1.5 years old (estimated) 57 lbs. Neutered male Gentle, loving, well-mannered Gets along well with other dogs Looking for a home with kids over 6 years With my sweet and sensitive nature, I've won the hearts of everyone I've met, both human and canine alike. I'm longing for a big, loving family to call my own, where I can shower them with endless love and affection. However, I am a little timid around the noise and activity of young kids, so I'd do best in a home with children over 6 years old. I've already mastered some tricks like "sit" and "paw," and I'm potty trained and walk great on a leash, so you can count on me to be a good boy wherever we go. I'm a big fan of toys, but nothing compares to my beloved blue dino—I carry it with me everywhere as my trusty sidekick! And let's not forget about cuddle time—I'm a total cuddle bug who adores giving and receiving kisses. Just ask the staff—they'll tell you I'm the "best dog ever" and "the sweetest boy you'll ever meet." So, if you're ready to hit the jackpot with a furry companion who will fill your days with joy and love, then look no further, because I'm your guy! The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.April 24, 2024, 11:18 pm

Story
2 years old (estimated) 39 lbs. Spayed female Outgoing, energetic, and playful Loves other dogs When I first showed up as a stray at an overcrowded Louisiana shelter I was extremely emaciated, weighing only 19 lbs.! Thanks to the amazing people who nursed me back to health, I'm now at a healthy weight and bursting with energy. I've made plenty of doggy pals during my time in foster care and at the shelter—I'm just a social butterfly who loves making new friends, both human and canine! I've got loads of energy and adore running and playing with toys, especially stuffed ones. You'll often find me proudly carrying my "babies" around, ready for our next adventure together! Plus, I'm a quick learner and super food motivated, so teaching me new skills and tricks will be a breeze. I've already mastered "sit" and I'm fully potty trained, so you can count on me to be a well-behaved companion. If you're searching for a loyal and fun-loving furry friend who's ready to bring joy and excitement into your life, then look no further, because I'm your girl! Story
·Intake Reason: Stray·Weight: 65 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Unknown ·Dogs: Can be selective; Likely best with females ·Kids: Unknown ·Personality: IntelligentHi there, my name is Smith; I came into WCHS as a stray, so Smith may be an alias. I have an adventurous spirit and would love to accompany you on long hikes and explore; I happen to be the owner of a spectacular schnoz. I am an active boy who will need plenty of exercise, both physical and mental. I am a tad reactive when I am on a leash or otherwise contained and I see another dog because I feel vulnerable. When I go on walks with volunteers, I have been practicing staying calm and focusing on my person rather than any passing dog. I try and follow the cues I am given like ‘sit' or play the find-it game and get caught up in searching for tasty morsels tossed onto the ground. I do much better when I am off-leash and have been playing with other pooches in some playgroups at the shelter. It is much better for me to have slow and proper introductions to other dogs so I do not think I would like the chaos of a dog park. The folks at WCHS could give you some great tips about the type of polite dog that could be my friend and how to introduce us. I thoroughly enjoy playing with toys and running around with humans. I invented a game called chase-me-chase-me where I run after a toy you toss and then we both run around and chase and jump and play. I am polite with people and allow you to take the toy back and toss it again to continue the game; it is a hoot. I am an affectionate boy and really enjoy snuggles, soft pats and tender scratches; spending time with my peeps is one of my favorite activities. I think I am quite handsome and promise to be a loyal companion forever. I would love to train with you using patient and positive techniques to learn obedience and exquisite manners so I am welcome anywhere we go; it would be great to be your fun-loving sidekick. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; we can get to know each other is a room or play in the courtyard and have a wonderful time together.#2

Story
·Intake Reason: Surrendered owner passed away·Weight: 65 lbs.Known with:·Cats: lived with a 15 yr old neutered male·Dogs: Previously lived with 5 yr old neutered male APBTx and plays in WCHS playgroups well·Kids: Unknown·Personality: AffectionateGreetings, my name is Cocoa and I am a friend to all. I had a lovely life with a person for a couple of years where I lived with my good buddy, Ranger, and even a senior kitty-cat. Unfortunately, my person passed away so the whole gang came to WCHS to search for a new home. I used to have a great time playing with Ranger but he recently found his new forever home; I adore him so I am very happy for him. You might notice from my photo that I have something called a cherry-eye and I have been told that the nice folks at the shelter have plans to take care of it; it will be great to have my vision improve. My only complaint since coming to WCHS is they wanted me to get on a scale; as an enchanting and sophisticated young lady, getting weighed is not my favorite activity. I am an active gals and my eye issue does not slow me down a bit; I still enjoy a romp with other pups in the playgroups. I also love to go on walks and explore the fabulous world around us. I do need a little practice with polite leash walking because I get so happy and excited that I pull a bit. When it comes to manners, I was so polite and respectful of my person's things that I was allowed to roam freely about the house when I was alone. Although I had a comfy pet bed in my previous home, I had the opportunity to sleep with my human in their bed and that was grand. I am an affectionate lovebug so cuddling all night long was quite a treat. In my previous home I knew to go to the door and whine a bit to ask to go outside. When I get to my new home, we will need to figure out each other's signals and routines; until then I will need plenty of opportunities to go outside to use the facilities. I have been described as friendly, playful, quiet and gentle; I am a big fan of car rides and enjoy a rousing game of fetch. I am a wiggle-butt with loads of love to give and I promise to be loyal to you forever. Stop by and ask to meet Cocoa, I think we will have a magnificent life together.#1

**Ziba is available for meet and greets by appointment only! Please call WCHS to set up an appointment so our dog trainer can introduce her to you and demonstrate the sign language she is learning.**· Intake Reason: surrendered, owner was unable to care forKnown with:· Cats: lived with 2 cats, and liked to play with them· Dogs: went to dog parks previously, does okay in WCHS playgroups· Kids: exposed to various ages· Personality: likes to jump up and tends to pull on leash, likes tennis balls and playing fetchGreetings, my name is Ziba and I am 40-pounds of special. My name means ‘beautiful' and I think that is very fitting because I am enchanting. My world is very quiet because I am deaf. Since I cannot hear commands, people have been using hand signals to communicate with me; I know the signal for ‘sit' and ‘good girl'. Because I could not hear you calling after me, I will be counting on you to keep me safe and out of trouble. I know that some folks who have a deaf pooch in the family use a vibration collar (no shock, please) to let the dog know you want their attention. I also appreciate it when humans do not sneak up on me or surprise me. In my previous home I had the luxury of roaming about freely when I was alone and also got to share my person's bed at night; that was fabulous. When I needed to go outside, I would sit by the door. When I first come into my new home it would be wise to watch me carefully and also give me plenty of opportunities to get outside to use the facilities. I must confess I am still working on becoming 100% when it comes to house-training. Lots of yummy treats and praise should help me develop that skill. I am a tolerant gal but I have a tendency to get overstimulated, so it would be great if we could work on some settle exercises. I am a smart lass and think it is important to keep my brain busy and engaged so I have been happy with all the enrichment I get at the shelter. I do enjoy romping with other dogs and am sort of a rough player but prefer not to share my toys with them; a girl has got to draw the line somewhere. I enjoy car rides and would love to be your sidekick as we go on many adventures together. I am friendly and outgoing but do prefer a slow and polite introduction to folks I do not know. Give me a few minutes and a couple tasty tidbits and soon we will be BFFs. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; I think it is lovely to increase my circle of friends and we could have a magnificent life together.#2
