. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; I think it is lovely to increase my circle of friends and we could have a magnificent life together.#2

Story
Yahoo, my name is Dino and I am a fun-loving guy who is looking for a home. I was a stray at MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission) when I learned of a transport heading to WCHS. I had heard that folks in Washington County are super nice so I figured that would be a grand place to find a family. So far, all the people I have met have been wonderful so I know everything I had heard is true. Although I may fill out a bit, I weigh about 38 pounds now so I should be a great size for any family. I am friendly, affectionate and quite handsome, if I do say so myself. I am an active boy so I will need plenty of exercise every day to keep me happy and healthy. I am also quite smart and enjoy keeping my brain busy so it would be fabulous to take some classes and develop new skills. We could participate in canine sports like agility or get involved in nose work or rally. I happen to be the owner of a really great nose so playing sniffing games is always high on my list; perhaps I could use a foraging mat at mealtime or to search for yummy treats as part of enrichment. Since I am a young lad, I still have many things to discover and places to explore; I am really looking forward to experiencing all sorts of new places, people and things with you. If you are looking for a cheerful, playful and outgoing boy you will be pleased to know that your search is over because you have discovered me. I hope you stop by to meet me in person because I love to meet new humans and I am certain we will have a good time and loads of fun together.#1

Tucker has a big heart and is a protector at his core. Tucker loves to play...but plays rough! Therefore, we recommend a home without kids or cats. He can be hot and cold with other dogs, so it's probably best he be the solo dog also. Tucker absolutely adores women and would love the opportunity to be her knight in shining armor. If you're looking to give this guy a second chance, he's waiting for you and the chance to love again! As great as Tucker is he comes with some work needing to be done. Tucker has collar reactiveness and can guard his kennel. Mainly you are not allowed to walk in the kennel at all when he is in there. An experienced dog owner that has dealt with difficult dogs would be best for him. Tucker was adopted as a puppy and lived with a family for over a year prior to coming back to the shelter. He will need status reduction in the home - no couches, bed...more structure to help him blossom. Ask about him today

Hi I'm Joey, I'm sure Jesse talked about me already, but I'm the handsome one! I was a stray with 3 other dogs in Whitewater and then we came to Lakeland. I'm a bigger boy who does walk pretty well on a leash and more or less mind my own business. I'd prefer a home without other dogs so I can soak up all the attention myself.

Story
Peppermint Patty is a 2 year old mixed breed who couldn’t possibly be sweeter. She came to Wisconsin in December filled to the brim with puppies & gave birth to eight perfect Peanuts in her foster home in January. After some much-needed relaxation & rest from being the best mama, she is ready to find her family! She’s about 40lb, is crate trained, & is doing very well with potty training when kept on a schedule. Peppermint is very food-motivated & eager to please, so continued training should be a breeze. She gets along great with other dogs & kids. Cats are unknown, but it’s assumed she’ll do just fine.Get your application in to learn more about her!DATCP#483538

Story
My name is Vinnie and I’m 70 pounds of pure love. I love snuggling my foster parents and mom says I’m a bed hog, whatever that is! My favorite activity is going for car rides; I'm an excellent co-pilot and give great directions to the treat store. Since I'm only 4 yrs old, I would love someone who would commit to continuing with my training. I'm an A+ student but since I get very excited around other dogs, I would prefer to be the only dog in the house and have all the lovin's for myself. I know sit, ask to go out for potties, and am working on my leash manners, but I am still fresh out of the shelter, so this is all new to me. My foster mom says it's probably best if I don't live with kiddos under the age of 12 or kitties because I don't know my own size. I dont get it, 70lbs is a perfect size lap dog! Most importantly, I need a forever family to hold my big, squishy face and get lots of kisses. I sure hope I can find you guys soon. XOXO Vinnie
